The wider issue was that Bajaj ,once they launched pulsar , then after never really worked on design for a long time ,and solely relied heavily on just mechanical performance and simultaneously taking advantage of the brand's name that it created in early 90's meanwhile TVS understood the importance of tech inclusion and extra features provided in budget friendly bikes and took gamble while continuously improving design and performance. TVS ever since they stepped into racing , has been evolving very aggressively and that's a big plus for them , at least in this segment .
*If TVS gives dual channel abs to 160 4v then it will be the king of the segment, as the pillion seat and ride comfort of TVs is far better than pulsar*
I own N160 & let me tell you, it does stand out. People literally look at it & admire it and i don't think same can't be said for apache as 4v is nearly 4+ yrs old, only headlight changed in newer verisons.
Pulsar brought the revolution in Indian motorcycle industry. Bajaj was plagued by poor quality of spares. I still fondly remember my pre owned pulsar 150dtsi 2008 model with 18 lts tank... Refills were at thousand kilometre intervals on odometer in city.... Sits comfortably at 80-85kmph all day. Those were the days. Eventually give away due frequent failures after clocking 30000kms
Bought N160 a week ago and believe me in this segment and in this price range N160 is unbeatable... Looks, performance, safety, features, comfort everything is just remarkable...N160 is such a revolution in Bajaj market currently...In 160 segment missing this bike will be regretfull....
Got the TVS Apache 160 4v with dual channel ABS this february. Absolutely love the machine. Has most boxes ticked, its just the brakes where Pulsar shines!!!
I haven't ride n160 yet but I used my friends Apache 160 for a year. So I have a little mixed experience. No doubt mileage and power is good. But frequently changing gears is annoying. In traffic it was a headache for me. Handling is also terrible in corner, i got no confidence in corners.. Even i rode other heavy bikes too, but cornering was never was a problem on other bikes. Seat comfort is top notch, rode 150km non stop without a single hault. Not a single problem. Exhaust note is so good.
I would disagree with the mass opinion of modes being unnecessary and gimmicky. Only a person who has used it often can tell its practicality..for others it seems like a gimmick. For me its most useful for city rides and highways. There is a clear cut difference in power and mileage obtained from the modes and so as speeds. And we can adjust these according to our necessity. Rain mode is effective during rains, which i feel the bike gripping more on the road than normal(maybe only my intuition). Surprisingly my pillion also felt the same (maybe his intuition 😂). But anyway boosts my confidence. So its nothing but a very useful day to day practical feature than a gimmick.
I picked pulsar after test riding both..the most annoying thing in apache are 1. The side stand handle comes between your heel and foot when disengaged and It always hurdles my feet whilst switching gears. 2. At higher gears even if we lower the speed a bit, the engines keeps getting stalled and off. None of these issues were there in pulsar.!
For someone who is 5'6", mostly a car amd scooter user, relaxed rider.. I don't like to rev anywhere near the redline, and safety is more important, which one is the better bike. I will be test driving those anyway, but just asking from the general public at large for some cues. Also, dont ask why i am in this budget if I am a relaxed rider, I always felt wider tyres are safe so.. i won't settle for thinner tyres than the current sizes.
Even after so many months of launching I see very very less number of n250 n160 and f250, bajaj should give importance to the quality of spares and body parts
Oh boy, this was the video I was waiting so long to watch! Good comparison video. As always, Rishaad does a mega job! My next suggestion would be to bring together all the 3 Avengers of the 160 segment, the TVS Apache 160, Bajaj Pulsar 160 & the Hero Xtreme 160, that would be a blast of a video! Keep up the good job Autocar India.
Apache 160 4v has pretty flat power delivery, which isn't much impressive if you are used to strong midrange surge of FZ / Gixxer / Pulsar. Otherwise, it's a great bike with amazing handling, strong top end power and butter smooth engine.
