Absolutely beautifully done, and with a different method used to other posters on UA-cam! I am so grateful for not only the clip but also the subtitles. I am Deaf and spend a lot of my time looking for instructions online on how to use my weaving implements - this was perfect. Thanks again! :)
You made this So extremely Clear & Easy to understand. I'm a hands-on learner, so It's Not easy to learn from videos, but yours made it So easy! Thank you!!
I just bought your same french knitter and found this video. Super clear images, and easy to understand even if English is not my first language! The pace is great and the video is a perfect lenght to be able to come back and check when I got stuck. Thanks to you now I know how to do it! Super grateful.
Lots of French knitting tutorials show how to get started but not how to finish! Thank you for making a video that finishes as well as it starts. You have a well structured video with excellent sound clarity and pictures well lit and in focus. Your pace is perfect. Thank you.
thank you Jennifer for showing us how to use a French knitter.. As a child we did this in the 50's the only thing is we used a wooden spool and for finishing nails I never knew it was called a French knitter I think I'll start making my cords like this because I have crocheted them but this would actually be a little more Unified thanks again for showing us your video💖💖
Thank you so much! I have a DIY French knitter which my grandmother made for me when I was a child (wooden spool with 4 nails sticking out), I had forgotten how to use it. Now all I need is some yarn :)
Thank you for making it easy for us. Our French knitter came with instructions, but was hard to follow. I found your tutorial clear to follow. Thumbs up!
How does the size of the loom affect the resulting product? I have something at home that I think is a French knitting spool, but it has around 20 pegs. I'm guessing it's only suitable for large projects like rugs. Also, what are people's experienced with travelling with one? I know I can't take knitting needles or crochet hooks in my carry-on, and I'm guessing I'd want to pad a plastic spool quite well to prevent breakage in transit.
Mirabelle Dartigen The last time I was on a plane, I was allowed to take small scissors with blades that are less than 3 inches long, as well as my crochet hooks. Knitting needles as well are allowed, the last I checked. I don't see you having any trouble traveling with this since it's obviously not something that can be used as a weapon, and as long as the tool you use to lift the loops off the hook is like a knitting needle or blunt tapestry needle and your scissors are short, you will have no problem flying with this. I hope this helps! There's places online as well as apps that tell you what's allowed and not allowed in carry on nowadays.
Kenny Cakes Huh, the airport I went through must have been on alert or something then! They confiscated my nail scissors (well under a 3" blade) and a 4mm steel crochet hook, but not an 8mm bamboo one (in another part of the bag). They let the little knitting loom through though, I guess because it didn't look enough like a weapon. (I normally use a very small crochet hook - 2 or 3mm - to lift the loops, but the only one I could get at the time was a 4mm. I find they're easier to use than needles, and the steel ones have a better hook.) The carry on rules seem to vary quite a lot from country to country.
Mirabelle Dartigen Plastic needles and hooks are okay with US airport security (just ask nicely) as of 2/2017. A plastic French knitter is almost indestructible, no worries and airline safe. Bon Voyage!
Thanks for the video. It was vert helpful. I wanted to know how to make a multicolored eye thread. Do I tie on a different color at the end of the first and keep going?
MKGIRL24 hi there MKGIRL :) So in my experience & what is said in tuts & online is you just tie a double knot with your new colour to the old & then when the knot comes up you can manipulate that particular loop over so that the knot goes inside. I have done this many times, & I have flawless results. Also I believe their are plenty of videos showing this, and ones that show how to join different cords. So theoretically you could (once you've watched a tut on grafting) make cords in different colours & graft them together. But for me, the easiest way is to just knot the next thread to the old. Hope that's helps hon. Good luck👍😊
MKGIRL24 omg!!? You go gurrrrl!!! 👏 Good on you!!! Great to hear that .. pushes me & I realise oh yeah I'm not the only one obsessed with these things 😂👌🤗
This did not help me at all I kept messing up and I was to stressed out I didn’t know how to like start it so that was the part what I got stressed at and I just wanted to rip my house up 😂 but yours looked nice
Tysm! I just got a brand new set! And had no idea how to use it or what it does it braids it which I rlly cool I had no one else for me to get help from I could get help from my auntie but she is far away and barley remembers and I had this thing it looked like a castle 😅 I had no idea what it was until u showed me it's a French knit braid tysm!!! Thank you for the short informative video. Plus you don't have huge nails - I don't know why some crafters/ crocheters/ knitters are so obssessed with long painted claws. It's a torture to watch them struggling to show whatever they want to show.
Just saw an attractive backpack made of natural wool on-line and it was embellished with an i-cord like this tacked down into a celtic knot. It really was a beautiful finishing touch.

Thanks! I've not circle knitted in over 50 years and have some time to retire, so this is quite nice tutorial. :)
Thank you. As a child I made yards of this but never knew how to finish it off! My dad made my "knitter" using an old wooden cotton reel and 4 tacks.
Mine too 😂😂😂😂

My grandad made me one exactly the same when I was 4 years old. I used to make little toy snakes out of it :)
I’ve had one of these for years just didn’t know how to use it, got it out today to learn your instructions were very understandable. Thanks.

I grew up in in the 70's known as a tom boy. My mum showed me this but in them days we used a wooden bobbin with a 6" nail.
