So what happens if you don't change it for a long time, asking because, I looked on a 250 and sa under the engine it was leaking from it. It could be expensive to fix?
A clogged CCV filter will cause back pressure in the engine, and can cause oil to leak from other parts like the valve covers and such. The CCV is not too expensive and is not fun to replace because of the location. Sometimes the filter will actually split along the seam. If you’re looking at a used truck to buy just insure the maintenance was done properly and at the right intervals. If it’s leaking oil and the seller doesn’t want to pay to fix it then you might look for another one. Hope this helps.
@@WhatsinmygreygarageIf they wait too long to change this CCV, it leaks from other locations and saturates all under the oil pan.....my question, what other things need replacement or will a replacement of this ccv be the only thing I have to replace on this truck? I'm a mobile mechanic and trying to help my customer with her truck with this oil leak she has.
I had heard that. I want to change it because I didn’t know if or when it had been changed. It had some oil in it. I figured it’s better to be safe than sorry. That filter is a pain to replace, but that’s the fun of owning a 6.7!
So basically if it has the bolts on top of the box it is the old style, if it does not have the bolts on top of the box only the mounting style that he shows in the video it is the new style and I kind of don't need to worry about it unless it's leaking?
@@JCarruth130 sorry for the late reply, I wasn’t sure if it had ever been changed. The thought was to make sure it was not going to leak or push oil out somewhere else. I’d seen that assembly causing issues. Plus they say it’s not necessary to replace, but the oil vapor will turn to oil and will get full. I’m very skeptical when something is said to be not necessary to replace! Good luck with your truck
It might take a few seconds to start since the fuel filter will be disconnected. I once you turn the key and let the fuel pumps do there thing, it will fire right off. Good luck
@@weights_and_plates I have no idea! That thing is a real pain. I tried to remove it the way it was supposed to and just couldn’t do it. The old pry bar trick works pretty well. I hate doing that because it can damage something else. I hate making work for myself. Good luck this your truck
I replaced mine yesterday and I don't know if I got lucky or what but I just kept turning a little and pulling and when it was nearly one rotation it just popped right off. The factory one has a little loose rubber boot over it that I had to pull back.
Yes I would change it. It’s supposed to be changed at like 70000. I was getting high pressure in the crank case. If the engine can’t breathe it will have side effects,I.E. high crank case pressure, oil leaks, the idle will hang for a couple of seconds after throttle is released
@@edwardeplett3231 i believe it’s around 70000 miles. Supposedly once you change it from the original one it won’t need to be changed. I don’t see how that could be possible. Good luck!
Thank you for the help and advice
Glad it could help!

Looks like you have the 2nd type CCV setup from Ford. That style has no filter inside the box. You don't need to replace that type.

@@Whatsinmygreygarage yeah the first design had bolts all around the top so you could take it apart and put a new filter in it.

@@1553Ranchmy 2012 has the baffle design not the filter. They changed it at one point then back to the baffle in the newer years.
Yes they will still swell up so I’m pretty sure that means change
Was something wrong with your old one? Appears you already hadthe non-servicablw one (no bolts) which in theory doesn't need replaced again.
The non-serviceable units will eventually deform the top from pressure and separate at the seal around the top.

I primed mine about 20 times, better safe than sorry.
Has anyone successfully twisted that connection off without damaging it? I twisted it until it wouldn’t turn anymore and it still won’t come off.
