I first went to Athens Greece in 1970, I remember staying in a hostel on the roof, it was so hot in the day, but I loved it, no Air Con in those days, it was in August and I met so many other young people while I was there, great memories. Greece became very hip, as in July 1967, the Beatles spent sometime there, John Lennon went many times to Greece, they considered buying a Greek island for awhile 😊
I really loved your video cause you saw Athens with the " traveller eyes" , a lot of people just say that is dirty but they don't t focus on the soul of the city.
The white drink was the famous ouzo and the church at the end is the Metropolis of Athens! That was the very central Athens, which is quite commercial and touristic. There are so many other places that are fantastic like neighborhoods in the north suburbs like Kifisia, Kefalari, Marousi, Penteli or others in the south with lots of green that have great pedestrianized squares with fountains and full of restaurants and cafes like Nea Smyrni and Glyfada. Nice places to visit are Mikrolimano, Niarchos cultural centre, marina Floisvou, and the whole seaside up to Sounio (Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Lagonisi, Anavysos etc). Thank you so much for the presentation! Really great as simple as an amateur, but very very nice! ... Please continue with the Islands where the big blue of Aegean Sea reaches over the skies of Hellas. This land is holy full of history.
11:09 exactly! Αγορά (agora) is the place of birth of the direct democracy, where every citizen got to decide for public affairs in person and not via representatives. Also that fruit in 14:09 is the famous lotus fruit that according to Odyssey, if you eat it you forget about your homeland 😧

Was a cool surprise for us too. We came here just thinking about the islands really so it was nice to see Athens has many nice places all next to each other. Really liked the 2 neighborhoods that we explored 👌
Greece is among our favorite places. Santorini is spectacular, and the sunsets are amazing. Nearby is Oia which is smaller than Santorini but equally beautiful. Mykonos have the windmills and Little Venice. Also went to Rhodes, Crete and Naxos...I wish someday if we ever get a chance to go back that we will visit Santorini again :) Keep on travelling Chris and Carole, you truly are an inspiration...big hugs!
This was a really cool video to watch as the roles were reversed for once. You were following steps I took not so long ago rather than I following your steps through a new country! The sunset at Philapoppus hill was amazing I hope you manage to see this if you revisit,
Greece is one of my all time faves! You guys are gonna LOVE Santorini. Was there last year in July and it was pretty chill because COVID. Prob more people now but still such a beautiful island and videos and pictures will not do it justice. Gonna love following you guys around Greece :)
Another great video guys, Athens looks beautiful, some very pretty neighbourhoods you guys explored! The Acropolis looks amazing (great that they had English information!) Find it hard to fathom that the Parthenon can be that old... can't wrap my head around it!
My daughter and son n law got married in Santorini five years ago! Very beautiful! We also visited Athens! It was interesting but I was very surprised with all the graffiti! Looking forward to your next video!
If you guys are still in Greece, you shouldn't miss Meteora. It's one of the most amazing places i've ever been at par with Cappadocia in Turkey. There are many affordable tour packages that operates from Athens such as Keytours. It was a great experience. Also you guys can do a day trip to Hydra from Athens. So beautiful in there.
You need to spend about three months to see all of Greece's "nice" places... So many things to do and explore! One visit is not enough. The museum's are another way to get lost in the old civilization of the place! And the couzine is delicious with influence from East and West! I wish I was there with you guys... Keep well!
love it guys! went to the phillipines after watching ur videos and going to greece soon! love how u make ur videos. gives you a true feel of the places you go. Thanks for doin these
Great video, enjoy. Been all over world, Greece one of my faves. Dollar goes LONG way there. Parthenon is most famous structure of antiquity and was robbed by British ambassador where you can now see those things in Londons National Gallery.
The "Elgin Marbles" were stolen from the Parthenon by Lord Elgin and now are exhibited in the London Museum. I guess that Lord Elgin felt entitled and really liked them enough to loot them and take them home. Have heard that the Greek Government justifiably wants their National Treasure back.
