Damn Chad...from conception to the final product, the van is damn impressive. The fact that you have the superb video editing and story telling skills to relay it all is just next level.
Man. You're the luckiest man in Earth. Do you know how many thing would I change from your beast??? Exactly. ZERO. You deserve it. Share your adventures with us.
I’m so freaking stoked for your Sprinter Van. Those off-road modifications and those big beautiful tires make all the difference. I can’t wait to see a full on break down of the exterior and interior of your new Sprinter Van. I know you vloged pretty much the entire Van build but I’d still love to see an in-depth break down of the vehicle. I also can’t wait to see all the new adventures you’ll be going on with your new lean mean off-roading machine!
God bless you in all of your Journey Chad. I'm literally in tears seeing your growth from Vanagon to a Sprinter. Thank you for sharing your travels with us. I may not see those places in this lifetime but your videos makes us feel like we're there too.
The only opening that i want to hear right now is ' Hey Guys, this is Chad from living the van life youtube channel and we are here in the snowy mountains of wilderness'..
the only one on youtube i keep waiting for him to drop a video... now it's time to hit the road and show us the beauty of north Washington during this spring
Hi I think it’s absolutely amazing your van my name is Billy I’m a wild camper in Scotland I have a 29 foot motorhome six wheels four tons and I’m thinking of doing a sprinter four-wheel-drive great ideas you give me keep on posting brother and keep the camping going wild is the way
Thank you for sharing the series of videos showing us the transformation of your Mercedes Sprinter to a world wide journey vehicle. We cant wait to travel along with you on your fantastic, life inspiring adventures. Chad, your Living The Van Life channel is amazing!!!
Saving up money as we speak for a van / truck to get into this. Haven’t stopped watching your videos and other videos for the last 6 months. Gonna be a while until I can afford one, but I can’t wait.
Holy crap I was like "i recognize this guy" ... Used to watch you when you had way less subs, so stoked to see you're OVER 500k!!! Hell yea brother, awesome van, glad to have found you again.
I think this is the moment for you the best off all the VAN build !💯 I’m really happy for you ! You’re the best and you deserve it ! My friend stay safe and healthy !👍👍👍💯💯
I absolutely loved how you scripted the opening of this video. This could easily have been a boring (to me) vid about van gears and car parts, but the personal stories you opened with, coupled with the always superb filming and editing you did, and then tying the contents of the video back to the "why" behind the mods you did--to seek adventures --captured my attention from start to finish.
Wow what a van your videos are just awesome. I couldn't sleep this morning so I went on u tube and come across one of your videos. totally chilled me out thankyou for your hard work.
The van pushes my buttons. WTG! One rarely sees the extended side panels but I feel they are a good addition. I believe Wings and Wheels have them in their Sprinter and sleep crosswise. What a dream come true for you!!
I was very happy when you were able to shop for a brand new van and proud when you choose Mercedes. I owned quite a few of them and they are my favorite cars. Congratulations on completing the build and such an awesome result. Cannot wait for all the content to come. Stay safe outhere Chad!
I was watching the behind the scenes video you did. That's some hard work buddy. Now when I see a shot of the van flying down the highway I think he's gotta stop and go back and collect the camera now. It hits me how much actual running you must do. No wonder you get a decent meal you've earned it. Sadly some of the fantastic foods you use I can't find in the UK. Wish I was back in Montana now.
Awesome! Its like a Life Size Tonka Truck or Military Tank the way it takes the back country. Can't wait to see the finished inside, another one of your yummy meals, & where you go next.
Absolutely the best informative video of doing a suspension mod to a Sprinter. I have a '20 Winnebago Revel, and have had such a hard time justifying the whole thing. Now I know what I want to do. Awesome vid, and thanks!
before vanlife became popular, it was about freedom, travel, minimal inexpensive living now it seems to be about people building vans & flexing about their fancy, expensive, complicated rigs
Any thoughts on adding a snorkel kit? Looks awesome and I can't wait to see what's next! Thank you for all you do and the inspiration to get out there and explore!
Hi CHAD, very glad to see you back for new adventures. Although, your old VW is still my favorite, your awesome new van will give you plenty of new possibilities. In a hurry to review a "camp and cooking". Patrick from France.
