Deranged Ariel in the alternate recordings of Soul Reaver 1 remind me so much of Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks' lodge. With the final quote from Moebius being similar to Mike's, i truly believe that the devs used Twin Peaks as inspiration.
In regards to the summoning of Ariel to the spirit forge I also thought of the continuation of the time stream. It makes sense to me this Ariel is from the soul reaver 1 era and she is summoned through time by the forge itself perhaps in a similar way turrel was summoned from the soul reaver era to the blood omen era to become the vessel hash ak gik in avernus.
6:25 I've seen that cutscene so many times as a kid that it flew by me to this day that shot is a visual metaphor of Ariel's death upsetting the balance of the scales.
23:14 - I kinda like this take, it seems natural to have Ariel react more strongly to the fact she spent what seemed like eternity bound to the ruined pillars, witnessing destruction of Nosggoth
I real liked that tidbit about the Ariel’s lament had to listen to that game’s whole sound track to find the song a good amount of the music sounded a little bit like soul reaver 1 music but that song didn’t seem like a remix of soul reaver 2’s Ariel’s lament I re listen to it right afterwards and didn’t hear it in there at all but it definitely was remixed into defiance’s version of Ariel’s lament but all this has got me thinking maybe you guys should do a video on the music of the legacy of kain series like why it’s so different from blood omen and soul reaver or little Easter eggs or references connected to certain songs like Ariel’s lament here etc.
I know the spin off Nosgoth was not the genre fans wanted but I grew to love it. The game had very good lore for all the character types. Some of the hunters were followers of the original guardians and used weapons and abilities of their nature. The vampire clans had interesting lore too especially the Razielim and their reasons for surviving and joining the fight.
I actually prefer her model from SR2, looks the closest to BO1. She looks like she had a car accident in Defiance...and her floating, thick hair doesn't seem right.
Reflecting on the series I came to the conclusion that when Ariel says... "What are you, little soul? Another of Kain’s creatures, come to taunt this bound spectre?" I think this implies she has been taunted by wraiths more so than vampires because Ariel resides in the spectral realm exclusively at this point. It's likely Ariel does remember previous encounters with Raziel but she simply does not assume this creature is the same one she met millennium before or the story writers simply opted not to divulge too much information towards setup to leave more mystery in future games
In regards to the Ariels powers or those of balance guardians in general, it would make sense if they could, maybe to a lesser degree, call upon the powers of all pillars. Either to support the other guardians if something in their domain is threatening the balance, or to directly counteract the other guardians if they themselves are threatening the balance.
35:50 Ariel is also giving Kain the choice to determine her fate - not just that of Nosgoth. If Kain makes the choice where Ariel's 'living' side is shown, she will be able to resume her normal 'life cycle' (fully crossing to the other side - or just being eaten by The Elder, who knows ?). If Kain makes the choice where Ariel's 'dead' side is shown, she will remain trapped in the land of the dead.
I'd kind of argue that Ariel having Kain kill Nupraptor first, show's that she did care. He went insane and was no longer the man she loved in life. She might very well have seen it as a mercy. I think I might have done the same thing in her situation. I know that I as I am right now, I would want to be put down if I where ever to became the kind of monster the Mentalist had. Also I vaguely remember him thanking you when you kill him...
Also, nupraptor was the source of the corruption, and may be actively damaging the pillars with his continued existence, so killing him is paramount even if kain fails to kill anyone else, he atleast stops it getting worse
@@struanpeat5116 True, I was merely pointing out that it's unfair to assume that sending Kain after Nupraptor first in no way implied she did not care for him. Though in all honesty that was probably the reason for the choice. If he had not been the source of corruption though. I suspect he'd have been the second to go. Or perhaps the last, but only if she was able to convince herself that he might be cleansed of the corruption. Of course we may never know, as I doubt we will ever get to see that timeline.
@@patrickbuckley7259 In the entirety of the series, I don't really remember if Ariel ever tells Kain or Raziel that she still loves Nupraptor and that she hopes to be reunited with him, in death. Perhaps, she's still bitter that he played such a pivotal role in preventing her from fully crossing over to the other side.
