Yeah man it’s a legit life saver. I can’t tell you how many times on set they have come in handy. Lol people have questioned why I have a closest full of lamps on many occasions but it’s so worth it. Appreciate you watching Steven!
I appreciate the fact that these are actually affordable options, lol. Also important to take this as a reminder that you don't have to buy everything on your gear wishlist when you can just buy the right tools or diy to achieve the same effect instead. That cinefoil stuff is so cool! 😄
Glad you liked it! And that is a very true point! I have built up all this stuff over time, it would be crazy to go out and buy everything at once. Just as you need things, pick ‘em up! Appreciate you!
A mentor of mine gave me a bunch of his old stuff and I didn't know what half of it was. Turns out, there was a load of cinefoil and 2 carellini clamps! Thanks for educating me!
So I’ve seen a million of these videos and run a small production agency and this was useful to me, especially the lamp collection! If you’re a beginner these tips are GOLDEN! Much love, great video!
Man, when I went to University and we were shooting stuff for our sketchy Uni-TV, we used to use Cinefoil for EVERYTHING. I remember having no lighting equipment whatsoever but using a combination of Cinefoil and regular tinfoil to shape the light from bare lightbulbs. That stuff is crucial when you’re on a budget. Also kudos to my Uni for investing next to no money in lighting equipment but basically owning an infinite amount of foil 😂
Haha glad it wasn’t mid. I’ve thought the same about alot of gear vids. So i really wanted to make one of all things that I actually use! Really appreciate you watching man and so glad you found this helpful!!
Debated whether to click on another gear recommendation video but so glad I did. These suggestions are awesome Carsten! Spending money on lamps for production design will increase your production value way more than a better camera. Subbed!
Glad I could start you’re morning off with a chill vibe lol! 4x3 is one of the best aspect ratios in my opinion. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch Andreas!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I really tried to make sure I included genuinely useful and affordable options. So glad you got something from it! Appreciate you!
I found the video really useful! Trying to invest my little money wisely in gear. Thank you for sharing an interesting selection (not a copy-paste from other videos!) :) Greetings from Italy.
I’m so glad you found it helpful! I remember being in that same spot and all the videos kinda said the same stuff so I really tried hard to talk about other important cheap stuff! Really appreciate you watching!
I subscribed like 2 minutes in lol I struggle so much with lighting and i love the look of your video, and how realistic your tips felt. super helpful Thank you!
Haha I struggle with Lighting a lot too. It never gets much easier lol. Thank you so much!! I’m so happy you are finding value in the video! It makes taking the time to make these videos worth it! Appreciate you!!
@@carstenschlag You're talented man, loved your work! Can I ask you a filmmaking question since I am a beginner - for full frame, if I could only have two focal lengths for all my work (narrative, short docs) out of 31, 43, 58 and 85 mm (Dulens primes), which two would you suggest? I was thinking 43 and 85. Would love to hear your thoughts though. Thanks!
I’d probably go 31 and 58. 43 is probably too tight for a lot of wide stuff you will want to get. And 85 I like but it’s also pretty tight and less versatile. 58 is a good mid focal length that has compression but isn’t too long that you can’t do handheld easily with it. Hope that helps!
Yo Evan !! Haha glad I could influence you. These really are useful tools, I legit used all of them on set the day after I filmed this vid haha. Appreciate you watching!
Great advice, thank you for teaching those of us “UA-cam” film makers 😅 May I ask what the talking head portions of this video were recorded on? Is it SOC or graded? Great image, thanks! Wait…are you wearing a Forestas Market T shirt?? That’s where I used to get our lunch meats! You’re not in Phoenixville PA are you??
Glad you are finding it useful! Everything is shot on my fx3 and then I grade it in resolve. And yes !! I am from Phoenixville! I’m actually moving back to town next month and am super pumped to be coming back. It’s a great place. Appreciate you watching!