Elgin stole the marbles when the Greeks were under Turkish occupation. So, the enslaved Greeks had unfortunately no power to defend their legacy. This comes to remind us how the strong can force himself on the weak. It's a serious political issue. At least for us Greeks.🙏
I did. Santorini is amazing and a bit expensive. Rhodes old town is beautiful. Kos is also nice. I enjoyed the capital of Crete Herakleion. I loved Corfu, I visited it just before the pandemic. Can't wait to see what you both think of Santorini. Love your editing skills. 👍😊
The second video I watch on your channel. Impressed. Nice to hear from young educated, intelligent, and nice-looking people! Graffiti is disgusting but an indication that they have a lot of social and educational issues to resolve. Grandpa's opinion. 😊
Hi guys.......in case you are near any of the following areas , I can suggest looking into these beaches (which are all also located near places of interest other than beach experience): Simos Beach on Elafonisos island in the Southern Pelopennese; Balos Beach and Elafonissi Beach in Western Crete; Fakistra Beach and Milopotamos Beach on the Pelion Peninsula; Porto Katsiki Beach and Egremni Beach on Lefkada island; the beaches of Kefalonia and Zakynthos islands; rent boats to go around the coastlines of Paxos and Antipaxos islands near the main island of Corfu. I DO NOT suggest Mykonos as it is ridiculously expensive compared to the, actually, more beautiful islands of Paros and Naxos (and also nearby quiet Koufonisia)--I can suggest these much more than Mykonos; the unique beaches of volcanic Milos island (like Sarakiniko and Firiplaka); for a tranquil/calm and very Greek experience the islands of Amorgos and Folegandros may be of interest; also, for a 'green' island experience, Skiathos (many sandy beaches) and Skopelos (wild beaches) islands are very beautiful.......cheers!!
I have been following your channel for a while. So happy to see you visiting my old country! I hope you get to visit the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion ❤️
Though interesting to watch and visit, I can't help but to think about how all of these ancient civilizations were once prophesied to become exactly what they are now. Ruins and rubble. Amazing
Carol was right, this was the authentic greek yogurt, it *is* supposed to be that thick, the stuff they sell outside of Greece has nothing to do with the authentic greek yogurt.
When it comes to Europe, my favorite country is actually Italy for the cities. But for the islands, I can't beat the Greek Islands. I'll never say they're better than Tropical Islands because you can't compare the two. Like the Philippines or Hawaii, I love that for paradise. For Greece, I love for the feeling of ancient History :-)) All of that graffiti really bothered me though....oh and I love Moussaka!! I had that everyday I was in Athens lol :-)))
We need to check out Italy 👍 we think Greece is going to be our favorite beach destination in Europe for sure, because it’s islands as you mentioned. Islands always have a better vibe than mainland places we find 😁
Glad you enjoyed the islands! Which one did you visit? May I suggest a few? Santorini with the beautiful sunsets, the white little houses and the unique beaches, and the volcano. Of course Mykonos for a lifestyle/clubbing experience, with expensive restaurants and such. But there are numerous other islands that are not that crumpled with people during summer, and equally as beautiful! Like Paros and Naxos islands, near Mykonos and Santorini. Also, Ios and Kos islands. You also must definitely check out Rhodes, with the castles, and the island of Crete, which is the biggest island of Greece, is a must. It is the birthplace of the Minoan civilization, and a part of the palace is still saved on the archeological site of Knossos! And Crete has everything!
Thanks Chris & Carol, your video brought back nice memories of a trip I made to Greece over 30 years ago. I also went to Santorini and I look forward to your video about that place as well.
Athens is quite amazing and has grown up from the literal ruins after being almost totally empty for a thousand years! BTW, no one is sure whether the city is named for the Greek goddess called Athena or vice versa but Athena was the goddess of wisdom, strategic warfare, fine arts. .. and the city of Athens so they always had Nike the goddess of victory depicted next to her so they could say that since Athena was their patron goddess and she was the goddess of strategic warfare with victory by HER side, the Athenians couldn't lose! LOL The Agora was also the marketplace while the Acropolis was the literal high city or holy city. Another great video and I hope you have fun in the islands!
