This is probably my favorite "modern" zombies map. Getting to pack a punch is pretty tedious but it could be much worse. The setting just makes this map, Alcatraz was such a solid idea and it was executed with grace.
I think afterlife is an essential part of making the setup not feel tedious. Not only does it help you set up, but while you have it, you feel much safer than you would otherwise. On most maps, you are setting up to get Jugg and/or a shield, and while you have neither of those you feel very exposed and tense and on MotD, it can take a while to actually get everything you need to protect yourself. So getting an afterlife, for free every round, straight from the start makes a huge difference in how long you feel exposed.
Don’t forget that motd was also the first map with a shared inventory, so one person could pick up an shield part and everyone had it, you could also carry more than one part; this wasn’t really important in motd, but in Origins it made a huge difference, Imagine having to get a staff or shield part, take it to the build location, craft that part, then go get the next part.
I'll never forget how atmospheric this map was and how insane the build up to it releasing was. I came home from school so excited to play it, I even watched all treyarch's videos/documentaries about how they went to Alcatraz to properly model it as close to real life as possible. With the new hud, art direction, and color palette it looked like a whole new game.
I really like the intro cutscenes to motd and botd. They are in the same place, but they are also very different. The motd crew split up and all die, going to afterlife. While the primis crew stick together and constantly save each other's lives. It really shows the personalities of both the crews and how they are very different to each other, despite being in the same place.

Elaborating from the beginning of the video: My issue with buried was that the setup is too easy. You receive points for the chalk. You have the bank. You can roll the box with all this cash, and open all the doors. Everything can be done by round 1 with no challenge, and that just doesn’t cut it for me. The witches, tho, were a cool idea.

