    Bioshock. When you're in an empty room, nobody around, you looking around the stuff, you realize how creepy it truly is.

    • @liateRdnalkcoB
      @liateRdnalkcoB 9 років тому +12

      +spencer davis The game had creepy moments that went unexplained. Not just the ghost images (which were memory imprints from reused ADAM you use), but you'd witness things occasionally which were just... eerie, weird, strange... And then move on.

    • @theonegoldengryphon
      @theonegoldengryphon 9 років тому +10

      +spencer davis Agreed. When I was younger, and my dad bought Bioshock, I tried playing it because my dad was playing it so much, and I'm a little copycat :P
      Needless to say, playing that game, in the dark, alone, as a 10-year-old probably wasn't a good idea. Think I should try picking it up again? Maybe now that I'm older, and possibly more mature and more likely not to wet myself, I'll be able to play it no problem! :D

      Shadow phoenix One time, a grenader splicer shot a grenade under a passing Little Sister and somehow managed to ragdoll her up against the ceiling. I thought the physics somehow managed to kill her, but she got up after like 10 seconds...

      +spencer davis I know right,what also makes it even more creepier is the story that goes along with the atmosphere,hell even some of the audio logs even add a bit more depth to it,it's a well crafted game

    Postal 2, while not an inherently scary or unnerving game, got under my skin because of just how far I went while playing it.
    It showed me that, when given too much freedom, I would some pretty fucked up shit in a game. I got so caught up in that I _could_ that I didn't stop to think that I _should._ The game didn't offend me, far from it, it probably gave me one of the most profound moments of self-introspection that I've ever had from a game. It showed me that I could be appalled at my own actions in a game, which before that I didn't think was possible.

    • @restinpeas1284
      @restinpeas1284 8 років тому +4

      Carl von Linné You know, I couldn't say. It's a game meant to be a tongue-in-cheek dark humor kind of experience. Some people find it hilarious, it's got some good real world references in it and some funny moments-- if you don't have a problem with potentially, for instance, lighting people on fire and hearing their pained screams, even down to if they survive it and they crawl on the ground crying for help... then it's an all right game, probably pretty good if you stop yourself short of doing really really sadistic things just on the principal that you CAN. It's usually $9.99 on Steam, and considering that the dev has largely still supported the game, I'd say maybe

      That's pretty brutal. Just like the freedom thanks to anonymity in 4 chan, which leads to the most disturbing stuff ever. Or the freedom to do stuff in most open world games.
      Freedom to do stuff can lead to insanity though. Having no borders is scary, but more to oneself.

    White Night. It gave me the very similar feeling that Amnesia did. Hope you'll have a chance to cover it sometime soon. Absolutely great, especially with the haunted mansion and audio-visuals.
    Also, Daylight was pretty nice, yet, I feel, underestimated because of the similarity (slight) of gameplay with the shitty slender games. The sound design and visuals in this were amazing.

    • @vixxcelacea2778
      @vixxcelacea2778 3 роки тому +1

      I think saying "under my skin" means that it sticks around for a while. Making skin crawl is more like gross things, things that make you think that there are bugs or something. Under your skin means it's still there, it seeped into your realization.

  • @plumcrazysomers

      I've always known it as both. So many people know it one way or another and I don't quite get it. They're like "Well here in the U.K. it's..." and so on. What is odd that people claiming to live here in the U.K. have heard it to mean either one but not the other.

    Portal 2, while probably my favorite video game, is really creepy to me. I've never been so amused and spooked at the same time. You are being forced to solve puzzles for a being you have no power to fight. Everything you do is being watched by someone who hates you. Glados can kill you at any moment if she likes. Then you go to the bottom of the facility where everything is rotting and falling apart. This and you get to listen to the recordings of a man who is slowly going insane.

      Precisely. SOMA was akin to looking through a microscope at never before discovered specimens that shouldn't exist biologically. You are intrigued most of the time, but every so often you find a specimen that looks exactly like your naked grandmother. You then flee in terror.

    • @Wandergirl108

      +Shockwave SOMA was scary until you realized that there was no point in trying to evade the monsters because you're already dead and letting the disgusting excuse for existence you're in get destroyed would be the best possible thing to do. Then you have no reason to not run up to the monsters and let them eradicate you instead of trying to move forward - hell, you WANT the monsters to kill you, it'd be better than continuing.

    Tomb Raider I is definately my No.1 pick.
    To quote 2013 Caddy: _"Does this game have a soundtrack? Yes it does, but only when it needs it. The lack of a constant underlying score makes the game more involving with the player. Combine that with the ever present foreboding darkness in the distance and you get one HELL of a sweet atmosphere, and sometimes even damn creepy."_
    That game had such an influence on my childhood. Especially the Atlantis levels, where (and i don't know if this is actually in the game or was just my PS1) sometimes, a short low buzz can be heared, breaking the silence. That noise really got under my skin, especially when playing in the dead of the night.

    What actually got under my skin in Lone Survivor is, that whenever you hit the map key, the dude says "Who needs maps?" making the map you have completely useless, since he just won't look at it.

    Ahhhhh I agree completely with you on Myst, I found that entire game unsettling. Penumbra and Sunless Sea also tend to make my skin crawl.
