Yeah its funny, you can still play it today if you go to an arcade. You have to go to the sort by version button, and choose "3rd mix" scroll down and you will find it.
Yeah the monsters in SH1 are mostly based around Alyssa and her fears and experiences. The town whipping up things based on the protag was pretty much a SH2 thing.
They come from essentially nightmares. So SH1 is Alessa's nightmare; she'd been suffering a nightmare for seven years before Cheryl showed up and once she did it basically exploded the nightmare open onto the town. SH2 is mostly James, but you do see bits of Angela's and Eddie's nightmares. SH3 I always personally concluded it to be Heather, but many say is Claudia's, though really I think either in the case of that story works. SH4 was Walter.... And then it pretty much dies after that and becomes a purgatory because the writers got lazy and just started copying SH2 all the time.
SH 3's is supposed to be Heather's / Alessa's as far as I've heard. Nothing really points it to being Claudia's, though I guess we never learn too much about Claudia personally except that she was friends will Alessa and had a bad home life.
I mean if you get the good ending you get to fight a giant baphomet demon and run off with the baby version of the third game's protagonist. Which is, of course, slightly more climactic.
The bad ending is actually fascinating and its because of a little after credits scene. It shows a dead Harry inside the crashed jeep from the beginning of the game which basically means reality breaking down and hellish abominations taking over everything is actually your mind deteriorating as you slowly die. This ending is even hinted at in game about halfway through. When waking in the otherworld antique store, Harry has a thought that maybe all this is inside his head while his actual body is in a hospital bed. And it's because of that hint that made me feel this was the canonical ending. At least it would be until sequels were created and the good+ ending became the canonical ending. And I always thought the bad ending was a direct reference to the movie Jacob's ladder. It has a very similar ending.
i just finished this game tonight and got the bad ending. right now my theory is that everything is centered around harry's dying mind, like you said. which ending you get seems to depend on whether you save cybil and/or kaufmann, "save" being the key word. if you failed to save anyone, you see harry dead in the car, which i interpret as harry being sent back to reality, where he wounded/killed three people along with himself - his actions in silent hill determine whether he chooses to convince himself that he's a savior. the other endings, which you get from saving the npcs, show harry remaining in the reality of silent hill, perhaps choosing to embrace the delusion. that's my interpretation, but i feel like you could shoot it down by arguing that alessa's fairly extensive subplot/backstory kinda overwrites harry's since it's so elaborate and the symbolic imagery (of the school, hospital, and especially nowhere) fits so much more neatly with her than harry, but then again you could probably argue that harry's minded created all of that to keep up the delusion (plus there are some imprints that i feel must belong to harry, like the wheelchair which you see a few times throughout the game, and you see cybil and cheryl, two potential car crash victims, sitting in them right before you fight them). it's really hard to say since there's so much evidence for both lol. i know you commented 3 years ago but i just needed to spew out my thoughts somewhere haha
11:39 Fun Fact, in the American version of the game, the school had a different enemy. In the NA release, the enemies were the Grey Children, which were obviously creepy monster-like children armed with knives (they are also the first enemies that Harry funs into during the beginning in the alley). They were changed to Mumblers in the European and Japanese releases because in those countries censors rejected the child-like creatures as TOO child-like, while American censors thought that there was a difference and that players would be able to distinguish them apart.
If anything, I’m surprised they did that, considering Columbine unfortunately happened that same year. So them allowing Harry to shoot children-ish creatures in a school is something I found surprising. Granted, it released a few months before Columbine unfortunately happened, but I’m surprised they didn’t censor them more in the Greatest Hits edition. It may be a stretch, but I’m just thinking.

In SH Shattered Memories you also confront your own fears. But mainly it analyzes the main character's family relationships. It's really twisted and interesting.
I always loved the map system in the Silent Hill series, how the protagonist would use an actual city or building map and make pen marks to update corridors and such. It added an extra layer of immersion.
That moment near the end when you see Alessa in a wheelchair, wrapped in bandages will always put me on edge, especially when you know what happened to her as a child.

11:20 Not exactly true. In a book "lost memories" it explains that all the monsters in the original game WERE symbolic. But they were not reflections of Harry's nightmares but Alessa's. If you do some reading in it, it'll all make sense. Not a big sin to make this mistake though, fantastic video!
This is what survivor horror should be not jump scare, hide in a locker, run away dumb shit like outcast. These kinda survivor horror games are infinitely more fun and fighting back is scarier due to the fact you control your character’s fate not the AI of the enemies
The biggest problem I had with the first game specifically is that it doesn't know whether to reward you or punish you for exploring. Right before entering Midwich, you can get assaulted by 4-5 Screamers if you decide to explore the streets nearby, and I could swear those guys have increased health. This is on an area that leads to a dead end. Then again, a few minutes prior you could get about a dozen Health Drinks and a few Medkits just by running around, provided you could manage the monsters.
You have to do Christmas games in December? I never even thought of that. Just do whatever games you want, man. There are hardly any Christmas games worth playing anyway.

