Your playing has dramatically improved! I used to watch religiously back in 2019, I have been watching again since the big sub boost and... wow! Greetings from India
I agree. I had a fuzz pedal with a built in gate a few years ago as my main dirtbox.....when I stopped playing it was dead quiet and just so much easier to use, especially in live situations.
Holy Shit Glenn!! Your Playing has improved drastically!! It would be really helpful if you shared some of those excercises that you you've been doing!!
@@rk28984 same with Monolord. Always have the hm2 buzz and beef at max, even if thomas is using a clone of one. I loved that feedback in the playing at the beginning, made me think of some of his stuff live
KMA kicks ass, haven't even heard the pedal yet. I have the Tyler Splitter for my bass pedalboard and it is fucking fantastic being able to route my actual bass through a different chain than my upper mids distortion.
It is fucking awesome with a bass!! It's the gnarliest tone I've ever had! Crushing, sludgy, gut busting tone but (more important for guitar but still dope) you can still dial it in so your notes are distinct and not just a wall of sound... ... I go with the wall of sound approach but just saying...
dude that jam sesh at the end there sounded fucking awesome. Who knew that a YT channel dedicated to mixing heavy music could sound so fucking good ? 🤣😂 Sounded stellar thru my setup. Greetings from Oz and NZ 🎸🤘
Glenn, just want to say that your playing got so much better over the years and that is pretty cool to see and hear! Also the Guardion of the Wurm sounds very cool in the mix, way better than 99% of modern productions.
Every Noise gate with an fx loop works the same way. You want the amp in the fx loop. So on the pedal fx send->front of amp, Fx send of amp --> Fx return of pedal, pedal send --> FX return on amp. It's not difficult to do just inconvenient for cables.
This pedal sounds awesome, the 4 band EQ means it can sound nothing like a HM2 in a good way while also getting that chainsaw tone, the biggest issue with the original HM2 was that they EQ doesn't really sound good until its super aggressive. The grind but with a warmer less high mid focused eq curve sounds like it'd be awesome for doom and more alternative rock influenced heavy music (heavy psych, desert rock etc).
KMA is my favorite pedal builder ever. Thank you for the sweet video, however you missed the most important detail regarding anything hm-2 oriented. That is everything dined. If anyone doesn’t know about KMA the Wurm was my first but a tamer yet beyond amazing product Enrico makes is the Cirrus. Enrico is so amazing that he offered to repair my, unkown to me at the time was my own stupid error, broken Wurm for only the shipping costs. When I realized it was my error I supported by buying another one and more of his pedals because he is amazing, still answers emails himself and makes incredible pedals. I’m a lifer for KMA products. Best pedal builder I’ve come across yet. These are my thoughts and they are my own, if you disagree google “ image of a dictionary inside of a moron”, then you will find your true form.
Loved the sound in the full mix at the end. Song was great too, those exercises Glen has been doing have been really paying off. That playing was brilliant
the reason the HM-2 is so great, is that it chainsaws and it has good mid and low(ish) gain tones. This seems solely geared toward metal. I like the different modes, since a lot of us use the HM-2 to blend the chainsaw EQ with other distortion but that blend control is a whole different level. Overall this seems really cool and versatile but a trade off for ease of setup. Remember the more time spent messing with pedals is less time spent playing and getting anything done. Love the HM-2 love that's been happening lately and how much pedal companies have stepped up since the waza craft HM-2 came out.
I have a Boss NS-2, and understand the wiring a bit better. On the NS-2 gate, it's... Guitar -> all effects before the gate -> Pedal Input Pedal FX Send -> Amp Input Amp FX Send -> pedal FX Return Pedal Output -> all effects after the gate (ESPECIALLY Delays and Reverbs; only a bass player would gate those effects) -> Amp FX Return
Holy shit, never been this early, been watching for years! Just got the Cockblocker plug in, saves my ears from my handicapped fingers. Better than I ever thought it would be!
The squeal is part of the iconic sound of the original haha, I've got three of these style of pedals, an Eyemaster (just cause) a Behringer HM300 and a 1984 Boss HM-2, was a HUGE fan of that stuff years ago, kind of having a rekindled love of the sound at the moment, so much more inspiring than a lot of the modern sounds these days.
Damn, this thing looks powerfully versatile. I'm ordering one as soon they release! Gate seems to work great. I wouldn't even dial in the chainsaw tone often, though it would be fun to expand my palette and write a couple songs with that tone. I feel I could dial some awesome fuzzy yet clear distorted tones with this, and way more. I imagine a ts driving this could sound great also
I kept saying "disgusting" as you were dialing in tones, and that's about the best compliment I can pay a distortion pedal haha. Cranking that H-MID slider makes such a nasty ripped speaker grind that just drives me wild....I'd totally deal with the squealing for that tone. This thing is a beast, well done demo sir!
Well Glenn, you are giving guitarist and bassists a run for their money. Your improvement is a testament of what actual practice can make for you. NO ONE can have an excuse of sucking in the studio now.
Jesus H. Christopher KMA killed it with the design, can't every pedal look like that??? Then I won't have to repaint all of them... And the sound is to match, waiting on that bass demo though! I often record guitars but I am a drummer bassist at heart ;)
