The whole marketing team of bg3 does such an insane job. Even though a lot of the stuff is niche it is just insane how everything fits together. Either the Druid sx scene as promotion, the rememberable music track through the whole game, the dnd round they streamed with the voice actors… actually how they involve the voice actors and portrait them as the characters (esp. astarion). It’s just insane how well they made this all up. And all without a seasonal microtransaction shop (look at you Diablo 4). Larian is just like the old blizzard north or BioWare. And finally people that dev a game that love playing games.

I also give tremendous credit to the narrator's voice. She has done a phenomenal job of committing to the tone of the moment, having clarity in her voice, and imbuing a certain level of sultry/lushness to her voice as.well.
Traditionally our own voice would read whats happening and narrate it ourselves, but to have someone respond to our actions whether succeeding or failing really adds joy to the game.

It's actually the weakest aspect of the game I thought. She often came across uninterested and it sometimes felt like a drag listening to her drone on and on.
The game was so strong otherwise (apart from Act 3), did it even need a narrator running all the way through it? I get that it was kind of meant to represent a DM of sorts, but it didn't work for me.

The best thing about BG3 is you have so much flexibility. You can accomplish a quest almost any way you can imagine. To kill the Goblins at the stronghold, you can poison the water, or chain a bunch of exploding barrels together throughout the dungeon, kill them one by one, sneak through without killing them (if you can) and any number of different solutions. You just have to use your imagination, and the game will allow it.

    D&D MUST be turn based.
The only reason the original BG and Icewind Dale were not is because it's a LOT harder to program well. That's why they gave you the pause option.
D&D is not a set of rules that promotes real-time combat.

The movie and the books aren't turn based.
But no, turn based wasn't harder to program, Diablo 1 was originally turn based before they changed it. The games actually operate in turns, the reason they're RTWP is because RTS games were very popular back then. Same reason Diablo isn't turn based. Turn Based was considered dated, and developers wanted to embrace the ability of video games to have real time gameplay.

@@RG32822 Everything began with the game. Books are a different medium. Movies are a different medium. If you make a D&D game what are you converting? Hopefully it's the original game because that IS D&D, and the game play begins with narration that sets the scene, and then you play it out. It's not an FPS game.
