Many people doesn't realize, but there's quite an amount of decisions to make even in the tutorial. Save Us, cripple Us or let it have its full autonomy, save Shadowheart or leave her trapped, interact with the capsules and release the Mindflayers, help the Mindflayer fight or run straight to the transportation control. Heck, even the first thing, the tadpole cauldron gives you the choice to touch it or let it be. You can end the tutorial half dead with miserable Exp or Lv2 with a new fire sword.

BG3 is a bit more linear than bg1 and 2 were. it's kind of "open-by the chapter" kinda free range , like for instance you can do diferent things in chapter one in different orders, but once you pass to chapter 2 you can't go back to chapter 1. while BG 1 and Bg2 you had almost free range of all areas from the start (more so in bg1 , by bg2 things were tightened up a bit more for narrative reasons. )

I am a hardcore Zelda fan too, but trust me, Baldur's Gate 3 deserved to win. Play the game for 20 more hours and then you will be able to say that you've scratched the surface of it. Yeah, that's how big the game is. You can easily stretch the playthrough to 100+ hours. It's absolutely mind-blowing. I am a person that never really got into top-view rpgs and found them overwhelming and overall not my type. But this game is something else man.

if totk was the definition of "you can do whatever you want" mechanically, the best way to put it is that bg3 is the lore-equivalent of it. you can beat the game 100 times without playing the same way almost entirely. so many different choices that you almost forget that its a fancy top down strategy rpg, because it plays like a flawless open world game.

This is why I think bg3 won
    * Bg3 is the first western game in a while to be everything that was promised
    * There's no micro transactions because Larian is heavily against them
    * They take community feed back and suggestions even adding things they never planned to add because players wanted it
    * They're constantly updating the game and fixing bugs (minus that short time everyone at larian went on Vacay a well deserved one)
    * Even minor characters have large personalities and intriguing back stories
    * All of the companions have their own stories and quest which are intriguing as well
    * The world feels alive with emotion and heart
    * They've taken feed back from the previous baldurs gate and added more depth with the origin character "The Dark Urge" which gives the player character their own story. The dark urge is the fully customizable origin character from race, gender, and class.
    * The voice acting and amount of emotion is wonderful
    * After 2 play throughs I'm still coming across things I didn't know where there so there's tons of replay value
    * Larian plans to add full mod support and there are already hundreds of mods for the game
    * There's something for almost everyone that plays it. Be it the story, combat, or romancing. bg3 brought people into the genre they had no experience or no interest in that includes myself. Larian put together a wonderful game
    * Overall almost all of Larian loves dnd and were very passionate about this project and it is very well shown in the game and how hard they're still continuing to improve everything and take in feed back and suggestions
But with that these are all my takes. I adore bg3 I think anyone who even has a small amount of interest should play and give themselves a new experience. Now not everyone is going to love it of course because everyone has their own opinions and everyone is different. I loved Totk however I think with everything bg3 deserved the win.

Don’t get me wrong I loved both games and they both deserved goty but Baldur’s Gate 3 was important, it will be a game people are talking about for years as the standard for rpgs moving forward a lot of people loved this game and it brought dnd to the mainstream for instance me, never played dnd, but I was interested in it and Bg3 was the perfect introduction for me and a lot of other people.
Don’t get me wrong I loved tears, I love Zelda, the franchise is my 2nd favorite series behind halo, it means a lot to me. But baldur’s gate needed to win as it’s more than a game, it was a message to the industry that games like it are still possible and people do want games like this and they will fucking SELL.

@@matthewsteinmetz729 the fuck? DnD is the foundation for all of larian games....it is NOT worse off because it uses the systems, MORE games need DnD systems. Unless, if by systems you simply mean "Dice Rolls", which is what i truly suspect, because how can you say having a billion options for combinations of classes and abilities (inherent to dnd), racial bonuses (again, DnD), mixing and matching weapons/armor even if they dont make sense (DnD allows all of this.) For fucks sake, i have never even PLAYED dnd, and yet, this game was fantastic and in fact i started loving dice checks. In fact, larian dumbed it down. Yuo can only get to level 12 in bg3, but in DnD you can reach level 20 (Although most campaigns are around level 15.) and thats because once you pass level 12 in DnD you start encroaching onto god powers. TOTK was so worthy of the GOTY award but Baldur's Gate 3 deserves it so much. One thing that really stands out in BG3 is the origins. You will meet them and have them join you as companions, but if you play with them you get your own unique storylines. The one I tend to recommend is Dark Urge, which is a custom character, but tied into the plot, an amnesiac struggling with an overwhelming bloodlust, which they can choose to fight or give into those baser instincts.