@@wardarcade7452 what exact time period is that 1000 years you refer to? Acropolis was not a city or as you refer to it a “holy city”. It was more what you would call a sanctuary, both for the mind and the body, people would go there to relax, pray to Gods but also when sick. Greeks believed illnesses that manifest on your body are also impacted by the state of your soul (your psychology), thus you need to treat both to heal the patient. For example, when you say you are melancholic, Ippocratis believed your gall would produce a dark fluid that impacted your metal state, that’s why when you are melancholic in Greek in you say I have my blacks instead of the common I have my blues. That’s what melancholic means, nothing poetic, just blackish gall fluid
@@annas4843 Until Athens became the capitol of the newly formed nation of Greece in the 1800's, large portions of the Classical city had been abandoned and in ruins . I didn't mean that the acropolis was a literal city during the Classical times but the name does mean 'high city' and since it was where the most important structures and statues of worship were located, it was the more spiritual area of the city whereas the agora was the commercial center. .
@@wardarcade7452 it was not abandoned, maybe you have not learned in your history class why the columns are cut… while Greece was enslaved under Ottoman Turks they cut the columns in pieces to take the metal that was inside for bullets, that columns you see there in pieces are result of that act of barbarism. During that time the Parthenon was used as the harem of the Sultan. Columns of the temple of Zeus were used by the ottomans to build the small mosque at the monastiraki square. Ottomans also used Acropolis to store their weapons and explosives (yes they stored explosives on next to an ancient temple), at the end of 1600 when Mozorini a Venetian attacked Athens the Turks used Acropolis as an outpost and Mozoroni didn’t hesitate and exploded the roof top of Parthenon during the conflict. And ofc let’s not forget that the Turks sign a contract allowing British Elgin to cut any piece he wanted and transport it back to England which now is displayed in the British museum and Brits refuse to return them to Greece. Athens was never abandoned, Acropolis was never abandoned, from the Persians to the Ottomans to the Nazis, what you might see as ruins we see as the marks of our history, Acropolis has been burned, bombed, used as whorehouse, but it has managed to stand there reminding all Athenians we keep standing no matter what difficulties and what marks history has left one us.
Chris&Carol, winter season, from Nov to May, on every first Sunday of the month, entrance in acropolis is free., but you came summer season…, shout-out!…😊🇵🇭
I hope you enjoy your travels! I’m an Athens local and visit the islands during the summer. In fact I’m in one atm. You can get the best view of Athens from different roof gardens in the center . Also don’t forget to visit lycabettus hill! Enjoy
Wow, you have got us really excited about visiting Athens, we love that you love the history of it too! The prices though are going to be a bit of a shock to the system from where we are in Albania right now. We got a punnet of strawberries today for less than a Euro! Those kitchen lights were pretty random too! Looking forward to seeing more of your Greece adventures!
We just spoke with a couple here in Greece that mentioned Albania to us, they did say it’s way cheaper than Greece and Greece is already considered affordable for Europe. They also said the beaches are quite similar too. How much is accommodation there and an average meal at a restaurant?
Fantastic video. I said to my wife at the beginning of the video Carolina was going to have big trouble with the Greeks thinking she is Greek. You'll have less trouble in Santorini where most everyone is a tourist. I think Carolina is the most universal looking woman. She looks like she can be from nearly anywhere.
About the ticket there is an online service which you can skip all the queues in the 7 top Archaeological sites of Athens at the price of about 29 or 30 Euros. This ticket is valid for 5 days. All these monuments are in walking distance of each other so you can visit them easily in 3 or even 4 days.
Hey there, yeah we saw that option at the ticket offices too for $30 but forgot to mention it in this video. We ended up not getting it as we only had one day exploring Athens although I guess you could still visit multiple archeological sites even in one day anyway
Guys you make me proud fir your nice words about my country! By the way why didn't you try souvlaki? In monastiraki square there are two famous souvlaki stores. Oh, fyi I don't think you would have been able to rent a place in Plaka. Most buildings there are officially preserved and not for hire. So don't have any regrets! There are hotels in the area though. The great thing about Parthenon is the way it's built, which fools the eye and appears slender and pulsating with Its plasticity so it doesn't look bulky. Architectural illusions, which is awesome since they were realised 2,5 thousands years ago!🤷
My only surprise is that you did not visit Lycabettus Hill or see the spectacular changing of the guard at the Parliament building. Perhaps on your return from the islands. This brought back great memories. Thank you. Roger
Your videos make me dream and I live those dreams through you. I so love what you've decided to do with your lives, so responsibly. The yellow fruit is a loquat, or 'nêspera' in Portuguese; one of my faves when they're sweet. Enjoy living!