Is this super fuzz based? Sounds a bit like my Idiotbox Dungeon Master which is the super fuzz with the HM-2s EQ EDIT: Upon second listen, I don't think it is. Still pretty cool to have an hm-2 that's usable not dimed
my first thought was fuzz pedal for bass guitar. I am not super familiar with the HM-2 though. shoutout to Idiotbox, I'm running the Blackout Double Fuzz on my bass rig.
The HM-2 can get pretty big muff like, it's a blend of soft clipping, hard clipping and crossover distortion, it really is a freak of nature circuit wise, it can do fuzz in the right circumstances, the eq section is a powerful thing on that pedal, you can go from big muff to proco rat style with just a slight tweak, it's definitely more than just a chainsaw haha.
That sounds perfect for a good Death/Doom blend, but also perfectly versatile for any other genres. One could even use it in Blues Rock stuff, though maybe not Glam Metal. But the sounds and utilities are awesome. The price, however, is quite salty. But I guess it matches the product.
Daaaamn that's a ripping mix/tone, leaves lots of space for some powerful vocals to just sit on top there. Also has a really good rhythm to it, you can really knock the demos out of the park these days with your guitar playing!
Damn Glenn, you’re playing has gotten much tighter in the last year. Good job! I can’t wait for your secret shred video to come out :) Keep it up dude!
I'd love to hear this pedal on bass, with the blend turned up so you don't lose any low end. I can't find any videos on it so I guess I'll just have to buy it and let you guys know how it goes..
Idk sounds like they made it more traditional/typical imo the point of the hm-2 is to not stay in that beaten to death realm. Sounds like a great alternative but for me the flaws of the original is where the magic is, I don't want it to be more pretty
I thought you were getting ready to bust out Albatross by Corrosion of Conformity in the beginning! Definitely has that mid-to-late 90s COC sound. I'm really digging it!
I think this has kind of the same thing going on as the ISP Decimator II G-String Noise Gate. The way to plug it correctly is to have your guitar going into the pedal's main input, then the pedal's FX loop that goes to your gain pedals, then the amp's main input, then to the amp's fx loop out, then back to the noise gate. Then the main output of the noise gate goes to back to the amp. With this kind of setup, your gate will reduce the noise coming from 1: The guitar, 2: Any and all gain pedals, 3: the amplifiers preamp.
Oh that is the sound of modern metal, and I HATED just as modern Metal. But yeah it's a good pedal for sure it's possible to activate a pretty good tone with this pedal, just less noisy distortion, but yeah that is the point huh haha And yeah Glenn nice playing!
I'm not sure about this one, I love my HM-2, don't use it as much as I use too, but I find this might have too many adjustments and could end up screwing up your sound instead. Maybe it's just me, and I run 2-3 amps simultaneously lol. Just different for me I guess because trying to get a pedal to sit with 3 different amps at the same time is a challenge lol. I still love my MXR Zakk Wylde overdrive and my Boss Super overdrive (sd1).
At first I thought it sounded completely atrocious. Then as the video went on I found more to like. That ability to mix it with you amp drive sound is pretty crushing.
if theres anything that Josh Scott of JHS has taught me, if a pedal has sliders it's immediately better
Yuh
However the best HM2s had neither sliders nor pots, they had jumper leads!
Absolutely
Your playing has dramatically improved! I used to watch religiously back in 2019, I have been watching again since the big sub boost and... wow! Greetings from India
"Oh shit this is actually kinda hard" - Glenn, presumably
EVERY dirt pedal should have a built-in gate now. It's a great feature, and precludes the need to consume more board space.
I agree. I had a fuzz pedal with a built in gate a few years ago as my main dirtbox.....when I stopped playing it was dead quiet and just so much easier to use, especially in live situations.
Holy Shit Glenn!! Your Playing has improved drastically!!
It would be really helpful if you shared some of those excercises that you you've been doing!!
this would sound really good for a doom metal type of track with that very THICC tone
Yeah I immediately thought of Sleep
Exactly. Very much in the style of Matt Pike's tone
Would be great for Monolord or maybe Conan, as far as I know Jon from Conan used a HM2 in the past.
@@rk28984 same with Monolord. Always have the hm2 buzz and beef at max, even if thomas is using a clone of one. I loved that feedback in the playing at the beginning, made me think of some of his stuff live
Now combine it with the hm2 and the metal zone
Lol.
Dude, can tell how much you've improved playing just by seeing how your digits are controlling the strings. Solid.
sounds great. when you hear the HM2 whistling tone on a pedal that has a blend knob on it, you know you've struck gold.
KMA kicks ass, haven't even heard the pedal yet. I have the Tyler Splitter for my bass pedalboard and it is fucking fantastic being able to route my actual bass through a different chain than my upper mids distortion.
Now that's what I want to have in my pedalboard.
Man all that guitar practice paid off in a big way Glenn, really makes the demos for this kinda thing alot better imo!
Great sounding pedal. KMA seems to put out some awesome stuff. The dirt channel on that Soldano amp is a thing of beauty!
Sounds like it would be good for a "High On Fire" type of tone.
I'll bet it sounds wicked with a bass
It does - demo soon :)
It is fucking awesome with a bass!! It's the gnarliest tone I've ever had! Crushing, sludgy, gut busting tone but (more important for guitar but still dope) you can still dial it in so your notes are distinct and not just a wall of sound...