@@jackwilliam4436 Yeah especially as time went on and the maddening torture of always being awake to see shit getting worse. She'd be right too. Nupraptor was an actual asshole for dooming the entire world just because he felt bad. Ariel was a balance guardian, the one guardian that cares the most about keeping the world in order. His action basically pissed on her legacy and corpse.
WOW!! I have to say: That conversation between Anacrothe & Mortanius which was cut, is absolutely amazing to say the least! What a shame that it was removed, it gave me goosebumbs. . . So deep in meaning. Sorry, might act like a pre-mature child but, no. Ó_ò This is something!

27:02 This is just an idea I had, don't know if anyone else has it. The reason Ariel appears to Raziel even though it's meant to be all the previous Balance Guardians is because, with the exception of Kain, she's the only Balance Guardian Raziel personally knows
Love the video. Especially the added notes and curiosities. Those "bride costumes" refer to celto germanic origins of nosgoths cultural lore which is a appreciable nod to the main games art design. The "bride" part isnt fully correct nor fully wrong. Celtic druids celebrated a series of spring festivals to guide winter into summer. On those, young women acted as shrine maidens dancing around poles with bands and flower crowns, welcoming life back from winter. They were called spring brides. Sometimes just metaphorically, sometimes literally married in the process to the tribes young men. Much is lost and transformed of those original customs through chrisianisation but some of it is still celebrated in Germany today. As guardian of balance, the druidic part of Ariels lore and her endless hovering around the pillars as an undead shadow would display another very sarcastic dark humor if the original author really thought this out in so much detail. This only adds to Ariels torment since the spring rites are all about giving new live. Its all about circles. Circles of life, circle of the nine, circle of fate, the damn circles of time travel even. I would love to see a video about that: The deeper philosophic background and meaning of the "hidden" faith of the elder vampires / elder god against Kains anti hero take of breaking free of the cycle even if it means breaking the wheel of life itself.
Remaking the series would require hiring new voice actors to replace the ones that have already sadly passed away. Tony Jay (Elder God) and Janos Audron (René Auberjonois) cannot be replaced. I sincerely hope the series remains dead, I would not be able to tolerate these characters being recast since their voices and the actors' performances are so deeply engrained. I wish LoK fans stopped saying this stupid crap. The series is dead. Be happy that it hasn't been ruined by current industry remaster and remake practices that usually ruin the games.
Honestly as much as I hate to admit....she and Nupraptor are kinda in the wrong for being together in the first place but at the same time I blame the Hylden Lord for using it as an opportunity to lead Nosgoth down to the decay years down the road. But honestly I was surprised by her final appearance in Defiance when she had the hatred and madness she suffered lifted from her....but still I wonder if Nupraptor's madness was a necessary role for this?
Im a bit late, but in regards to the spirit forge summoning balance guardians What could have happened is that the spirits of all balance guardians of all time (to the end of the world) are called from the end of time. So arial cna be trapped for an eternity of eternities, and only when the world is over does she and the other guardians get the summons, now with full perspective of time and perhaps enough time to restore arials appearance
You're getting better with these for sure. At least you didn't mispronounce any words this time. Keep it up! I was very surprised that Ariel's Lament is a remix of some completely obscure Genesis game I'd never heard of, it's such a nice surprise. The original track isn't bad at all, too.
I really wish we got a video game series based off of the sacrifice ending the non-canon ending yes vampires are gone but they're still evil in the world in the hearts of man
If you knew the series, you would understand that the hylden - literal human enslaving, soul sucking demons - would have replaced the vampires, dwarving every "evil" in human hearts. It probably would have ended like Soul Reaver 1's dystopic future - or worse.
Actually i kind of agree the alternative timeline would be interesting set in the future of the soul reaver era. Just 1 game though I wouldn't want more than that. We could see the return of the hyldan and futher corruption of nosgoth to resemble the demon dimension bleeding through and perhaps we follow the story of a human character leading a rebellion against the new Hyldan masters of nosgoth. Perhaps the humans built a new silenced cathedral capable of destroying the hyldan. Alternatively we could play as a deranged Janos Audron accompanied by vorador since we have to assume they are both immortal and also both imprisoned in the demon dimension all this time.