Coming back to the bikes, I would rather pick the RTR if i really had to. Barring the garrish red accents on the seats (ugh!!) and the alloys too, I think it actually looks better of the two, swap the headlight with the pulsar and you have the better package too. :D Also it would be only fair to compare it with the new one no?
@@mrinalchoudhury7423 indeed. I too thought the same about the red bits on the bike, but they are way better in person and imo it's a better head Turner than the pulsar.
@@struggler5960 Bajaj has a reputation of weak spares, and frequent service interval, So,u may lick bajajs boots..... But the fact is....u will spend all ur time in garage after 4-5yrs .....
Man... the Pulsars 0-100 in 21 secs is even slower than v1 FZ 😶 Not that outright acceleration matters much in this segment, but still in 2022, a 160cc bike should do 0-100 in at least 15 secs.
New gen pulsars are miles ahead of apaches.... I have ridden both of these bikes, here's my conclusion:- PULSARs are *Better finished *Refinement on par with Japanese counterparts *Practical day to day usable features *More proportional and design looks complete ❤️ *3 times visibility of headlights
Hey any tall riders here? I am planning to buy Apache and my height is 6'1. Any tall riders riding this bike for long run? Can anyone please tell me how is the comfort ?
I own an earlier Apache and was very disappointed by its thrashy, noisy engine that is full of vibrations from as early as 50 kmph! I wonder if suddenly TVS have dramatically changed the character of the engine! Pulser on the other hand was always much more enjoyable to drive. I wonder if you have been biased towards the Apache or against the Pulsar. I have never owned a pulsar and have no reason to favour it BTW.
Ive owned the 2022 apache 160 4v for about 5-6 months now and i can confirm its very smooth regardless of speed, ive clocked a maximum of 90KPH on it till now so not the fastest the bike can go but even then it was mostly vibe free and felt planted on the road. From what i know tvs has improved the apache quite a lot in the recent few iterations.
Obviously TVS. Bajaj should work on their overall build quality and product quality. I was once a huge pulsar fan but after i got pulsar 135 , perception changed. No more Bajaj. Also very bored the way Bajaj is ramping up their product line. Please work Bajaj. Be customer centric not profit centric.
I am a happy Apache 160 rider but why I have this urge to have Pulsar N160, can't understand. Bajaj showroom is near to my house. I keep seeing this Pulsar, so i went for a test ride. Had no intention to buy but man when i rode this beast, I fallen in love. Something is different in this Pulsar. Beautiful Machine.
We need a pulsar f125 with first in the segment 4v engine or vva maybe. With all other exact same f250 specs such as breaks suspension design etc. Basically a more fuel efficient, equally powerful and better looking one than n160.
In my area tvs service is better and even the Apache 160 4v dual channel abs is 2k cheaper than n160 dual channel abs So better of with Apache but depends on you like few people like pulsar 🙃
I would prefer mt 15 instead of both because it is superior on mileage, reliability, smoothness and it is fun to drive and corners better than any naked motorcycle under 160cc
I believe N160 is the actual competition for RTR 160 2V and RTR 1604V is the competition fr NS160 as I considered according the 2 n 4 valves system. Do correct me if I'm wrong
Still both Bajaj & TVS not changed that alloys wheels design 😂😂 . Come on man that alloy design in TVS that was in 1st gen RTR series 🤣 & alloy in pulsar was 1st seen in 1st gen NS200 😝.
That analog tachometer on Pulsar is an old school charm and still looks pleasing... 😇
It looks beautiful actually :)

I just got my N160 dual ABS yesterday and i love it
With most parameters being so close, the dual channel ABS of the new Pulsar is enough for making it my most favorite in the segment..
After purchasing,u will spend half of ur days in service center and garage
The digital instrument cluster on TVS has ton of information, but don't know why I like the Bajaj s semi digital cluster, it's very appealing. 😍

Which of these will have less vibrations in long run. Pulsar bikes perform well when new and starts vibrating after few years
