    What does topaz AI that PS2021 can not? Is it easier? Faster? Better? A comparison would be great before dropping $99. Thanks for the video.

    I too also use Topaz Mask a lot. Thanks for the tips. Very helpful.

    Excellent tips Dave! I've used Make AI only a few times and every time I feel kind of intimidated by the options. This will really help me get more background blur, especially since I shoot Micro Four Thirds. AI is the great equalizer for smaller sensors!

    Again thanks Dave. In Mask AI preferences, there is a setting that you have checked off (Persist Edge Refinement Settings) will you explain that one?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 роки тому

      Good question Doug. That setting remembers your previous Refinement Settings when you open Mask Ai back up. For instance, you might like to Shift Your Edge in on most of your images. With Persist Edge Refinement Turned on it will remember that setting each time you open Mask Ai back up.

    Hi Dave. I have a question.... with the newest capabilities of PS, do you still find masking better in Topaz mask AI ? I mean better, easier or both....

    Dave- I have latest v 1.3.9, but Preferences doesn't show that "Calibrate" button, it's empty space where you show it. Any idea as to what's up?

      I was going to make the same comment. I use Windows and I know Dave is on a Mac so that might be the reason.

    I really like Mask AI; thanks for the great tutorials Dave! QUESTION: When I'm unable to use Mask AI and have to manually mask a selection in Photoshop, I'm never sure whether to slightly expand OR contract the selection to achieve the best results when I plan to modify the background (or make adjustments to the selection). I’ve seen many tutorials where either one or the other approach is recommended (expand vs contract) to get the most realistic looking end result. Thoughts?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 роки тому

      Good question. It depends whether you have selected the subject, say with the quick selection tool, or have selected the area outside of the subject. If I select the subject I will generally need to contract it a bit. If I select the area outside the subject sometimes I need to expand the selection a little bit.

    Why do you / would use Topaz Mask Ai instead of your TK7 please ? Thank you

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 роки тому +1

      Good question. My reason is that they are two different products and are made for completely different purposes. Mask Ai is for doing things like cutting out backgrounds and replacing them, like a sky replacement. TK7 Luminosity Panels are designed to help with making adjustments to your images. In other words, say you wanted to lighten all of the midtones of your image: TK7 would help you to just target those areas for adjustment.

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly . Thank you . I read that means that the TK7 panel cannot function in the same way as Mask Ai ie it cannot make the same sort of selections for the same sort of purposes as Mask Ai …nor PS own selection methods and select and mask function ? . Graham

      @@graham_TThe TK7 Panel draws entirely from the resources of Photoshop. Everything connected to the TK7 Panels are Photoshop. Think of it this way, everything the TK7 Panels enable you to do can be done apart from the TK7 Panels just using Photoshop in its pure form. The TK7 Panels enable you to get things done in Photoshop much quicker than trying to duplicate what they do yourself. The thing I really love about the TK7 Panels are how editing choices, that we as Photographers love to use, are all laid out before us. Think of a carpenters tool box laid out with all the tools he uses on a daily basis to get the job done. The TK7 Combo/Cx Panel is basically a Panel of Photoshop Actions that enable you to get to your editing results done much quicker than if you had to do them one step at a time and hopefully remember all of the steps to get you the desired results. Luminosity masks can be made without using the TK7 Go panel but the TK7 Go Panel will produce them for you instantly. I hope this makes sense. Topaz Mask Ai works entirely outside of Photoshop and is independent of Photoshop. It was designed to create Photoshop Layer Masks outside of Photoshop, to then be used inside of Photoshop. Unlike Photoshop, it uses Artificial Intelligence and its own unique coding to create its Layer Masks. It also has the capability of compositing images independent of Photoshop and it has some very creative means of getting the job done. Thanks for the question Graham and I hope this helps and it makes sense.

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly thank you for comprehensive reply . However ..I did not see in the reply the affirmation that TK 7 can do a subject selection like PS and Mask AI can do . I guess it cannot . Thanks again

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  3 роки тому

      Sorry if I misunderstood. The TK7 Panels are not designed to do subject selection. They are designed to make selections based upon Luminosity and color values.