They are elm trees and it's a citrus fruit which is bitter we don't eat it but they make a Greek delight with sugar. it's not an orange tree there are all over At hens. Enjoy your stay go toVouliagmeni beach for swimming you will love it.
Maybe its a different kind of tree than an elm tree? i searched elm tree and fruit and couldn't find anything. Elm trees apparently produce a kind of seed called samaras that doesnt look like these
Loved this! I was a teenager backpacking in 1990 all around Europe. Athens was busy but definitely there wasn’t so much graffiti even in the not so nice areas. Can’t wait to see Santorini. We took the slow ferry there and first stayed at a hut at Perissa Beach for $3 per night. Later moved to a bedroom at a private home in Oia for $4 per night but you could only get water for 2 hours per day. It was very simple then. I know it’s more luxxx now. I hope you checked out Akrotiri. Greece is one place I want to return to with my son. I actually inadvertently brought a lizard back to California from Greece in my backpack. And it was in there for 2 days in London. I opened my backpack upon arriving in CA and out jumped a big lizard from Santorini. I had no idea!
You might have been the only person with a Greek lizard for a pet in the US haha. Wow it’s crazy you could get prices like that back then, It’s definitely changed a lot!
Another funny memory from Greece was that we arrived in Patras by ferry from Bari, Italy. We stayed in Patras at a hostel for a few days and there was a pretty decent earthquake! But being from California it didn’t really freak us out.

The best time to visit Greece is off season for less crowds and better prices. May, September, October, etc. Awesome country!
The drink was the famous OUZO, made with mastiche also, which gives it a great taste - mastiche is only grown in one part of Chios, in Greece.

Enjoyed this close-up walk around the town. Looking forward to the Islands!
💯
My daughter and son n law got married in Santorini five years ago! Very beautiful! We also visited Athens! It was interesting but I was very surprised with all the graffiti! Looking forward to your next video!
Hi guys I'm dimitri.. I lived in America for 48 years.. And now I'm living Athens for 7 years.. I hope you enjoyed Greece...
It’s so fascinating show structures like acropolis were built. Great stuff!!! Olives are amazing, I love em🫒…haha!!!
You guys make the BEST travel videos. Looking forward to seeing the Greek Islands.
Btw, Carol looks Greek to me. Italian too.
Yeah she could Probably pass as both 😁 vids coming from the islands next 👍
Finally you came !!! Enjoy our country...is paradise !!!
Thanks for doin these
Your videos of the Middle East have opened my eyes. Jordan and Lebanon have been added to my bucket list. Thank you!
100% recommend those two countries!
It's actually the BRITISH MUSEUM, not National Gallery
Elgin stole the marbles when the Greeks were under Turkish occupation. So, the enslaved Greeks had unfortunately no power to defend their legacy. This comes to remind us how the strong can force himself on the weak. It's a serious political issue. At least for us Greeks.🙏
Greece is beautiful! Nice video! ✅
Looks stunning! We hope you visit some of the other Islands too. Great filming and narrative so again thankyou.
7:55 that looks so amazing
I have been to Athens twice. It's a cool historical City. Enjoying your videos.👍😊
Cool! Did you visit some islands too?
Enjoyed seeing another historical place. Athens is popular so is very crowded. Food looks yummy.
The second video I watch on your channel. Impressed. Nice to hear from young educated, intelligent, and nice-looking people! Graffiti is disgusting but an indication that they have a lot of social and educational issues to resolve. Grandpa's opinion. 😊
Hi guys.......in case you are near any of the following areas , I can suggest looking into these beaches (which are all also located near places of interest other than beach experience): Simos Beach on Elafonisos island in the Southern Pelopennese; Balos Beach and Elafonissi Beach in Western Crete; Fakistra Beach and Milopotamos Beach on the Pelion Peninsula;
Porto Katsiki Beach and Egremni Beach on Lefkada island; the beaches of Kefalonia and Zakynthos islands; rent boats to go around the coastlines of Paxos and Antipaxos islands near the main island of Corfu.
