In 2016 got a 05 escape hybrid with 134k for 2,600. I had to weld the strut tower and for some reason the control arm driver side didn't last a year. But other than that was a great cheap car. Gave me 32 mpg except during winter. Got into an accident last February and was totaled, had about 205k miles. Really missed specially how expensive cars are at the moment. Saw another 05 hybrid for $6 000 🤣

I had a 2005 Escape with the 3.0 V6 and 4WD. I never used the 4WD. It ran great and I eventually sold it for a profit because I bought it used at a low price. Now I have a 2008 Escape with the same engine (it looks like the 2005 engine) and 2WD. Again, I bought it for a song and it runs like a champ! I love these cars!!!!! This engine only has one serious POTENTIAL flaw with cam cover bolts that COULD back off and the torque should be checked when changing the spark plugs and coils - not a big deal.
The engine and transmission in these first two generations are known to go well beyond 300K miles if taken care of with proper servicing.

I have a 2012 Escape XLT 3.0L V6 AWD myself that just crossed 140k miles. Bought it in 2016 at 66k miles. My main issue is the infamous escape rust above the rear wheels. I've only ever had to replace the A/C expansion valve and recharge the system besides general maintenance. I had a professional service job done at 100k and plan on doing the same at 150k. I have been pleased with the reliability of my Escape and find it fun to drive. Although recently I have been much more conservative with my driving, gas is so expensive these days! My best mpg is 25.2.

Cut out the rust, make a hand panel wheel arch. Weld in place, then use 2 pieces of fiberglass, after brushing on a soaking the fiberglass Matt. Sandown with 80 grit paper, apply auto body filler to the all the low spots. Cheese grate down the filler with the filler gets to the consistency of rubber. Then sand with 80 grid paper. Feel for any low spots with your hand. If low spots are felt, reapply body filler, and sand with 80 grid paper until the area is smooth, and level. Then use finer paper like 120 or 150 to feather in the repair with the surrounding area. The mask off, apply 4 0r 5 coats of 2 stage primer. If any perfections are noticed, rough up the area with 180 grit, apply spotty filler putty. Sand down the spot filler potty with 220 dry, or 320 wet. Then let dry, apply 2 to 4 coats of primer. Then wet sand the area with 400 grid. Let dry then apply 2 to 3 coats of paint. There is some minor after paint you have to do, if you want that mirror shine.

I’ve got 2011 ford escape. Only had one other owner that only did normal maintenance and bout it at 92,000 5yrs ago and now at 130,000. Just did all front end suspension. Make sure you’re changing ptu fluid, transmission, differential, and oil. Everything has been great though until someone stole my catalytic converter and I was stupid and bout an eBay crappy one that throws error code on the sensor. Have to replace the whole exhaust soon anyway. I mean, this is a great vehicle with rather minor issues compared to what I have owned. Btw I do all the work and repairs myself. So it’s really not that big of an issue to fix this stuff and way easier to fix than other vehicles I’ve owned. I recommend these suv. It’s been pretty loyal if you take care of it. That’s pretty much true with any vehicle really. Unless it’s certain brands and models. Cough pt cruiser cough 😂

This deserves a separate post. One thing I hate is the sensor for the power steering. The power steering on mine is electric and there is a sensor in the column. The connector gets slightly corroded and the power tearing kicks off. If I don’t have my electrical cleaner with me, I’d have to stop, turn it off, climb underneath the dash, disconnect it and do a quick in and out of the plug a few times to get it to work. Doesn’t happen often. Maybe 3 times in the 5 yrs I’ve had it. Electrical cleaner makes it last way longer before it happens again. I probably should use super fine sand paper on the connectors.

I have a question? There is a Honda dealership in my town that has a 2012 Ford Escape XLT with 204,000 miles, has 3 previous owners, the first owner bought it new in 2012 and appears to have put on an average of 26,000 per year for the 4 years they owned it. Then the 2nd owner had it for another 3 years and drove it an average of 23,000 per year. The 3rd owner owned it for 5 years and averaged about 6,000 miles per year? they are asking $4,200 for it. so the majority of the miles appear to be highway miles?? It was always driven in Wisconsin :( so that makes me nervous Lol's is it worth my time to at least go look at it? or is it a rust bucket by now? Lol's

My understanding is that if the 2012 Escape is well taken care of, it can get 350,000 miles. If the Escape has a v6, it’s like a tank. It also helps if it was built with a tow hitch.
I wanted a different color when we got it back in the day, but since purchasing the Escape from the Ford dealer, that meant nothing to me. It’s been so good. Who cares about the paint color?
We have been looking to grab a used 2012 to have a spare one in addition to mine.
Things to look at: of course, the maintenance upkeep history - the rear frame- the rear rocker panels, both rear wheel wells and their arch linings- the tailgate
That will tell you what kind of conditions it was driven in and if it was taken care of. From the mileage you stated, likely highway miles. Really. We do keep up with maintenance on mine and spray it really good in those areas and the wheels during car washings.
If taken care of, you will have it a while. The carfax should tell you what was replaced due to the age of the suv etc.
We have Chevy and Honda family who switched to Ford purchasing, since this 2012 has been so good.
Don’t let the miles turn you off. You can get a car with 30,000 miles that was never taken care of and is a piece of junk. Never know and it doesn’t hurt to look at the vehicle and drive it.
      Also, check the subframe connector.

It's increased complexity... The complexity of all new vehicles has gone WAY up.
Direct injection, small turbocharged engines, variable valve timing, electronic modules everywhere, they are never going to be as reliable as an older car, even a basic 2010 car.... But the automakers can't meet emissions requirements with those more basic engines, so the days of highly reliable cars are over... Especially if you don't religiously maintain it. New cars are very delicate when it comes to neglected oil changes.

i had a 2003 v6 mustang that i had since it was new and got rid of last year at 165k miles because i had my third kid. ac still blew ice cold (southeastern US car) and I never had to recharge it and everything worked great. I only had to do routine maintenance and change the front brake calipers years ago. i loved that car and I was tempted to make the guy that bought it send me a christmas card every year to let me know how it was doing...
A friend of mine also has a 2007 ford fusion with the aisin transmission and ford v6 engine and that sucker keeps running despite her not doing any maintenance on it! 😛 It's a northern car and the only issue was that it died. I went to take a look at it and noticed that the ATF was not even measurable on the dipstick. I put fluid in it and noticed that it was running out below; she ended up having a cooler line that had rusted it. switched it out and put OEM ATF fluid in it and it still runs, 10s of thousands of miles later! Also, I don't know if they used volvo seat engineering but man those seats were comfortable too on that fusion. 2nd most comfortable seats I've ever sat on except for my wife's old volvo s60

Drench, then ring-out a terry cotton cloth with the mixture, then a good wipe down, or rub away a stain. Cleans anything on the interior of a car, except glass. It won't pull the color out of fabrics/vinyl. Cleans greasy handprints & greasy shoe transfer on carpeting.

Reminds me of the riddle: "When is a door not a door?" "When it's ajar."
I don't know that you need to use 4WD for 10-15 min a month. Maybe 10-15 minutes every few months, but make sure you do it on gravel or grass, not on pavement as most true 4x4 4WD (not AWD) systems need to slip or you'll cause them to bind. I only ran mine once every 4-6 months for about 15 minutes at a time and it lasted for 9 years / 180k when I went to sell it . The key is to do the fluid changes regularly (about every 50k-60k miles if you use it a lot, or about 90k-100k if you don't -- I would just do the trans and 4WD every 60k miles at the same time on my truck).