2:37 actually.... The consumption of alcohol wasn't illegal, that way the people who did have achochol could just drink it themselves, but they couldn't sell it
I bought this map many years ago and never really played it because I thought it was too complicated. I then decided to sit down yesterday and learn everything in one sitting and made it to round 35 after a few attempts (I know that’s not that high but it is for me) it’s my favorite map now.
im so happy there’s a new zombies youtuber, i mean im sure he’s not actually new to the platform but this guy is suuuch a breath of fresh air in the zombies community
I initially bought Mob Of The Dead because it takes place in Alcatraz and I was born and raised in The Bay SF. So it hit close to home and I loved it. Besides, I loved zombies also so it was just the best combo. But playing it again and watching gameplay, I can say that this map is just so beautifully done and had the red eye zombies, it is my favorite.
I really wish Mob of the Dead and Call of the Dead came back closer to their original versions. Blood and Tag are cool in their own ways for the story but I felt they stripped some of the uniqueness of Mob and Call. I get that licensing for them is an issue since they were using celebrities for the characters but it would still be nice to see "Classic" versions come back. Call of the Dead is a favourite of mine similar for Mob. They're much more standalone than the other maps who are all intertwined in the huge complex story and as a fan of horror in particular I love the references each of the main 4 in Call make to stuff like Buffy, Dusk Till Dawn, The Walking Dead and Nightmare on Elm Street. George himself I also found pretty endearing even if he was designed to try and disrupt players who just kept Zombies in a herd in one area and sprayed bullets into the crowd. Not to mention it was the first time they brought in Avenged Sevenfold to make an original song for the Zombies easter egg track and it's by far one of my favourite easter egg songs by one of my favourite bands.
I actually enjoy watching your videos to learn about zombies. I honestly enjoy watching you play zombies more than I enjoy playing zombies. I have honestly learned a lot from you. Just from watching your videos I’ve become so much better of a zombies player it’s ridiculous how much better I am now. You also have a nice voice and I really like hearing the commentaries throughout your videos. I don’t think I’ve ever grown to like someone as quickly as I did till now. I’m on UA-cam for multiple times a day and each time I’m on it I watch like 3 of your videos. I only just discovered your masterpiece of a channel a few days ago, it was the video on the town remastered map. Your rants are awesome. My favourite video is definitely the top 10 trees one.
You're probably never gonna see that but I love your channel I've been following you for quite a while now. I just watched that video and I cried thinking back of the time where I used to play mob of the dead, 7 years ago with people that are no longer a part of my life. I remember so many happy memories and good moments I had on this game and today I'm playing it again and it's one of the only decent time I had a in a while. Thank you for making this possible Tim I love your videos !
“Did you love it did you hate it?” My brain is conditioned to hear “you’re the best you’re the best what should I review next?” after that sentence. Jesus Christ.
These are also characters that feel like real people , i remember a line from Billy Handsome when you get on the bridge for the second or third time "how do i end This?!? i can't change what i've done so you might as well just end it! Kill me! Right here, right now! I'm not afraid to die!!! " That line alone was deeper than anything we had ever seen before in zombies. I had goosebumps the first time i heard Liotta say this.
Mob was amazing. I still remember the many hours me and my ps3 friends spent on it. Doing the easter egg and just killing time. The easter egg was so fun. And the vibes were amazing
"It isn't tedious." Meanwhile me running around the map for 10 minutes getting all the plane parts just to packapunch once and then go back to the map to get new guns because I ran out of ammo or I need ammo for my tommy gun or any other wallgun and then having to get all the gas cans that takes even longer because it is a higher round and dying because the map is so close quarters.
Just keep playing my dude, Practice Makes Perfect. BO2 Zombies is the only Zombies I can solo while knowing what to do. Then again, I'm the one to survive and I'll just get pack-a-punch and the wonder weapons up. MOTD and Origins are the only ones I'll do the Easter Egg for if I'm up for it.
2:32 interesting fact a lot of people don't know is that the consumption of alcohol was still legal so rich people with huge stockpiles were fine and buying alcohol then taking it back to the states was completely legal
I loved everything about the map. The setting and theme were just so unique on release. Being one of many who just wasn't captivated by the previous DLC maps and characters for Black ops 2, this took the cake for me. I was wowed by the tone, characters, new mechanics, and story. I think you said it best when that introducing the purgatory mechanic somewhat made the map easier in comparison to previous entries, but the flow of how dynamic, yet streamlined the map felt when it came to item collecting, movement, and gameplay put this map in easy to play, hard to master. The map could be play out real chaotic if you don't know what you are really doing, but when you get the hang of things, It was possible for me to open most areas and setup in early game like collecting the plane parts, setting up the acid gat, and reaching essential perks all before the 5-8th round.
@@verycool1132 I mean, I like blundell and he has some of the best maps but since DE all his maps have been mediocre at best with the exception of GK imo
People always exaggerate the modern maps, it takes 10- 15min to get pack a punch on this map for me which takes as long as getting round 10,( which is the round i usually pack a punch on.
The blundergat was my first favorite wonder weapon, when I was a kid. I liked it because it follows the same concept as the double-barrel shotgun wich is my favorite historical weapon.
Bro everything u said I completely agree with and think as well!!! MOTD is an absolute MASTERPIECE!!! From the weapons to perks, sounds, atmosphere, characters, gameplay, optimization, setup, skill gap, and everything else, its so, so, soooo great! Great video for the greatest map!!!
In my eyes nothing will ever beat mob, and my parents didn’t let me play COD back when this was released so when i went back and bought a bunch of older CODs I bought this DLC and truly had the experience it looked like those people on UA-cam were having when the map release. I first played mob in 2018 and i have never had such an instantly great experience.
The “process” to do everything, in regards to the amount of steps, makes sense considering you’d have to piece together an escape plan & slowly gather needed items to escape if you were really in prison. There’s no one stop grocery shop to get all your escape needs in prison lol.
I can’t believe they made an actual island after mob of the dead. That’s how much of an impact it had.
And they built a prison upon that too
I just visited it today actually. It was constructed EXACTLY like it is in the game. Couldn’t find any perks tho :/

