Hello Robert, a friend in Oz rode the Wilderness railway last week, he said he had to drive through snow on the hills of Tasmania, somehow snow and Australia don’t belong in the same sentence. I’m pleased you enjoyed the ride, it was very hot in Switzerland, approaching 40C, even here in the UK it is already in the low 30’s and it’s only eleven in the morning. It’s nice to be touring again, although I did pick up the virus on my way back to the UK. My trip to Poland has just been cancelled, as things are at the moment my next trip will be in October to the Pyrenees on the French/Spanish border to ride the little trains of Northern Spain. All the best and keep warm. Tim.

I really enjoyed my recent visit to Switzerland, especially the mountain railways. That was a long walk, especially if the weather was still as hot as it was on my visit. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video 🙂.
The speed that these cog-drive trains crack-on onward up the mountains ! The wear on the cog-gear must be phenomenal. Any idea how often the cog track gets replaced ?
The cog rails last a long time, some of the cog rails on the Pilatus Bahn are over 100 years old, although the pinion wheels attached to the trains do require replacement more frequently.
That was my reaction too. But we were on one of the new trains! (I recently travelled on the Rigibahn - but on April 6th - the day before the new trains entered service.)
I used to summer on Rigi, at Felsentor and Rigi Staffel... so nice to see it again as I am too old to travel now. And compare those pristine railroad tracks the trash you see in America. The Swiss are very different people.
It's hard to find a nicer place to spend summer. I'm no spring chicken anymore, so I'm determined to make the most of my remaining years in which I'm still fit enough to travel.
