So basically she wants you to give her everything back for free - sorry but I see the 'I want it so you should give it to me' attitude all the time and I don't have much sympathy for it. The flag, personal photos, etc. are fine. Everything else, keep. And THANK YOU for warning people not to reveal their home base info to these folks. You could be robbed, assaulted. You just don't know.

Why is it we only think the worse. She clearly said she'd buy some of her stuff back. She must have had a nice life before she was evicted. You can tell from her stuff. Packed orderly, she valued her possessions. She love music and was creative and talented, maybe she was into theatre with all those costumes. She seemed like an interesting valuable person.
I have watched 100's of these storage unit videos and this one really bothered me. She was somebody worthwhiled. She was homeless for whatever reason, I couldnt imagine being homeless and now she lost her history and her memories. Nothing like being down on the ground and get kicked in the teeth. I say this only to remind you to be kind and don't loose you human connection. Think about it before you judge, what if it was your daughter. Wouldn't you want somebody to be kind to her. Why not you? Sorry for dumping on you.

The first unit I ever got I cried. The storage people would not give back personal items ect. I found out the man was in jail so in the paper work I found an obituary. Found out the half brother who is a pastor. I contacted his church and he was out of state. Got a call back from him and he said when his step dad and mom passed he did not get any of the photos. Well I saved them all for him. He and his wife would be back in our area in 2 weeks. I agreed. So during our yard sale his wife and him showed up and were so blessed to get the photos plus bought a couple things. He had his wife drive home because he was so excited to look at the pictures. 2 weeks later I get a thank you note from them that said That I will never know how much the pictures meant to him and his family and that maybe someday when his half brother gets his life together he will have something to give him. I would have never contacted them unless I felt it was ok. What a blessing it was to me. Also made a new friend. It just hurt to see all the pictures at the dumpsters on the ground. If I could have I would have picked them all up and tried to find the relatives. Well God Bless. I wish now I had the money to get his 2nd unit the guy had to save some more memories for this pastor.

I don't do the storage unit thing but I have fished personal photos out of the dumpster after an eviction and attempted to return them. Found a person whose number was there too and let them know. I held on to them for several years but no one wanted to come get them. I finally ended up putting them back in the same dumpster. Pictures of her little girl some of her just in diapers. So many reasons to get them out of the dumpster. It was sad to put them all back in. Also, a bit worrisome but what else could I do?

I think a lot of people don't realize that if you are homeless and an older woman which I believe she is by the age of her music and fabric items etc. that one doesn't have access to ebay and etsy or worthpoint.com. Wade had trouble bringing all that down. I can't imagine the daunting task and just physically getting back and forth. Some people have emotional ties to things from their past so emotional strength is in order. Apparently there was no one to help her.

Wade what I like about you is your ability to have compassion along with a business mind . And why I watch you ! I see a lot of myself in your adventures lol I love digging for treasure it’s like Christmas . But I’d like to show you another side , when I was a kid all through growing up , we moved for my fathers work and slot of times mom would pack us kids up to grandmas when he’d go over seas . So we’d have new house new things new toys things we loved . Then poof yard sales and storage . And mom would loose the unit and or put stuff in storage at grandmas town . It became a learned habit for her but for us kids it became heart break . We don’t have family pics of dads side of the family or things that was passed down to us and it hurt . Mom usually lost them because didn’t have the money to go back there . And probley why my home burning was such a tragic thing for me . After loosing all my life I finally had my home and things I collected for 40 yrs thhen gone to a fire . I applaud you for giving back photos and family mementos because you don’t have to but you do . One day something dear to you will be given to you . Karma . Believe it or not I’d say what means the most to someone would have no value . Picture your kid drew you ect

I'd say you're exactly right about the lady possibly typing her letter at a Library, Wade.
I've lived homeless myself, for the better part of the last 9 years, staying mostly @ Homeless shelters, & motels; and the Library is where most homeless folks do any typing they need to do.

She easily could have gone to a public library or a friends home to use their computer... Thanks for being a good person and giving her back some of the items she requested...Perhaps you can let her bid on some of her bigger items...No you are not obligated to do so but if she is willing to pay then I think you should consider it...Do it through a third party if that would be the safer option...A lot of times watching these videos or tv shows about people buying storage units I always wonder about the person who lost it especially if there is a lot of personal or expensive items...I don't think I could do it...This is not me saying the people that do are bad because many of them are great people and I understand its a business!

