That statue is not for the downfall of durg. It's built for Ethiopian and Cuban armies who gave their life in the Ogaden war. It's called Tegelachen Monument.

what's your take on the side walks in Addis? I heard they're now digging to expand them. There is construction all over but I think the side walks are badly maintained and neglected. Trees planted on the side walks are cracking up the tiles. There are manholes dug everywhere without warning signs. But the city is developing rapidly and there will be at least 10 skyscrapers as high as CBE built in the financial parts(mini wallstreet) near La gare in the coming few years. Do you've go pro? with that you can be more discreet and show us full bodies when recording instead of the ground.
I agree, the side walks are badly maintained. In some parts of the city, proper side walks are non-existent. We’ll get there though 😊. No, I don’t have a go pro.

The Ethio-Cuban memorial is to commemorate the victory of Ethiopia during the Ethio-Somali war of 1969. Ziad Barre of Somalia occupied the Ogaden region of Ethiopia. During that war US was arming Somalia since the government of Ethiopia at the time was a Marxist(communist) regime while the Cubans fought the war against the aggression. That monument was built by the North Koreans. There used to be a huge Lenin statue in front of the old ECA building near the foreign ministry but was brought down 30+yrs ago when communism collapsed and a pro western regime came to power. That was also built by the North Koreans.
@@princesslivingfreeI was very young(probably 9 or 10) when I saw with my own eyes while they built the monument. was inaugurated around 1984-5ish. The name is 'Tiglachin' = our struggle.
