I would love to see more rc car manufacturers get more experimental with the scaler/crawler/trail truck concept like this for example, because they're all become the same
I had an element gatekeeper with the IFS front and I really liked how it performed. But then again I had it with the IFS front with the addition of having it with a 4ws setup, lol. Both IFS and solid axle rc crawlers have there place. Both have advantages and disadvantages but me personally it's a matter of what each person prefer to have there setup as
When a fella has to do many rcs you forget you have some 😂 I have the wpl-c14, Toyota, I've been wanting to work on myself, your videos give us budget rc guys hope! Lol
Went through all the comments here and very surprised no one mentioned the Trailrunner. Been out a very long time, the IFS is offered separately as a kit, and it's in top 10 crawler lists all the time. Great truck. Ifs runs a different line but it only hinders climbing, not crawling. They're both phenomenal trucks from Enduro/Associated
I took those tire off my senduro put good foams in and threw them on my trx 4 and was surprised how well the work . Thinking about getting this rig to .
I genuinely enjoyed this short video, I want to go out immediately crawling! But it's past eleven an I gotta go to work in a couple of hours...you guys know the hustle
Nice vid! Ive an 1/8 scale full independent suspension truck ground clearance is unreal with the 2.2 tyres both indi and solid axle have there separate advantages, great content hope too see more 😎
I had a 1986 4runner with ifs. I I had front and rear lockers on 33s and 11 inch lift. It would off-road just like the solid axle buddies I just sometimes took different lines
Great video Phil, after watching your reviews on this Element Knightrunner i pulled the trigger & ordered one, should be with me in about a weeks time I believe. Keep up your great work 🤗
I like that suspension set up in the front. I remember like a year ago when I turned my wltoys 12428 into a crawler after I locked the difs n changed the ecu and was really surprised at how it kept up with my rgts
I brought one of these a few months back because of your review. I love it! mine has had a handful of upgrades such as a Hobbywing 2100kv Axe and a bunch of scale accessories and new wheels (still using the stock tyres as they are awesome once broken in) Keeping it all scale though. The IFS hasn't hindered me at all, in fact I find it makes me a better driver as I'm paying more attention to the terrain and picking lines through obstacles. Where as a solid front axle is kind of like a cheat mode at times. The wife loved driving it too so just recently picked up the Trailrunner for her as its on a heavy discount from Modelsport, once the weather improves I hope to get some videos of it up on my channel. Cheers Tomley!
I got a Gatekeeper and a Knightrunner, and am returning the Gatekeeper. I like the realistic and scale aspect. I want to build a dropped faster 2WD pre-runner version that can also drift. Wish they offered a white body like my real one, and white is generally easier to layer over. 90's Sunfire Red Metallic was their nicest red IMO. Pair it with an SC10 and I'll bet some of the parts can be shared. That course is awesome too!
what this truck is really designed to be is a super scaled touring rig but you can add super scale bits to it including a rooftop tent from RC4WD and it would probably do a lot better along the coast
It’s excellent. The way it performed. It am in love with it. I want one, desperately.I don’t feel like buying stock one . Rather I want to upgrade scx10 front fixed axle to independent one ….please help
Thanks for the great videos!! Where is the rock crawler out door course you went too in the UK please? I'm new to the crawler world and been looking around for something local but none yet. Cheers
Guess it's a different "scale" approach, beacuse with a lot of real modern 4x4's a solid front axle is an option/aftermarket part you have to install. So I'd just look at the options that are out there to give it some more mid clearance and of it goes. It's good that this is out there; different..but not new, if you just want to trail and have IFS...hello CC-01! By the way: even Orlandoo is making IFS models now :D
I have a Trailrunner that I've probably put more than 100 miles on. The metal ball studs and plastic rod ends don't really hold up over time. You'll find your lower arms popping first then your upper arms. This might not be so bad except for the fact that if you pop in an area of really thick grass or something then you might lose the dogbone cup thing that connects to the front diff and never find it again. It eventually does get really bad because it'll start popping like crazy and you'll never get anywhere. I'm currently in progress of doing redneck engineering to solve this problem. I think I used M4 hex cap screws, matching nuts, and a pack of Element plastic ball things which I'm using in place of the balls of the ball studs. You have to bore out the plastic ball things to get the screws through. I think the plastic balls are M3 normally, but you need M4 screw to securely slot into the steering knuckle. Use some threadlock on the nuts and when you're all set, dremel off the excess length of the screws and smooth it all over so your tires don't get caught on any sharp edges and get torn up. This will make long term maintenance more difficult, but it'll keep your balls from popping out.