Sounds like High on Fire. Design looks great. I almost regret preordering that HM-2 Waza.
I actually just asked the store to transfer my HM-2w preorder money to this one 🙊
Glenn, just want to say that your playing got so much better over the years and that is pretty cool to see and hear!
Also the Guardion of the Wurm sounds very cool in the mix, way better than 99% of modern productions.
Got some serious Subrosa vibes off that intro tone. Very nice

I've found that on my HM2 if you put a buffer in front of it, it gets rid of the squeal
the reason the HM-2 is so great, is that it chainsaws and it has good mid and low(ish) gain tones. This seems solely geared toward metal. Hey Glenn, I just have to say; I love how you fearlessly review products and say how it is. Finally someone willing to spit the fucking truth!!
so good to see you play glenn some killer riffs there
Sick pedal and sick playing! Keep up the great work.

I need this.

All pedals should come with a blend mode!
Glenn, thanks for the video, I love the guitar. Great color!
Nice sound, It got close to the old At The Gates SOTS tone there in that full mix.
Sounds like a fuzzy doom/drone pedal to me. And that's a good thing.
It feeds back at 11 but it sounds so good at 11 !!!!!!!!
My toes just turned green and curled up from that tone. Thanks Glenn!
The band mix sounded fantastic
Awesome video 🥰
Wow thats amazing pedal! Got my mij hm-2 but that blend and eq is great!
I kept saying "disgusting" as you were dialing in tones, and that's about the best compliment I can pay a distortion pedal haha. Cranking that H-MID slider makes such a nasty ripped speaker grind that just drives me wild....I'd totally deal with the squealing for that tone.