This is probably my favorite "modern" zombies map. Getting to pack a punch is pretty tedious but it could be much worse. The setting just makes this map, Alcatraz was such a solid idea and it was executed with grace.
I remember doing the roof wallbreach
This is actually an oldschool map now a days
I’m low key excited for his Buried video: between MOTD and Origins it has to be one of the most overlooked maps
Yeah
Tom buried is a map that I genuinely love but personally I find it rather boring once you're all set up so that keeps it out of my top 5
it got more views than both LOL
love buried forever top 1 for me :)
@@velidiusdestroyer9726 no it fucking doesnt
I think afterlife is an essential part of making the setup not feel tedious. Not only does it help you set up, but while you have it, you feel much safer than you would otherwise. On most maps, you are setting up to get Jugg and/or a shield, and while you have neither of those you feel very exposed and tense and on MotD, it can take a while to actually get everything you need to protect yourself. So getting an afterlife, for free every round, straight from the start makes a huge difference in how long you feel exposed.
Mob of the dead was my first zombies map, I used to go to my cousins house to play this map and we had so much fun
Play it with Johnny Cash's later American albums in the background.
It does fit
I’m not religious, but Johnny Cash went from acting like the devil himself to realizing his mistakes and deserving to go to heaven.

4-the story

5-Johnny Cash

I didn't find the music or the map itself scary but it's awesome
I agree with you bro I remember playing this map everyday until 3 am back in high school . Shit was hella fun . MOB is my favorite of all time .
Is it just me who thinks who's who? Was a test to see if reviving yourself in afterlife was a good idea?
pokemonfan898 ps4 Now that you mentioned it...it does look similar
@@Apollo5752353 ikr, it just has more things in afterlife than with who's who.
pokemonfan898 ps4 But that could just be a coincidence though
@@Apollo5752353 fair point.
A horrible test. If this is true, I'm surprised they kept going with this idea and improved it after the massive failure that was Who's Who.
14:04 I agreed with every point you made and then you oPENED THAT DOOR! YOU FOOL!
I get that
Yeah
I really like the intro cutscenes to motd and botd. They are in the same place, but they are also very different. The motd crew split up and all die, going to afterlife. While the primis crew stick together and constantly save each other's lives. It really shows the personalities of both the crews and how they are very different to each other, despite being in the same place.

This map…Words cannot say, first the intro cutscene is astonishing with out 4 mobsters and their voice actors and showing afterlife was incredible. When I first played the normal guard zombie scared me I thought he was Brutus since it was his model in the intro. Second this map could be replayed and mastered from each part and power location. These characters showed me values I live by and I would not be where I am with the knowledge I have thanks to them. These four men don’t even know the greatness they brought to the world I wish they knew if only they knew. These men crafted a story that blasted us with theory’s and questions, it was incredible what they brought us.Weasel you son of a bitch you’ve had my heart since 2013 as my favorite character in the entire franchise they won’t compare man.

I agree, but the switching of #2 and #3 is satisfactory
This list is perfect. I know a lot of people put Origins over DE but I think DE edges out the win because the atmosphere is better. Medieval castle with a beautiful color scheme vs a mound of dirt with mostly browns and greys.
I didn't play mob that much but for the time I did play it, it was amazing. My fav map is origins but mob comes quite close. Buried is also a good map in my books.

buried...tf?
I been in the hard drives for about 4 months and you just put me through those days that have been hard like my house burning Down you videos got me through that and I thank you
Elaborating from the beginning of the video:
My issue with buried was that the setup is too easy. You receive points for the chalk. You have the bank. You can roll the box with all this cash, and open all the doors. Everything can be done by round 1 with no challenge, and that just doesn’t cut it for me. The witches, tho, were a cool idea.

I love how you can survive rounds after rounds using nothing but the hells retriever making it useful when you run out of ammo
This map scared me when I was younger I didn’t even wanna play it alone
Suigeneris I’m 21 now and I can agree this and Call of the Dead was the main 2 maps that gave me chills at night
When the warden spawned i just left the game
Blundell had bo4 story here. A quote from the weasel was "NIKOLAI NIKOLAI NIKOLAI, why do i keep hearing that name?" So yeah
