    Blimey, how do these kitchen fitters get away with it? Well done on sorting that mess out.

    Also agree with you on the use of flex for ovens. As usual though, reg 521.9.3 says you should then says you don't always have too>

    That connection at the start of this video was typical of the work I have seen done by some of our friends from Eastern Europe or Asia? Not all just some some. If you want to go for cheap and not have to pay a fully qualified electrician with experience behind them, that’s what you get!

    Why do kitchen fitters do electrics, I've been a joiner 35years , i can't remember how many kitchens I've fitted but i can remember how many I've done the electrics on NONE.
    I'll only fit a kitchen if it's a dry fit, no plumbing or sparking, if i bring the other trades in i quite often end up doing their donkey work , chopping chases and drilling through for access but thats my limit, every man to his trade.
    For the extra money these kitchen fitters make by doing the electrics, to me it's not worth the grief and mither plus they can't sign nothing off.

    Wow that looked like a horror show... Well done, I think I would have walked away and not want anything to do with that unless it was a rewire as god knows what else the muppet kitchen fitter has done... Bet he is accredited by a CPS as a domestic installer as well. This is why only electricians should do electrical work...

      Cheers Steve. I've seen some horrendous work over the years but that taped 6mm connection hidden behind the oven and the CCU are probably in the top 5. I don't know whether or not that kitchen fitter is CPS accredited, but it makes you wonder what other horrors are out there and how some people sleep at night.

    In 1995 my mate ran a kitchen supply business and told me that a good fitter was worth a thousand pounds a week. I saw many a nightmare like this!

    Name and shame and report the kitchen fitter for the dangerous work that he/she should never have touched

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      Part of me wanted to and the other part not. I never saw the fitter on site and the client didn't say who it was. In the end I did my job and left it at that

    Can I put a spur on my cooker socket ,the spur is for my cooker hood.

      It's certainly not best practice, but if you follow the Regs on distance, cable size and OCPD etc you could. I'm not quoting what those are because if you're an electrician you'll already know

    Where can you get the long drill bits please

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      I get the 400-1000mm long masonry SDS bits from Screwfix or CEF. Plenty on Amazon too. Spend a bit more for decent quality. For the 260 long bits I use the Bosch Multimaterial bits that are blue

    6mm down to 2.5 in a junction box 🤦‍♂️ take the 6mm to the fused spur for the hob. I haven't done electrical installations for 20 years and wouldn't do that. Maybe the fuse on the 6mm is 20amp so could be ok, but still....

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому +3

      Regs state change of cable size to be fused down within 3m of junction Alex. Hob spur was less than 1m away with a 3A fuse. Therefore it's impossible to overload the 2.5mm leg. I could have used 1mm according to regs. 6mm to a 3A FCU is a bit OTT, but it's a valid alternative. We all have our methods and if mine is contrary to the regs I will hold my hands up 👍

    Nice one mate 👍 new sub 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I’m hoping to retrain as a sparky, so hopefully will find your videos really helpful, don’t worry I’m not going down the over night qualified sparky saga.and I understand I would never be upto scratch with a time served sparky but I actually want to learn and understand it all ..which I know there is a lot 😂😅 I’m just trying to find out which courses and qualifications I actually need to be a domestic installer or “an electrician” cheers mate will keep on watching the vids 🙌🏻🙌🏻

      Thanks mate. I'm a bit out of the loop on the qualification process and there are no quick and easy ways that I know of to become a certified electrician. 2-3 years at college, pass exams, get work experience or apprenticeship, then pass 18th Edition as the final hurdle. Best bet is to either phone NICEIC or Napit and ask advice or speak to local colleges and skills centres. Good luck on the journey 👍

      @@abcelectric thanks, I'll try it out, if it works it'll be a game changer.... no lifting floors or opening up ceilings.

    • @abcelectric
      @abcelectric  2 роки тому

      That's exactly why I got it Ray. Theoretically it'll drill between up to 3 joists @ 400 centres if everything lands right, but the drill bit is really sharp so unless you can get a Ferret WiFi cam in to check or are 100% guaranteed there are no pipes or cables in between it'd be a bit risky to just plough straight through. 👍

    Quote for kitchen installation:
    Installation of units worktops and appliances £900 4 -5 days
    Electrical work £600 2 half days if they turn up then don't clean up after job is finished or plaster up chases as it's the kitchen installers job.
