I had a bad experience with a rotary gear shift and that was in the Chrysler 200. I hated it with a passion. I couldn't stand it, I was always having trouble with that. I'm not sure if I want to switch to all-electric or a hybrid and have to deal with another rotary gear shift or not.
Great review ! What if during reverse with parking and it’s in currently in reverse mode , if you leave the pedal and opening door ( during 2-3 seconds ) Will the car moving back during those quick timing
So how do you know if you have shifted into reverse or park when maneuvering in say a parking lot?. Frequently I want to select Reverse with the wheel turned and cannot see the dashboard indicator on my Bronco sport so I have to look down at the rotary as it does not have positive detents and you can easily go beyond reverse into park. This is dangerous and annoying As your have to allow extra time and worse you have to take your eyes of the surroundings. They should have much more positive detents or stops as you can keep spinning the knob and not know what gear you are in . It’s not a safer design to use. It could be easily made as a back and forth stick electronically. It might be safer for the transmission but not the driver! Cheers Warren
Nice try selling an absolutely awful feature. The lack of intuitiveness, the lack of ability to feel what is happening, the lack of ability to find it easily without thinking about it are all lost. This is one of the worst design trends of the last couple of years.
Ridiculous "engineering." This is not intuitive. I jumped in a rental and kept pushing the symbols like they were buttons. Let's see, let's try to look innovative but use a rotary dial!?
I'm a Ford guy but will never buy a vehicle with a rotary gear shifter. I'd rather keep fixing my old Escape and drive it. At least it has a stick.
hate it. bring back the stick
I agree 100%!!!
Went in to test drive a new Ford Explorer, then I saw the dial. I bought a Highlander that week.
Stick's the best Shifter ever I move the Damm thing and love hearing the mechanical shift.
driving over 40 years, never forgot to put car in park or turned car off while driving but to each his own. give me a shifter, thanks.
I really love my 2021 Ford Edge SE AWD!
So sad Ford doesn’t do Ford sedans anymore ;( they have ambient light and dial shifts that I like. Nice review 👍!!

What happens if you accidentally turn the dial while driving at a mid to high speed
It does not shift , it knows

What if you want a car that does what you say, not what it thinks is best? How does that work for J turns?
What happens when you start car dial shift lock how to release it ?
Shifting dials are stupid. It’s nice to be able to shift and no what gear your in while looking out the window to back up.
The rotary is often fetting locked/stuck in P. Why dies this happen?
Has the rotary gear shift dial replaced the normal automatic gear stick?
These nobs are getting popular, is there some kind of safety for if the nob is accidentally turned while moving?
it locks into it's current gear/mode and won't turn eg you can't dial knob into Park or Reverse at high speed. Quite some clever engineering there.
How to remove the rotary dial in ford expedition
Something else to break.

How to remove rotary dial
Drove one of this dial shifter. Its aweful, i hope the stick stays.
How much $ do automakers save by going this route?
50$ and our satisfaction
I would buy a dial to inline stick conversion in a heart beat . A lot of money to be made here!!!!!!
Don’t encourage this behaviour😅

I am not a fan of these dials ... prove it to me I say ... pour 20 ounces soda down that console and prove to me its not 1000's of dollars to repair!!
BOOOOORING + LAMEEEEE = FAILLLLLL

the rotary gear shift dial is why i didn't get a ford
It seems like everybody else is doing it, too.
not from what I saw when I was searching. maybe the newer models. I don't like it at all. @@AUniqueHandleName444
