Nickel Plate Road 767: Steam in the Cuyahoga Valley 2016 (NKP 765)

- In September 2016, NKP 765 once again visited the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for their annual Steam in the Valley event. This year, the locomotive was dressed up as NKP 767, the number it wore when it was donated to the city of Fort Wayne at the end of the steam era. These were also the engine's first excursions with its MARS light since the 1970s.
This was my first time seeing the 765, which has been at the top of my to-do list for several years now. Despite the renumbering, I was impressed by the massive Berkshire and had a great time chasing it back and forth through the National Park, despite the crowded roads and the train not always keeping to schedule. I look forward to both seeing the 765 and returning the the Cuyahoga Valley again in the future.

Great video, almost sounded like Ross Rowland on the whistle!! What a fantastic locomotive, nothing quite like a Lima super power to tug at the heartstrings.
If I remember correctly Rich Melvin was at the throttle on Saturday's excursions.This was my first time seeing one of Lima's berks and I was certainly impressed! I look forward to my next encounter with the 765 (or 1225).
Up until my health started going down hill, I use to go out to her home just east of Newhaven IND, and help work on her, getting her ready for trips, even though it didn't pay anything, and it was hard dirty work at times, I would do it all over in a heartbeat, man I miss being around the 765.

Actually the Mars light was attached a few times in the 1980s but they had problems with it. I think the last time until last year the mars light was on the locomotive was in 1987 on the New River Run, but it wasn't working. Great video tho!

Usually The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Operates Nickel Plate Road 2-8-2 Mike #587!
587 has never been to the Cuyahoga Valley and hasn't left the Indianapolis area in several decades. Grand Trunk Western 4070, Ohio Central 1293, Viscose 6, and Nickel Plate 765 are the only steam locomotives that have operated on the CVSR.
