They are government/city ‘affordable housing projects’ for low/middle income people OR for people who are displaced from their homes due to new development projects. Some of houses are not fully finished as you saw it, and it’s the responsibility of the people who got a chance to live there. Don’t get the impression that they are 🆓. They have to save money for the down payments and they link them for the balance with banks 🏦. Those houses are the ‘’Addis Ababa Dream” for significant portion of the population. They simply call them - condominium. You can see them in every direction of the city 🏙️

Awesome Ethiopia and its friendly people.. This is like a sequel after the one you and Feti did yesterday. There's government low income housing which is free here in South Africa as well. It has been so even during the time of apartheid. There is also a government old age grant of just over $100/month per person. Many of our African brothers and sisters get surprised when they find out about it.. Power generation (electricity) is by nature very expensive everywhere. I am not surprised by power outages or the lack of it in Ethiopia. It happens here as well, perhaps not to the same degree.. I am glad I've learnt that Addis Ababa can be cold and wet and that some basic Amharic will help. Thanks again for a wonderful video..

    Hi Andisnyandoa
You are asking why parts of ethiopia have power shortages almost all day yet they supply power to kenya ,south sudan and Djibouti I will really appreciate.
The answer is, lack of electricity in Ethiopia is not because of lack of electricity but because of old and outdated transmission and electric line that you connect them the lines over the earth pole and that break with wind or other issues.
Currently, Ethiopia is in the process of building a new modern European standard transmission and electrical line to be laid underground. such type of electric line solve the problem of electric shortage in the country as soon as possible.

Ethiopia has started to rent electricity to Kenya, South Sudan, Djibouti and the other African countries due to the fact that the Blue Nile Dam will be ready in one to two years.
When that dam is done, Ethiopia can have more electricity than the country needs and therefore Ethiopia thought to rent electricity to several countries in Africa.
Ethiopia also builds several Dams in several parts of the country. The country not only builds dams, but they also build wind power, geoterminal, etc. when they start producing electricity, it is sufficient in several African countries.

Long ago my neighborhood was called Shegole Meda Rufael. It is in the northwest of Addis, a beautiful place and a beautiful old town, and I don't know anything about this place called Ayat. The host said he was grateful for the facilities and said electricity and telecommunications had not yet been installed but were still under construction.

Addis Ababa's management project is very huge. for those who buy house, Addis city administration under the 20/80 or 40/60scheme. Which is the eligible applicants or buyers would pay for construction cost and the city administration would provide the land. The buyers have to pay 20 percent upfront in case of 20/80 and 40 percent።
The Ethiopian government gives house free for elderly women who cannot manage themselves and for those whose homes have been demolished due to the development corridor to build the road acros the city like piasa and other areas።

The condominium houses built for low income households develop by Addis city administration under the 20/80 or 40/60scheme. Which is the eligible applicants or buyers would pay for construction cost and the city administration would provide the land. The buyers have to pay 20 percent upfront in case of 20/80 and 40 percent upfront in case of 40/60. The buyer would pay remaining cost in 20 years in both cases. When the project initially started the cost of the 20/80 housing unit was 7,997.17 birr per square meter, but now over 45,000 birr a square meter. The current construction cost is high that why the city administration can't fully complete and delivered to the users.

I think you are misinformed and spreading something far cry from TRUTH. Those houses have been built by innocent civillians who paid 80% up front and the remaining 20% as credit which they make payment once they moved in, at least legally. HOWEVER, those apartments have been taken from the owners to be people by the so called (pp/oromuma/gala) "government," specifically from the owners of the apartments who are Amharas and Tigray ethnics. There is no rule of law in Ethiopia and looks like your videos are tried to recover the already rotten " government" images in the name of vlog.
We know the so called Ethiopian "government" hired UA-camrs and blogers just to spread such unfounded Truth on the ground. If you are bowing to this criminals in Addis Ababa, you will be given one of those apartments. The real owners are displaced and sleeping in the street, just because they are Amharas, who are the 90% contributors of the Nation building of Ethiopia thousands years ago. The Oromo, invaded Ethiopia in the late 16th century by anexing almost 28 endemic tribes who are lost now. I prefer, first hand, please do a blog iby travelling to Northern Kenya, where this incompetent squads in Addis Ababa planning to take Northern Kenya, in the name of "oromo tribe's" land. Thanks!