Love the videos. I’ve been over landing in my Jeep Gladiator for several years. As I approach retirement, I have a decision to make on a 144 or 170. I will be keeping my Gladiator to reach those areas that only a fully capable 4x4 can go. Mostly I am solo in my Gladiator. I have young grandchildren that approaching the age I can start taking trips with them. I’ve decided to go with a modular system from Adventure Wagon and a pop top so I can sleep and travel with 4 people comfortably, or 6 with a little bit of modularity. 90% of the time I’ll be alone, but out for 30 days or more at a time, towing my Can Am. My plan is store the can am and trailer around the country while I’m cruising around and don’t need it. I have a full understanding of what I can expect with the capabilities of a van. My rig will have AWD and rear lockers with an Agile Suspension. Sooooo. With your experiences now fully documented, do you believe the 170 would be to big of a vehicle for what you are doing 90% of the time. Thx for any input
Chad, the photo of you and your tackle box made me smile. I have one like it since I was about the same age as you in the picture. 50 years+/- later, I still have it! I'm from So. Az., were those photos in the Gila? Once again, great video! Love the music! Flawless transformation. Awesome van!
Hi Scotty. Thanks for the kind words. Funny you should mention the Gila! That’s exactly where we were. The first pick would have been up at Willow Creek in the Gila. The pics with the tackle box and fishing were up at the Catwalks near Glenwood NM. Cheers my friend.
I've got an extended 170 4x4. It was priced too low to pass up. But it's too long to be a candidate for the offroad stuff you've done. The rear end extends about 5' beyond the axle & the long wheelbase wouldn't benefit much from a lift kit either. But, the interior is huge. It's a full 16' from the driver's seat to the back doors! Although it can't get too far off the beaten path, there's room under the bed for my Zodiac & 20 hp outboard and I haul a dual-sport moto on the rear, which seems like a good compromise to me. I'd guess my toys are a good bit less expensive than an offroad kit for the van, so that's good too. I'm enjoying seeing what you've done with your van. Thanks for taking the time to document & share it with us.
Whoa! That's an adventure machine as well, Glenn- Plenty of overloading roads out that that won't require the shorter wheel-base, but it is something you'll want to be cognizant of. Got all the toys loaded-up and ready for some exploring. Best of luck to you and Happy Trails! Cheers!
looks good, good to see you ready to getting back on the road and having some envious adventures! Everytime I saw a Sprinter on the road in WA I kept looking to see if it was you now you will be immediately reconizable!
Bro.. great gawdam videos! Your production from cinematography to audio is outstanding! ... Makes for a great watch... Look'n forward to some adventures in that badass van... Bravo!
Chad I like that lift on your sprinter van and I thought the van setting outside was yours with the different colors on it and your van looks outstanding and they a beautiful job on lifting your van
Van looks like a beast now. Happy for you you got some more power added with the beast. Huge respect for you Chad this is what we call self made can't wait more for the videos by the this one was not less than a movie. Good work thanks for you I enjoyed your video as well as my dinner love from India pray for us we are in very serious trouble of second wave of covid in India.
Chad, I am really excited for you and the new van! I am in the planning stage and may need to get a hold of you for tips and advice. We have all come a long way Brother!
While I'm not much of a fan of sprinter vans, I will say yours is shaping up to look pretty damn good. Looking forward to your future adventures in that thing. Cheers!
Van is ready. You are ready. We are ready. Let the adventures begin!

So legit Chad. The van, the video, the progress made. Chapter 2 begins. p.s. kudos to the crew over at Van Compass.

So excited to have you back Chad! Van looks like exactly what you need to bring your adventures to the next level!

I was not expecting you to build your van to this extreme. Quite the off-road vehice when complete.
I am happy for you!! That Van is AWESOME!! I look forward to seeing where you take us!!
Chad, did you make changes in programing, add a chip or change gears to adjust for 35" tires?
Great question! I would like to know as well.
Can’t wait to start my sprinter build. This is exactly what I have in mind. That winch bumper is so sexy
loving the discovery channel style documentary to this; reminds me of when i used to watch fast and loud and stuff like that, awesome dude