Fun fact in summer especially during August is the best season to visit Athens cause it's empty! Way less crowded than this time of season!
Thank you for telling the history and cultural info!! It really adds to your wonderful videos!!! Love from Vermont
Welcome you must visit Larissa central Greece named the city of coffee because has more than 1600 shops to relax 😀😀
The disco lights and music in the kitchen...love it!! Very cute dancing with it...lol
Visiting Athens, Santorini,Paros and Mykonos in mid. July. Can’t wait.
We so enjoy watching your videos. But I wanted to say that all the music you include is so enjoyable. Keep it coming travelers!!
Great presentation from my country. Thank you. All the best!
Amazing
a flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens, Greece, and is one of the principal shopping districts in Athens.
Bangladesh....... Like.... Ilove.......... Veautiful.... Welcome... 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💖💖💜💜💜💙💙💙♥️♥️♥️💗💗💗💗💘💘💘💘🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩
Another one to add to my vocabulary…”YOGURTY”. Love it👌🏾Carol hair looks very Amazonia and very Beanie-Yogurty! Bellissima👌🏾
Best regards from the UK.
😂😂😂 thanks!
Amazing video👍 keep it up. Ciao from italy🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Great video guys. Can't wait to see the Greek Islands 😍 safe travels
Greece is beautiful 👍
Carol was right, this was the authentic greek yogurt, it *is* supposed to be that thick, the stuff they sell outside of Greece has nothing to do with the authentic greek yogurt.
I love that authentic Greek yogurt with Greek thyme honey on it.
Amazing islands 👍
Greek beaches and waters are unbeatable.
As greek and Italian guy i highly recommend in Italy to go in Sardegna.
LOL
The Agora was also the marketplace while the Acropolis was the literal high city or holy city. Another great video and I hope you have fun in the islands!
Interesting 👍
@@TRAVOH Glad you liked that one! There's history EVERYwhere if you know where to look!
Chris&Carol, winter season, from Nov to May, on every first Sunday of the month, entrance in acropolis is free., but you came summer season…, shout-out!…😊🇵🇭
The fruit you ate is called mousmoulo and you usually peel it before you eat it. It's really tasty...😛😜
The fruit that you tried is Eriobotrya japonica and here we call it μούσμουλα :mousnoula.
Anna Vretou, another name is Loquat, one of my favourite fruits, when they are sweet. My parents had a tree in their yard, in Portugal.
Wow, awesome post of Greece. It’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing your wonderful day. Disco dancing while cooking. Thanks again….enjoy and have fun.
Go to Santorini for the best sunsets. And then to Mykonos for the parties. 😎
Yeh especially in South America and the Middle East, they always think she’s a local almost anywhere in those places.
@@JumpingPlaces It's funny because you BOTH look Greek so your experience makes total sense.
You guys are fallowing me, I’m now in Belgrade Serbia cool city.
Soooo cool ! The views are amazing and your editing skills are great !:)
Your selection of music is always fabulous! Well done my friends!
One of the things to do in Santorini is do the hike from Fira to Oía. Then stay in Oía for the sunset and take the bus back to Fira.
That’s exactly what we did 😁 video of that coming soon
They are elm trees and it's a citrus fruit which is bitter we don't eat it but they make a Greek delight with sugar. it's not an orange tree there are all over At hens. Enjoy your stay go toVouliagmeni beach for swimming you will love it.
Maybe its a different kind of tree than an elm tree? i searched elm tree and fruit and couldn't find anything. Elm trees apparently produce a kind of seed called samaras that doesnt look like these
I searched more about the trees in athens and they are called bitter orange
Well at least the lizard came to place with a similar climate
Another funny memory from Greece was that we arrived in Patras by ferry from Bari, Italy. We stayed in Patras at a hostel for a few days and there was a pretty decent earthquake! But being from California it didn’t really freak us out.
My daughter and I were to go to Greece when COVID hit, so going to enjoy all your videos from there 😁
