SUCESSFUL Subaru CVT Ring & Pinion Swap
Переглядів 372Місяць тому
If you bought a CVT transmission that is the correct model, but the final drive gear ratio is incorrect, it can be swapped using the ring and pinion from your original transmission. Is it worth it? ill leave that up to you, but I did it, and it worked. If your paying a mechanic, it'd probably cheaper to get the correct transmission. This was done on a TR690, but will be the same process for a T...

They are both TR690's, I failed to think there could be a ratio difference between the Legacys, and the Outbacks, Whoops! You don’t leave glow plugs on while running…. I’d be surprised if any of them are still good at all just from what I’ve seen you leave that switch on :/ - is it always making white smoke at idle or only cold? White is either coolant or fuel (smells like sweet coolant, burns your eyes and smells like fuel it’s fuel lol😂)

      @@steinfabgarage or if the factory bits really are pooched, just get a momentary instead of a toggle. lol and you don’t need to go full huff the exhaust mode ;) a quick whiff will do. Raw fuel smell could be a loooot of things, including bad timing... Coolant is pretty much just the head gasket. My 6.9 powered ford has the same fuel return system, it’s a big pain for getting air in it and causing hard starts. I honestly don’t know a lot about those Perkins engines…but some can run, poorly, with the timing 180* out, the IP timed exactly opposite, and that causes a lot of raw fuel in the exhaust.

    • @OverKillPlusOne
      @OverKillPlusOne 2 дні тому

      But you get similar symptoms when it’s too advanced or too retarded… basically not getting good ignition because it’s not injecting when the cylinder pressure and thus air is hot enough.

    Just out of curiosity why do you use 80 grit sandpaper? Seems like everyone online is using 200-320 grit with this method. Is there any chance 80 grit will leave too rough of a surface?

    • @steinfabgarage
      @steinfabgarage 3 дні тому

      Because 80 leaves the gaskets a surface to “hold” on to. It’s the same theory as why port and polish is good for airflow, but bad for fuel atomization. Sometimes rougher is better

      @@steinfabgarage trying to go from memory I was in college it was 2004ish. I got a check engine light and running rough or it stalled. We towed it to the local Toyota dealer and they fixed something that was under 200. I picked it up from the dealer and rough running motor and check engine light again within a day or so. Had towed back to dealer. They fixed an issue for 5 or 600. Then as I was leaving the Toyota dealer parking lot the check engine light came on again and it started running rough and died. We had towed to a Lexus mechanic my parents used in town and they said timing belt bad and replaced it and never had issues again. Until I totaled it about a year later driving into deep water playing around after hurricane Ivan and it was a total loss to insurance. Water over roof. This was a 1998 3.4 v6 Tacoma. I can check for paper work now that I’m curious when I visit my parents around Thanksgiving. I still have the stuff from that truck. Enjoy looking back at how cheap stuff was. Toyota dealer oil change 29 bucks. I wouldn’t trust most Toyota dealers now from experiences. My FL one is terrible.
