- I've spent a full week using Huawei's feature-packed P20 Pro smartphone as my full-time handset. Here's what I think so far of the software, performance, tri-lens camera tech and battery life, ahead of our full P20 Pro review.

Every "big" youtuber says that gs9+ camera is better than p20 pro. I don't buy that. Feels like a paid thing to keep the good image of samsung phones. I write this comment on an s7 edge and i like my phone, but s9+ is not that big of an upgrade for me atm. I feel like p20 pro is my right choice.
anticsdos watch supersaf camera comparison then.. having 40mp is not an advantage. Really dark, most tech youtubers said using 10mp mode is more clear and sharp than 40mp.
Kena Troll he is the exact one i had in mind. His comparison seems far off the reality or at least off the reality others presented. Im confused atm. I knew the video quality is the same except the OIS on 4k 30 on p20 pro, but the pictures are way better on p20 pro than gs9+, not as he presented in his video. Or i will wait for the phone to come in stores and i will see with my own eyes.
Yes all Samshit videos are payed . As yo can see nobody talks about the problems the S9 has and the fact that the screens are low quality and have burns on them very fast like it happened to my Note 8 after 4 months of use and the lack of OS updates. 96% of the videos about Samsung products are payed .
Livius thanks for your reply. And also that thing with some non responsive areas on screen...that simply cannot happen when you pay that amount of money on a phone. And also lack of updates as i experimented myself on s7 edge. I sometimes even forget there is the update feature.
anticsdos go with the p20 pro it's a really good phone, the images are more realistic than s9 and UI is lot faster and a lot more optimised. And as far as the updates go Huawei is nothing like pixel or OnePlus but they're going to deliver updates, my low end honor 6x( released in 2016 ) got tons of updates and I think it's going to get Oreo aswell. But I'm not sure about the speed of updates.
Watching your vids give alot of comfort to huawei fans
Few stupid points made
1- EMUI has now just been brought in line with android numbering to save confusion, so EMUI 8.1 is based on Android 8.1 - rather than EMUI 5 being android 7.0.
2 - P20 is a logical step from P10, it didnt start as a P1

I bought my honor 7 after losing my s6, I bought thinking this Chinese phone will stop working in a year so,tht was 2014, now in 2018 my phone is still working lag free and I'm absolutely blown away by the quality of this phone. Huawei really outdid themselves. I want to buy a new phone, but this phone simply refuses to die

Tommy Mercy yes, a midrange phone with specs of a flagship back then, atleast for s6, I can assure you whatever new Huawei phone u can get ur hands on its worth the money, its absolutely lag free for sure.. speaking from experience

I don't see anyone talking about the new speakers on the P20 Pro and how do they compare with the rest of the flagships..

I'm so relieved that they kept the home button. I use it all the time on my P10 plus and it's so good. I like that it's not really a "button" that you push down (like with iPhone)
What about the audio quality with speakers and headphones?
It has a dolby atmos driver so it should be excellent.
Sound quality in headphones has always been a weak point with Huawei and nothing tells me the P20 is different unfortunately.
Daniel Jansson how ia that nobody in huawei is not looking at this problem. I had p6, p8, p10... The sound is a piece of... As far as headphones i use my iPhone ones aa they are the loudest
iPhones has always had very good sound quality in headphones and I enjoy the quality of my X. However I also have an old LG V10 and that beats even the iPhone and I keep it for multimedia purposes as it shines in the camera department and sound compared to the X. Oldie but goldie.
Daniel Jansson lg v10 camera quality is better than the iPhone x? Lol come on dude, I have a damn lg v30 and the camera is disappointing af, the iPhone x is one of the best cameras on the market...
I've just got my P20 Pro and had a go with Google Maps. Appears to be working perfectly fine on production models.
I have the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, pretty much the same specs bar the camera. But trying the "Maps" app like he did (ie; open the app & search), I had NO problems at all, if anything, I blink & it's already done! He's on 8.1 .. I'm on 8.0 ..
Hi, has the Google Maps issue been fixed - I noticed it's been two months since your review now... Was about to purchase it, but then saw this issue - and I rely a lot on Google Maps to get around...
Also if it's not fixed, do things get better if you change the display resolution to the next lower one from FHD+?
Once you logoff your google account, the maps app works fine. Found this identical issue on Honor View10

The Google maps issue is down to Google not having the optimisation ready for maps on Huawei. Happened on the p10 until Google released and update for Google maps
Hi I've just got this it's amazing but on the left the bezel doesn't seem to be flush like the right side all the corners are the same it's just the bezel feels slightly raised when you slide finger along have you noticed this

About Google maps issues, try screen resolution.... Chang é FHD+ to HD+...
To solve the GMaps delay and freezing, Going into settings , enable developer option and mock location option (even if you don't have any apps that give you mock location)
If you go to Select mock locations app in developer options, it only lets you select "nothing" and like that menu option, it does nothing and the problem remains :P
What’s the purpose of the P20 Pro’s Notch? I understand that Apple put the “ugly” notch because they want to implement the All-Screen design and have somewhere to put the camera and face I.D. sensor. And also why is there a physical home button when there are already on-screen buttons instead of just making it All-Screen.Please Enlighten me. Thanks!