I wear pants to keep them from popping out 😂 Nice fix idea for the arms. Have had a few pop out on mine, haven't lost a drive cup yet. Using the bowhouse rc parts really helped with steering. Being available as a kit is awesome!! Built an 8x8x8 using 4 kits, video on my channel. Currently building a 4x4 with 2 kits and the knight custom high clearance parts. Overall nice front end.
As the truck still has a live rear axle it compensates for the front having less flex (just like real 4x4's). Although clearly still a limitation. If you had IFS and IRS it would be a very different story.
I’m currently building a Toyota 4 runner with the same ifs system is that abs I’m really happy that I see it’s going to perform better than I expected. Thanks Phil for the info. :)
I had built a custom 4 wheel independent suspension crawler. I'm very pleased with it's ability. I used a cordless drill 2 speed transmission for the gear reduction and a motor that normally be found in a 1/8 scale truck. This was then mounted to my short course truck.
Except for the 4x4 3/4 and 1 ton Ram and Ford trucks, all pickup trucks are IFS and solid axle in the rear and have been for decades now. Well except the Honda Ridgeline as it is full independent. The only reason people hate IFS is they don't want to take the time to work with it or spend the money for a proper performance IFS kit.
Phil any chance we can see more of this please. Been looking for something to go beside my absima sherpa and outback 2. Might even sell the outback 2 and get the treka 3.0 outback
I have one I use for training I want a second one for a ark bashing. I think a 3500kv sensored motor would rip. It doesn’t flip over like my other crawlers.
These trucks are extremely capable. I have a class 1 comp ifs truck eith a mamba micro and castle motor. Little bit bigger tires that are sealed with no foams so super soft with steel bead locks and brass front knuckles. It's heavy powerful and very capable
I thought it would be difficult to rock crawling because the wheelbase looked a little long, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. It's a great video. thank you.👍👍👍
Another great video can you do a video on the kyosho mini z awd suzuki jimny i brought one and love it super scale but i find its very capable id love to hear your feedback on it :)
Hi Tomley! Thanks for your vids. Saw an Gmade BOM poster on the wall in your new garage. I've got a question. I just finished my GS02F BOM and was surprised: when moving forward it starts to twisting the body to the right (right side down, left side up), at reverse - opposite twisting (right side up, left side down). What could be the reason? All assembled according to manual... Tried to harden the springs by pretightening didnt help. What am L doing wrong?
Good idea for the vid. The truck looks great but do question the point of it. Its not particularly scale as isn't licensed and also personally would find its performance disappointing and annoying regardless of whether that's the front axle setup or tyre size so for the price a TRX4 sport gotta be a better bet?
Knight Customs have developed and has a 3D kit to improve the ground clearance better steering angle and greater suspension travel makes it work like a solid axle performance wise. Like this truck not into crawling but would turn it into a Pre-Runner or class 8 trophy truck, give it better handling and faster that would be my route get the Lexan Pre-Runner fenders to cover the tyres better once it has a wider track.
hi Tomley👋, i prefer my trailrunner of my ecto, because i like IFS😉👍. really diferent, and it's works nice. i tested my trailrunner with canyon trail tires end deadbolt body, really nice and better than a simple scx10ii😃. one thing about IFS for people, your must test it❗😉✌
I noticed the mario kart on the bench lol I've been toying with the idea of getting one for a while and maybe making it brushless? Do you reckon it's worth trying phil?
Were is that track I live in the UK Leicester and I've just got into 1/10 crawling got a cheap ftx mauler thanks too one of your videos :D love it already upgraded the diff and putting a 1080 into it atm I've also got a custom cage crawler I've made with the hobby wing axe :D still like the ftx mauler idn why probably because it's so cheap and so capable :D
To me this car is more like an alternative to say BRX1 with LC70 body - rather scale and more or a trailing rig than a hard rock crawler. I also see the Tank 300 in that class though with a bit more focus on bashing.
Hi everyone, sorry I am a bit new to RC... What suspension do crawlers usually have ??? I thought the Hi Lux suspension looked like any normal front system, or am I missing something ...?
Is it something to do with the axle. I.e. normally a solid axle would be used ? So the disadvantage of the IFS would be to do with flex and clearance ???
Sweet truck! will you please review panda Hobby. I ordered a truck for my grandson and they’re shipping a junk controller. Not the nice axial scx24 controller a real piece of junk no throttle spring. They also are no longer sending the banner. Disappointing kids everywhere. It’s just a real disappointment they put out a good product and switch it. Thanks
@@ericpohlman5131 The independent suspension has a non moving middle section. I think having a solid axle means that the whole axle tilts and so gives more clearance between the wheels. I am not sure, but I think that would be the trade off.

100% a disadvantage when crawling and trailing. It does look awesome and is usable. Add the knight runner high clearance ifs to get another 12mm