Finally, been waiting on Glenn to do chainsaw guitars! Awesome
The custom eqing you did at the end sounds killer!!!🤘
That tone at around the 11 minute mark. 🤘🤘🤘
Sounding amazing Glen. Can't wait till you get to those sick solos I know you will get there with the way that you're progressing
Hey glen, your playing has improved lad. I can tell you've been practicing. Top work
That guitar is a BEAUTIFUL colour dude!!
Damn. That full mix is fucking ferocious. Nicely done Glen.
Well Glenn, you are giving guitarist and bassists a run for their money. Your improvement is a testament of what actual practice can make for you. NO ONE can have an excuse of sucking in the studio now.
Well looks like I know what my next pedal purchase will be. I’m a sucker for hm-2 type distortions. Great review!
real Nice Glen thanks for the ad
Damn Glenn, you fuckin kill it on guitar. Quit being so modest, you rock.
🤘😎 hell yeah, Glenn's rocking out.
"Ive walked for miles inside this pit of danger!" type tone, fucking brilliant.
Glenn’s use of double tracked bass guitars in his mixes is pretty cool tbh
That guitar is sooo nice!!
I have to agree with the section, tasty jam man! Great pedal and well done in the mix. I was entertained
Why wire it up so weird? Just plow it straight into the front of the AMP. Sounds amazing!
Nice, I got the Wurm and its fun times.
Jesus H. Christopher KMA killed it with the design, can't every pedal look like that??? Then I won't have to repaint all of them...

Damn! Great galloping, Glenn! Loved that mix example. 👍🏻🤘🏻
Hey KMA ! I just said that because it rhymes. I'll bet you could get some killer harmonics on it. Seems like a killer boost as well !
Damn, that was cool seeing you play in the full mix! Killer riff, cheers!
Very cool pedal and some sick ass riffs, Glenn! \m/
Your video edits are gettin really good Glenn. I’ll check the pedal out!
Solid rhythm technique Glenn! Great demo!

David Gilmore has used an HM2 for some of his lead tones since the 90s.
Opening tone sounded like Corrosion of Conformity, Albatross.
Dig it.
1:09 The moment you raised the volume she was screaming. My eyes almost popped out of my head. :)
Glen I think it's about time you wrote us a record
That tone rolled one and smoked it. Fuckin yes!

It sounds like Glenn really wanted to demo this pedal himself. So he put in Overtime to get his guitar playing up to speed.
Idk sounds like they made it more traditional/typical imo the point of the hm-2 is to not stay in that beaten to death realm. Sounds like a great alternative but for me the flaws of the original is where the magic is, I don't want it to be more pretty
Shit, after watching this its obvious that the pedal will make anyone’s guitar playing sound good.
Thanks, you a-hole!

I tried to find the manual on their website, but don't see it.
Very interested in this pedal 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Holy f. Sick! Gotta get one.
This pedal is literally the HM2 plus every other pedal I'd use to shape it to my liking,
Also, have you ever considered using an over the top distortion/fuzz with a clean boost? Good for getting a cleaned up, hi-gain type of tone.
Oh that is the sound of modern metal, and I HATED just as modern Metal. But yeah it's a good pedal for sure it's possible to activate a pretty good tone with this pedal, just less noisy distortion, but yeah that is the point huh haha And yeah Glenn nice playing!
Switching to the clean tone after that intro was unintentionally hilarious
Definitely a good Doom Metal tone.
@12:50 new SMG theme song…sick Glenn
The full mix has got a Killer Be Killed, Wings Of Feather And Wax vibe going on
I'm not sure about this one, I love my HM-2, don't use it as much as I use too, but I find this might have too many adjustments and could end up screwing up your sound instead. Glenn!!!!! Ive been getting similar sounds with my Schecter SM C-8 and a Rat 2 after a DS-1. it's been beefy to say the least.
Not sure how much I like how it sounds, but damn it looks great !!!
nice axe, Glenn :) also the chugging was enjoyable
whoa, sounds like Battlescar. love it!
At first I thought it sounded completely atrocious. Then as the video went on I found more to like. That ability to mix it with you amp drive sound is pretty crushing.
Sounds more like a fuzz to me? But I love it either way and it looks nice too!
The idea is very good, but I think they made a pretty straight forward pedal into something a little more complicated then it should be
