    At 44, Chad initially didn't think vanlife was for him, but after designing his own, he fell in love with it. He travels full-time in his 2022 Mercedes Sprinter 170" extended 4x4 named Althea. Working from the road can be challenging, but Chad has customized his van to include a desk that's exceptionally comfortable for spending hours in front of his computer.
    Both front seats swivel, making the living area versatile and comfortable. The kitchen has a fridge, dedicated freezer, induction stovetop, and residential sink. Chad has also included a full shower with an Air Head composting toilet for added convenience on the road.
    He's also added a garage with a significant purpose - plenty of storage for winter sports gear and the capability of holding nine Yeti containers on 500 lb drawer slides! The rooftop is valuable real estate, and Chad enjoys the possible views as a photographer. He has a massive setup on the roof, which even includes more storage up there.

    I really like his van… but, more than that, I like his honesty and his explanations of how he planned and thought out his decisions to join this lifestyle. And, of course, the grandest thing is to hear him say he’s happy & has no regrets. 👌

    Totally cool! Longmont Colorado. I watch enough of these videos to know that I am interested in the lifestyle. Admittedly afraid, but I am 67 years old and retired. My children would perform for me to go to an old age home, whatever they call it. I threw a fit about assisted living. Oh no mom, that's not what we meant. Just a graceful step, a retirement community. No I still have my wits about me. How to unload all of my possessions? That is the question. But what I'm seeing here is the perfect opportunity, Longmont Colorado, come rescue me

    shoes were housed under my bed

      Of course he doesn't. He has the money to put into batteries and make everything run off electric.

    • @segundacuenta726
      @segundacuenta726 Рік тому

      @@TheBrandonn Actually an instant pot or induction stove used sparingly doesnt consume much. With the whole roof covered in solar panels one wouldnt need too many expensive batteries. Much safer and efficient to have everything electric, but it is more expensive upfront yes than gas. Also it depends on how many people and how often they take a shower or how much AC is used (those 2 things are what really consume a lot, not the cooking). Also some people like to use generators for things like oven (electric), washing and drying clothes (heat consumes a lot of energy) and some others stuff. So they use the generator once a week or every few days, since panels alone wouldn't cover those things.
      Still if one has the money, one can have enought lithium batteries and no solar panels, and charge once or twice a week and potentially the batteries would last "decades".

    Perfect except for the plumbing in the center of the sink cabinet because you chose a sink with a center drain? You could have at least made a 90 degree turn directly under the sink and run the plumbing to the side, but I cannot see if your grey tank is directly under the sink or elsewhere because you did not show us.

      Lots of emission problems with the clean idol diesel fuel oh and don’t forget you have to add DEF That’s diesel exhaust fluid. It cost big money to get these vans serviced when you have problems and you will. It’s quite insane. You have to take them unless you have a mechanic that can work on it or Mercedes-Benz otherwise and have work done. I’ve heard many stories with the Mercedes-Benz sprinter vans to get oil changes in intervals of service costing 1500 $$$ plus. The government and the EPA with all this clean idle bullshit made the diesel vehicles downright horrible and expensive to work on just a little FYI on diesel vehicles.

    • @newera4k333
      @newera4k333 Рік тому +2

      @Robert M I own the 2019 diesel sprinter. I agree the def is annoying and an issue. I have heard that you can do a def delete and it will significantly improve vehicle engine life as well as cost. I would argue that the plastic jugs and def chemical production is worse for the environment than the regular diesel exhaust would be lol. But otherwise no issue with our van. We do our own maintenance. The oil change couldn't be an easier task. It is one bolt.

    when I make my van, I'm not using the side door. I'm using the front passenger door as my entry point and have a sliding door that leads to the back so no one can see anything because ive parked in the city and let me tell you people are mean you park just to sleep on the side street where is public parking they called the cops to have me move. I parked around midnight to not bother anyone quietly I turn off my van went to sleep soon as I started to relax the cops knocked on my door to make me move and the cops were nice enough to tell me where to go
    it was during pandemic had just started a job no money coming in so to save the last of my money decided to live in my van
    people like those will one day meet their karma

    way pass the age of 50,60,70,and 80's. Van life is no longer for just the young of age as you stated in your video.

      I'm not sure it's arrogance. He just happens to have lived solo style.... no wife,ex, kids. Obviously had a life plan, goals and job that provided income to suit his needs. Can't stress that enough to kids growing up. Parents teaching their kids responsibility: financial and personal are the gold star ones. Letting kids fail, not bailing them out every time they make a mistake results in kids who learn to get up, s😢start over, communicate with others, and not blame others for their failures. Mommy and Daddy parents who fix, buy every solution so little Billy or Sally's feeling aren't hurt are killing their kids chance for success. Those who grow up with few material things often are the ones who learn to work their asses off to succeed. Good luck to those kids. That hard work is what results in self esteem, success, happiness....not teaching kids to blame others for failures and deficiences. Good luck young people. May you be lucky to have the "Right Stuff" parents and the fortitude to get up after falling, start over.
