  • With any expandable / mechanical broadhead, penetration is always a good data point to examine. But, what about wound channel? In this video, we look at the "Wound Channel Ratio" to help determine which broadhead is good, better, and best. How well will these 6 broad heads perform when shot into carpet/cardboard covered ballistic gel?

    Reapers all day!! I love them . I’ve never had an issue with them. Wts and carnifour are both absolutely devastating.

    I killed two does with one shot with the megameat. 73 lbs 27.5" dl 420 grain arrow. Penetrates extremely well with my setup

    Tru glo titanium x broadheads are the most consistent flying and most durable broadhead I have hunted and killed many wall hangers with. Using high speed xbows over 430 fps. I can also say I have used all these broadheads at one time or another and all have had broken blades after pass thru. I am shooting a tenpoint nitro 505 shooting 505 grain arrow at 380 fps and the tru glo shines out to 60.

    I can tell you myself and a couple of my buddies started using the sevr the last couple years and we’ve had incredible results! All have locked open and love we can actually practice with them so we know exactly how they fly! All have locked opted and worked flawlessly! I will be using strictly them until I/we have them fail in some sort of way!

    I thought the megas were 2" not 1.25"?

    • @HuntDetail
      @HuntDetail  3 дні тому

      The blades are 1.25 inches. They advertise a 2 inch cut…which is true as a whole…but each blade is not 2 inches. What’s interesting is that several heads are advertising 2 inch cuts but it means different things to different manufacturers…this can be confusing to the consumer.

      @@HuntDetail Thank you . Good luck this season as well. I think I am going to order some sevr broadheads.

    How did the mega meat beat the dead meat? I purchased Dead meat for an Elk hunt this year thinking best bloodtrail, penetration and cutting diameter (3 blade) compared to all the heads you tested! Never shot the Mega or Deadmeat but have shot Grim Reaper, Rage, Killzone, slick trick viper tricks and many more with luck for Whitetails…. 62lb Bowtech solution 29.5 inch draw and Bowtech Carbon One 72 lb with 446 Grain Easton 6.5 Matrix 300 spine.

      It’s a great question because the deadmeat has a smaller cut diameter…one would think that the deadmeat would have greater penetration. But, the Megameat fully deployed and went 20 plus inches…very surprising.
      I will say that all of this is simply one data point. I would recommend using what you feel most confident in based on your own examination.
      Thanks for your feedback and support. Best of luck this season.

    Curious about the Grim Reaper. I’ve always been told they are designed to close after penetration. How did you confirm the one blade did not open during penetration?

    • @HuntDetail
      @HuntDetail  2 місяці тому

      The Grim Reaper had 1 blade still closed. It’s a forward opening head and 1 blade simply stayed shut. Still a solid head I’m sure.

      I thinknwhat he meant was they will sometimes close upon exit. It is not uncommon for you to find the head closed, although it fully opened while passing through. Are you sure it didn't close one after?

    • @HuntDetail
      @HuntDetail  Місяць тому +1

      I’m pretty sure that the one blade remained closed unfortunately.

    Shoot the SEVR 1.75 or 2.0 and you will never shoot another BROADHEAD! Blades are very sharp and more durable than anything tested!

    Your testing raises a question, how are you getting so much penetration? Every ballistics test on YT i have seen- no one gets that much penetration. Your arrows weigh more than the typical guys we see on YT. Generally the Gel creates alot of friction/stiction on the arrow and no one gets that much penetration. Not a knock on you or your test- just wondering what is different here..

    • @HuntDetail

      Good question. I’m shooting into a relatively small area of ballistic gel. And as a result, I’m shooting from about 10 yards. That’s likely the difference.
      If I were to stretch that out to 20 or 30 yards, I’d likely hit an edge or maybe miss completely…or have the arrows angle outside of the gel. That’s why I’m so close.
      I understand that most shots are longer than 10 yards. But, my objective is to evaluate these arrows against each other…whether that is 30 yards or 10 yards…doesn’t make a whole lot of difference.
      Thanks for the question and your support. Best of luck this season!

    Blades are thin on mega meat. They will bend and break. Havent seen blades break on sevr

      Yep. I’m shooting both this year…I look forward to see how the megameats perform.
