@@haloharry97 I've considered it too, for a personal theory of my own about the timeline. Long story short: All the previous games were coma hallucinations enabled by the Zonai device healing him, to help ensure that he retained his skills from prior to his near demise.
And yes, that word choice is intentional. Demise is one of the enemies Link fights, after all.
A nice aspect to this personal theory, is that it easily solves the question as to why there are so many reused characters in the series, even including Ganon in some form, and Zelda.
Also, something to note. You might wonder, "If it was all a coma dream or hallucination, then why don't the pajama's show up in games that came out after Windwaker?"
They're all preparation for the awakening phase.
Windwaker was a warning of what could happen if he fails, and what is possible if he succeeds. That being him and zelda being freed from the cycle.
Twilight princess got him back into the mindset of what he left off in. And it being reminiscent of OoT is due to OoT being one of his first hallucinations, while this will be one of his last. Helps keep things in order mentally. Kind of like 'picking up where he left off', since his most fresh and vivid mental processes will be after having just fought Ganon and lost (bad timeline OoT); and now it's showing him a future where he won instead but Ganon comes back. (Hmmm... BoTW?)
And Skyward sword was some of his final memories coming back to him before he woke up back into his actual real hyrule. Or perhaps better explained as a foretelling of what might be, by the Zonai's device. Tears of the Kingdom and Skyward sword, have something in common after all.
Finally, one last thing. What about the older games than OoT, or the gameboy ones, or Majoras Mask for that matter.
MM we'll start off with. That's going to mostly stay the same as one of the more popular theories. Link being in purgatory. Except now it's his own coma hallucination of it, having experienced instead the victory timeline yet somehow still fell to his demise once again. This is the zonai device reminding him "hey bro, you're like at 1/10th of a heart here. And you really don't have much time left unless this is a sucess." Hence the 3 days and impending doom.
Oracle games. Think of those as similar to when you are dreaming and you have one of those really strange dreams that doesn't really seem to make any sense, but you go along with it anyways. I say this because Link doesn't really retain much of any of those skills or abilities in, almost any of the games outside the gameboy entries. I figure this was probably something along the lines of the Zonai device going through some sort of mental reboot process. Hence why in the next bit we talk about 'Link's Awakening'.
I think at this point, the device thought it could revive him, but failed. And so it had to go through the process some more with other games like Windwaker of course, and the oracle series.
But what about LttP and Z1 and Z2?
Essentially the zonai device was going through the process of rebuilding Link's mental memories of his world. But his brain is still processing everything the Zonai device thought wasn't necessary to go through. (hence why they are not the first games in the series timeline)
In each of these scenarios, the zonai device is basically just creating actors out of Link's memories. OoT for instance puts a bigger emphasis on the fact that Link is alone without parents, because he is also without parents when he met his demise. And what is one of the main things most people think of when they meet theirs? Usually a beloved family member, like their parents.
So that's a big thought process initially stuck in his mental loop it had to get through first. Hence the child link, and not just in OoT, but also LttP.
      Now, Minish Cap.
His hat was teaching him puzzles. Cognitive training. Essentially the Zonai device took over as a character to help him in that situation. Similar with Navi, and Tatl. And the owl. (I forget its name).
And now for the true final bit.
Any similarities between games story elements on a more direct level, will be because of the zonai device reusing storylines it cooks up to keep him mentally entertained while kept in that coma while healing.
Hence why some games appear to have direct references more than others.
And BoTW of course had the most references since it all was referencing BoTW in some fashion.

In an interview he acknowledged the TP design as the closest he's ever gotten to make the hat look cool in his eyes, but it was still not cool enough for him.

If you look at that recent Nintendo Direct trailer where Zelda is the playable character, the one that looks much closer to the spirit of the zelda franchise, link does have his green tunic. However, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity ? Blue tunic. It signals the biggest shift ever in the franchise, towards BotW style content instead of the semi-linear style that has been prevalent since ALTTP.

While the hilt is technically indigo, depending on the lighting, it looks more bluish very often. So it doesn't look that out of place compared to other colors.
Also, this makes Link Nintendo's biggest character with blue as their main color. Before Link, the only main Nintendo character associated with that color was Captain Falcon, which is a C-lister at best (sorry, F-Zero fans. Not the games' fault), while Link's green overlapped with Luigi's.

      @BetaDude40 3 місяці тому +2

@@GoronMerchant A retroactive story justification can be unsatisfying for some people, but I should point out that there are multiple ways that stories are able to be justified. Literature majors use "Watsonian" and "Doylist" explanations for in-universe and out-of-universe explanations respectively.
The problem is that Zelda games were never really developed with the idea of an overarching massive story structure like other media franchises. It was meant to be more like Mario in that regard, with each game being a different self-contained story using recurring characters kind of like a myth. Sure there would be references between games, and occaisionally direct sequels like with OoT and MM, but the intentions weren't to make a huge "Zelda Cinematic Universe" that was wholly consistent or accurate (case in point: the geography between games being absurdly different having to be handwaved away by writers as "oh that just happens sometimes, Hylians are used to it")
With that said that doesn't make them less legitimate. I like the 3-timeline divergence at OoT, and I think that it makes sense to try and connect the stories together in a satisfying way. Some people don't like that and feel it takes away from the "mythos," or it relies on too much out-of-universe justification. It's not a sign of a lack of creativity at all, I think it's great, but there is also some merit in disliking the timeline as some fixed canon.