Also the American Boxart has a weird differense between the letters themselves, it reads like "SILL LENTHI" Does that mean anything? Oo
Thank you for being a good youtuber this year. Seems silly but, you are one of the few youtubers I still enjoy watching. A lot changed this year and a lot of youtubers seemed to be forced to change their content. I feel I should tell the youtubers I enjoy that their content is great because they've been some of my primary forms of entertainment this year even if they may or may not see the comment. Happy holidays man. Keep up the great content.

Not exactly true. In a book "lost memories" it explains that all the monsters in the original game WERE symbolic. But they were not reflections of Harry's nightmares but Alessa's. If you do some reading in it, it'll all make sense.
Not a big sin to make this mistake though, fantastic video!
I fucking hated that random cry in the toilet... That and the courtyard in the school was the scariest thing in it
>Random
13:08 is Super Tuesday as Good as Toilet Duck?
I was waiting the whole video for that Classic Silent Hill Jingle from your Top Ten Snow Levels video, and it was glorious
Give meh that PlayStation Christmas sweater you.... NIPLE
CADDY, Playstation are remastering Medievil for the PS4.
cool
I'm so happy
FUCKING YES !
Thank you for the news !
How do you know?
I've been waiting for this.
The town of Silent Hill in the first entry isnt a manifestation of your personal fears, it's all being made through the fears of Alessa
You have to do Christmas games in December? I never even thought of that. Just do whatever games you want, man. There are hardly any Christmas games worth playing anyway.
Batman Arkham origins.
What about Elfen Bowling? That's a Christmas game.
Woah this video was made exactly 2 years ago. Merry early Christmas!
P.T. makes my T.T.'s flee the C.T.!
I've finished SH1 about 22 times, and I love it till this day.
I want to see a full ‘Super Tuesday’ song.
I love going back and watching your old videos again.

Not Tomorrow has become one of my favorite works of music, it's one of the songs I'll jump to listen to when I'm feeling certain ways.
I mean it's no Silent Hill 2
but what a game
Lol yeah I can play silent hill 2 over and over again but this game? I got the bad ending, then I replayed and got the good ending, then never touched it again. Great game, would never play again.
10:22 But Caddy, the tin man IS a woodsman
Gotta love corporate higherups, shun anything fresh or daring, but the second it gets popular they milk it for all it’s worth
14:11
Fun Fact : Did you know that the most superstitious and hellish number of Japanese folklore is 4?
So yeah, that makes things a little more eerie.
4:00 As an American, I can confirm we are, Caddy. XD
With that ending statement of the final boss being pathetic "no matter what path you take", makes me wonder if he ever even played the good ending.
Poor kitty.
All hail the great Locker Cat. He will be remembered for all time.
2:35 Thank you for sharing that golden moment caddy sill boi
Aw makes me miss Jordan's reviews
Famous last words
Hey dog what you doin on the window sill
Aside from the boxart, did you know that the PAL version is censored? as those “nobmunchers” were replaced with mole rat like creatures. I have no idea how you were playing the American version even though you’re British & you clearly own the PAL copy. Are you using an Emulator or something?
The christmas sweater is giving me mix emotions. I NEED IT
US boxart usually tends to be really rough compared to their EU and JP counterparts.
Oh my God, Caddy posted a video on Silent Hill on my actual friggin birthday! Sorry but YEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!! Happy friggin birthday to me, indeed. YOU remember to stay beautiful, Caddy.
where the hell is Jordan, I bet he's around here somewhere
Robbie had the same idea
He's using puppets to recreate silent hill probably
Good question...
Robbie
He's probably gonna show up when Caddy reviews SH2, it's his favorite in the series after all.
Funny thing I picked up silent hill one for Christmas this year so this video is just what I was hopping for a video on it this Christmas. Literally couldn't have picked a better time if you tried!
hope you do a review of Crash Twinsanity!
CrashFan00 funny, I’m doing something of that kind the video is saving rn
Well not to the great Caddy’s style, but in a style of say a let’s play mixed with a rant, mixed with a review all in one

WH250398 I realized that after awhile lol I just got excited seeing that name, then I thought to myself “oh, crap! Why did I just do that?”
F U N F A K T
Every once in a while I wish Caddy would do the Tombi video he kept promising back in the day but it's such an important game I'd be scared in case he felt he couldn't do it justice, this intro is good advice for a lot of creators.