It’s a business, and I totally agree with your sentiments, and you went above and beyond, and I think that’s very very kind. She’s blessed that it was you that actually Responded and did that for her. I think that you know people can say what they want but it is a business and unfortunately she did not uphold her side of the agreement with that storage company, so unfortunately, that may happen, but I totally agree with you. If they contact the storage company, usually their pictures are saved for them without involving the buyer of the unit having to receive or provide contact back. The pictures can be left with the place like you said you did with her amount of possessions you gave back.

This morning a thought came to mind. A big deal is made about giving back a former owner's personal papers and photos or flag. What sacrifice do you make in that? What value are they to you? You root through them anyway so it may take you a few extra minutes to throw them in a separate pile than in a garbage pail. It should be an automatic thing for the person's identity safety. With a fear of bed bugs these days what value is there to a used mattress that's been in storage for years? Donate it from one homeless person to another? These things are of no value to you. So why make such a deal about something that ethically and morally should be done at no dollar cost to you?

I've watched other storage unit auction channel. It was an entire household, toys to furniture, xbox to music cds, but at the back of the unit was a black military style trunk, locked, and no key. In another box was books: on grieving children, surviving after loss, and how to secure Widow Benefits from the military... and the tone of the vid radically changed. Once they got into the trunk, they found the soldier's personel belongings shipped home with him, and the flag draped on his coffin.
The Storage Facility would not keep the military trunk to return to the family, so they did some online digging and called the soldier's mother... but they never filmed a follow up.
I agree with you, that it is not prudent to contact the previous owner of an abandoned locker; however, there are ways to return things and remain annonymous. There is always the mail, or even a messenger service. For an obvious soldier's belongings, you could contact the local VFW, and see if they would act as an intermediary to return the personal items.
I understand those would cost money, but let's be honest: you don't bid on a locker that won't be profitable. Sometimes, it's better to Pay It Forward, and fork out some shipping charges to return the personal memories.
With all that said: This unit was NOT just a home; this was a business and something radically drastic happened to loose all this stuff. Oh, there it is... the Star Trek Uniform and things just got Real.
THIS IS A COS PLAY PERSON'S LOCKER. THEY SPEND THOUSANDS ON COSTUMES FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO DRESS UP AND SHOW OFF AT CONVENTIONS. WHICH IS WHY SHE REQUESTED THE COSTUMES. And now I understand how she could loose the locker.

That was very nice of you with the lady that got evicted. The library is a place the homeless do go to looking for jobs and live in companion opportunities. Men construct ion that puts them up like when their is a disaster like in Kentucky with the hurricane or tornado that wiped it all out .

Just an observation, you were very nice to this lady. If this was me, I would have no idea how or where to sell my things. I have a couple of thousand yards of quality fabric, many records, antiques from Germany. I lived through the years that are now antique or vintage. No clue where to sell it all, certainly not in a hurrry!

    Every unit,has a story.
It is sad to see the units sold, and I am.so sad,for the previous owners
Unfortunately, There are hardship cases and I wish there was an organization that helped people, who aren't able to pay their fees.
Apparently it is hard to.pay storage fees ,if you are homeless
It is sad that people have no one to help them, but sometimes family and friends have helped to the limit.
It is still heart breaking, to see people lose their belongings.
I also do not like to see the units that are packed to the door and have a lot of useless items,or dirty things, but then again, every unit has a story.
This unit may have belonged to a theater, or wardrobe designer.

Omg I want *ALL THE YARN!* but mama comes first :P. I want all the fabric too! Fabric is NOT cheap, so that's why it sells well at yard sales. Plus they go out of print.
Also, she may be a costumer, which is like a cosplayer, but they go so much more into it. I make my own costumes, and when I wasn't bedridden, I would go to conventions two to four times a year, sometimes having a different one for each of the three-four days of the convention. Th fact that there is an xfiles shirt too, has me even more convinced this person is a costumer.
Oh shiiiit yeah, Groot? She's a con goer.

you can be homeless and still have a job. I know from experience because i was working 2 jobs and lost my home and had 2 of my children with me. i spent 2 years in and out of motels and my car. since 2017 i have been in my apartment for 2 years. I never gave up and was also blessed to not ever lose my storage unit . You do have a good heart and you will be blessed for that.

The soda ash is to set fiber reactive dyes, if you find the dyes the might be worth something, the bags of fiber are roving to spin into yarn, and the hemp box looks like it might be hand spun yarn or recycled sari silk yarn, which is probably $15+ a hank online