I cannot reiterate enough just how awesome that is, these days especially. I absolutely love BG3, and I have not played any Zelda games. Same experience here, I was calling people out when BG3 came out for saying that it would win GOTY over Zelda, I was like there is no way that is better than the masterpiece TOTK is, then I finally tried it on September, currently I have 500 hours and multiple playthroughs, I understood why people liked it and I’m so happy I gave it a chance.

I absolutely think it deserves goty, I hate people overreacting, saying it's rigged etc (when that's impossible due to how it is run). So good on you for giving it a try.
Before bg3 I had no interest in this style of game at all and I knew nothing about d&d, I think this was an introduction for a lot of people. I watch Neil Newbons (Astarion actor) streams/videos and saw how passionately he was talking about the game and his character etc. I'm so glad I gave it a chance because I am obsessed. Pro tips to a beginning player: (1) Between battles you should do a “short rest” to heal up… Then every two short rests go to camp and do a “long rest” to get Shadowhearts spells back. (2) In general during a combat turn each character gets to do each of the following: (a) move (b) one green action and (c) one bonus action (yellow)… (3) During combat try NOT wasting your bonus action on drinking a health potion if you can avoid it… Use bonus action to do more damage (yellow attack) and heal between combats instead.

    • @Person01234
      @Person01234 6 місяців тому

This depends heavily on class. Some classes have an assload of bonus actions to choose from, some get very few. It's often a good idea to try and maintain a healthy balance between action/bonus action/reaction abilities (reaction is another class of thing that you can do *in response* to something else happening that you regain at the start of your turn - an opportunity attack is a reaction for example that is taken when an enemy moves out of your threat range) in as far as you can. Obviously this is kind of minmaxing stuff though, it's not strictly necessary. And if you need healing a healing potion can be the best choice.

You pick an origin character - you ARE the origin character. Each one can be a companion (unless you choose to BE one) and they all have excellent stories that tie into the overall narrative. It's a really clever way to experience the story of the game from multiple perspectives and adds to the replayability. I've been a lifelong Zelda fan but this game deserves all the praise it's been getting and more. It's incredible and definitely IS the game of the year. I appreciate you "trying" it but if you went into it with a little less of a chip on your shoulder, you'd actually enjoy it. Also: If you want to use magic or stealth or other fighting styles - pick a different class. Rushing through character creation can lead to an undesired experience if the style you chose without finding out what it does, doesn't suit you.

Liked the video. Hope you will like BG3. :)
It is not open world game, but in my opinion it is not bad in BG3 case. May be it is good idea to see some videos about D&D 5th edition mechanics implementation in BG3 if you do not know/remember them well. This game is very friendly to people who do not know D&D (to hit chance shown in percentage, weapon damage shown in min-max. etc..) and there is tons of explanations about each stat/spell/effect in game , but still it is good to know basics. Just few very simplified basics about combat that can help you:
    1) in combat mode each turn each character have movement/action/bonus action/reaction points. At the level 1 - 1 for each. Skills/spells use action or bonus points. They are shown at bottom of you screen. When you use skill pay attention what type of action it will consume.
    2) beware of attacks of opportunity (when you move from enemy in melee range). If enemy have reaction point it will hit you. You can use disengage action to avoid this, but it consumes action point (so not attack in this turn).
    3) do not forget ''"high ground" rule. For ranged attacks (spell/bow etc.) person who have high ground have advantage. Person on low ground have disadvantage.
    4) use jump action to get in places unreachable by movement. This game has full 3d landscape. Jump consumes bonus action.
    5) spells (except cantrips) use spell slots. Spell slots usually can be regenerated by long rest.

As someone who has played D&D for decades and played the original Baldur's Gate, it's interesting to see someone play this game as a blank slate. Tears of the kingdom was definitely the runner-up among the nominees (if not then Alan Wake 2) since it, like Baldur's Gate, gave the player unparalleled freedom. The difference and what gave BG3 that slight edge is that it did what Botw did for open world games but for RPGs and I'm certain we'll see a bunch of games in the coming years trying to replicate what this game did. Build guide for Link: Fighter Battle Master (no need to multiclass cuz Battle Master is a solid class on its own). Choose Defense for a neutral +1 to AC or Archery if your going for a more ranged style of combat. Your Combat Maneuvers are up to you but Parry, Reposte, and Menacing Attack are reliable. You’ll come across better weapons, shields, armors and elemental arrows as you make progress. You can also purchase/find color dye to use on your gear to better fit Link’s aesthetic. Stoked for this playthrough cuz I was thinking of doing the same after my main playthrough (currently in the beginning of Act3, Lv11).