The twilight is the one I want, but Vodafone, CarPhoneWarehouse, EE (and other outlets) only seem to be selling the Blue and Black in the UK, how in the UK do we get hold of the twilight?

I have had the same issue with Google Maps. It seems to work for most, but for a few of us it's completely unusable. Really really hope it's fixed soon as I hugely rely on google maps ever day

Had my p20 pro 2 weeks and loving it. Google maps performs very quickly, nothing like the video. Maybe an update fixed.

I personally have a Huawei and love it! however the Samsung galaxy s5 and s6 have the best phone cameras I've ever used.
id say my asus zenfone is the best camera in the world for its price. photos are sharpened and look very detail.

Did you keep the screen protector on? Does it have an oleophobic coating or Gorilla Glass?
Do you know if it works with Android Auto? Seems some Huawei phones have a problem with it.

DarkPa1adin easy fix via update. Every new phones have issues at the begging. At least it’s not blowing up like the Note phone.

Planning to get the P20Pro to upgrade from Nexus6. As soon as you stop getting new Android version updates on Nexus/Pixel devices, people would understand that stock Android is overrated. Have been using a MediaPad M3 tablet for a while and the UI doesn't bother me at all, completely negligible differences. Regarding S9+ comparison, in UK P20Pro is almost 50% cheaper per month (on EE) plus gives you a Bose headset if you pre-ordered (£300+ worth). I think these make P20Pro a no-brainer choice. I like S9 front design but the back is so ugly, plus as an office worker fingerprint sensor on the front is a big plus

Did you use a theme engine like Substratum to make the settings page black or is at an option in the settings menu?
I'm not sure what's been causing the maps issue on your handset but it's been fine from day one on mine.

OK, let's talk about Google Maps (and a few other GPS apps, by the way) :
Samsung phones were the best about showing me my EXACT location - that is until my Huawei P10 made its way into being my companion. And the P10 is just that, a precise GPS instrument.
Now you're telling me that this new version o Huawei, the P20 is a retrocess, a failure, in this regard . I am so surprised - and so happy with my P10. Do you know what happened? The P10 is lousy with 4G, spending lots of battery when the reception area is not so good, to the point I turned 4G off. How about that one? I also turned off GPS "assisted" stuff and told the phone to rely only on the GPS sensor. And what you know - battery life went up VERY noticeably and GPS precision pretty much improved!
Want to try that on that P20 phone (if you still have it, that is)?...

I prefer the fingerprint scanner on the front. I always have the phone on my desk at work. Its much more discrete to just touch the scanner rather than pick it up to reach round the back.
How would you compare it to s9? Which one do you prefer?

I haven't had a problem with my P20 pro and maps in Canada. The pro definitely has a better camera than my Samsung 8plus. I haven't found the battery that great if you have the always on display. It is similar to my Samsung Galaxy 8plus.
I have Note 8 and still have issues with Google maps I switched to Wase no issues 👍👍👍😀😀😀

I've been keeping up with Huawei and of course the new P20, I'm actually using the Huawei Honor 8 and it's been my only phone for more than a year now and this phone is great. Even right now with only the EMUI 5.0.1 and still on Android 7.0 it's still a beast. But after seeing this, using Google maps is literally life for me. I'm always on the road and even just gettin around in the city I use dafuq outta my map cuz it's such a convenience for me, and on the Honor 8, there's no such lag Google Maps like portrayed here in this video. My shit works fast and load just as quick as any high-end phone. Damn that's kind of a deal breaker for me lol I can't believe I'd make the decision to pass up on this much of an upgrade over a GPS!

Not really a problem, it's definitely gonna be fixed with a software update, the P20 Pro doesn't hit stores till a little later anyway.

I think Google are doing something to maps, even on my phone its gotten really slow in the past few months. Everything else is fast but maps is slow and laggy

I really want this phone but two things kill it. 1. Front fingerprint scanner, I find a back fingerprint scanner is soooo much easier especially if you're laying down or something, you can easily unlock it with one hand without dropping the phone. I have small hands so that's really important for me. And I find it's just more comfortable. 2. No external memory card slot. One of my favourite things, if I break my phone, I can just take the memory card out and I've got all my stuff, but if it's internal only, say goodbye to your stuff. I know some phones come with online storage but I'm personally not a fan and find alot of online storage has issues.
Other than those two things, this phone is everything I want but they're both deal breakers. Huawei was one of the first companies to put the fingerprint scanner on the back and most companies followed suit cause it's better and now they've gone backwards for God knows why.
I just tried gmaps on mine and it's lightning quick. Strange why yours is so slow.

was this close to buying the mate 10 to try out the PC mode functionality...then i was given a free phone, an iphone 5s....cant complain since its free and it works as new.

Dude it's the app, the phone has android 8.1, it's kind of obvious that not all the apps will be optimised, give it a little time, that's a thing with non stock android phones sometimes
