  • Having visited the fascinating Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Zbýšov our little train is ready to take the group back to Zastávka u Brna where we watched the two narrow steam locomotives run round their train ready for their trip back to Zbýšov.
Grumpy Diesel No. T478 - 1002 was waiting in the main line station ready to whisk our group back to Brno and once again the driver kindly allowed me to place a camera in the locomotive cab, so that we can all enjoy the view normally reserved for the train crew.
Czech Railways (České dráhy) iconic “Grumpy Diesel” locomotives, also known as “Bardotka” owing to the French actress Brigitte Bardot sharing a similar profile to the locomotive's front end when viewed from the side. Grumpy came about as a result of the shape of the front windows making the locomotive look as though it is scowling when viewed head on. Our locomotive No.T478-1002 was one of the prototypes for what was to become Class 751, it differed from the production batch in that the cab was more rounded rounded hence the “Bardotka” nickname, it is now preserved and available to haul charter trains such as the one featured in this video.
We leave the old fashioned, quiet country station at Zastávka u Brna to head back towards Brno Hlavní nádraží, a busy station hosting international, regional and a variety of local trains as well as a substantial number of freight trains. This was a good time to visit, before the old trains most of which were peculiar to the original Czechoslovakian Railways are swept away by modern European trains.
The route we travel along is in the process on being upgraded from a single track non electrified line to a twin track modern electric railway, making this a last opportunity to see the railway as it was.

Ďakujem, som rád, že sa ti video páčilo. Od vodiča bolo milé, že mi dovolil umiestniť kameru do kabíny, aby sme si mohli vychutnať rovnaký výhľad, aký sa naskytne jemu.

Thanks Tim for those nice journeys to and from Zastavka u Brno. Glad to see you enjoying more Czech railways! The great majority of the rail system is still single track, and can be enjoyed at a fairly leisurely pace (still a lot of un-barriered, unlighted level crossings), with frequent stations and great coverage of the country.
As an aside, 'Zastavka' is the most common station name in the Czech Republic, meaning simply station/stop/stopover. Usually it is used for a small subsidiary station on the outskirts of town, eg 'Adamov zastavka', as opposed to the main town station, simply 'Adamov'. Zastavka u Brna, meaning Station/stop near Brno, is a liitle different in that the town itself seems to be called Zastavka. My Czech isn't good enough to be certain of this, so please put me right if I'm wrong!

Hello, your Czech is much better than mine, I'd be lost without Google Earth and Google Translate. I live in the UK and I enjoy visiting Czech, there are plenty of reasonably priced flights and accommodation isn't expensive, although I usually travel with a tour group on specially chartered trains such as the one featured in this video. I'll be uploading half a dozen more videos taken in Czech over the coming months, most featuring steam traction, some on the main line and some taken at heritage locations. Thanks for explaining the station names, I noted when travelling by rail in and around Prague, the station names contain Prague in their names for quite some distance away from the city itself.

Yes, the town/village is indeed called Zastávka (and they perhaps had added u Brna to prevent confusion), the town/village was originally called Boží Požehnání (God's Blessing) and was renamed back in 1920.

    • @pavelp80
      @pavelp80 2 місяці тому

You are correct. One of the meanings of zastávka is simply a place where train/bus/tram stops and it's often smaller station in some longer villages or town. I'm not sure if it could be called station as it's often just a platform with a rain shelter and maybe a bench. Broader meaning is something like a break/pause/stop during a trip. Train Station is translated as nádraží/stanice (e.g. Brno - hlavní nádraží = Brno - main station)

@@pavelp80 Thanks Pavel. When there was a bigger rail network in Britain, there were many tiny stations called 'Halts', where the train would only stop if requested. A Halt is similar to a zastavka I think. Over time they have almost all either been removed or upgraded into stations. I'm impressed that Czech has managed to keep so many.

    G’day Tim from Puf’n-Pete.
I have just read of your ‘pulling out of making UA-cam videos’. This is sad news for all of us followers and subscribers worldwide. I agree with Neil Forbes’ comments.
I have enjoyed all your offerings since we first met in 2014 on the Bulgarian RTC Railtour and many more since, as well as during my regular visits to Britain and your visit to PBR a few years ago.
Your videos are normally my entertainment whilst eating my dinner after a day on PBR.
Will keep in touch. Best Wishes for now - Pete

Hello Pete, nice to hear from you. Google/UA-cam/The USA Taxman have drained all the fun out of posting UA-cam videos. UA-cam is no longer the natural home for budding film makers, instead it has become an unpleasant mix of wasting time appealing against bogus copyright claims and trying to avoid the USA tax man plundering the accounts of us small time UA-camrs who are not making money for money we do not owe. It is impossible to speak to a real person who is in a position to help at Google, they do not want to know. The USA Tax man is asking for a British certificate of tax residence and the British tax man doesn't issue them to small time UA-camrs, the certificate is intended to be used by big time investors and people earning megabucks. I find myself in a position that is impossible to get out of along with around 1.8 million other UA-cam creators. I should be making films, not worrying about tax and copyright issues. Google has become an arrogant, uncaring organisation acting like a beast out of control.
That is the reason that I will not be making anymore videos once I used up the material I already have. Unfortunately I have just booked an RTC tour to India, something I would not have done if I'd known what I know now. If UA-cam does not sort my issues out, I have another option for publishing my videos via a company that sells DVD's and video downloads, sadly that company would require me to remove most of my videos from UA-cam.
Well, that's got my problems out of the way, how are you keeping? I have enjoyed meeting up with you over the years, we've had some amazing adventures together, such as the hovercraft ride back from the Isle of Wight and that Bulgaria tour was one of the best RTC tours I've participated in. If I'm not able to sort out my issues with UA-cam/the USA tax man, my travelling will be restricted to the UK with a trip to New Zealand every two or three years to see my son. My model railway will benefit from the extra spare time I'll have and as I will no longer need to top up my travelling money from working full time, I'm likely to retire from working all together. This isn't how I expected to end my UA-cam career, but I am where I am "Killed off by USA tax man's greed" will be the message engraved on Timsvideochannel1's tombstone.
Stay safe and please keep in touch. Cheers. Tim.

They are retaining some of the old buildings, although money is being spent, it's not being wasted on vanity projects as is far too often the case in the UK 🍻😊.

Hello Neil, I hope you are keeping well; Bob was getting worried because we hadn't heard from you for a week or two. Every time I shorten a clip I try to avoid making people and objects appear and disappear, but it isn't always so easy, as I watch the edits back I can almost hear you saying there’s another haunted scene, but you you've got to hand it to me, it's not every day you see a complete train disappear or appear LOL.

Budeme si muset užívat starých nádražních budov a vlaků, dokud to ještě jde, než je modernizace smete. Je dobře, že se do železnice investují peníze, protože to zajistí její přežití v dohledné době.
