- Playthrough of the arcade version of Mace: the Dark Age using the Executioner. I'm still learning this game so its not a perfect playthrough by any means. Apparently, I still need to learn the timings to beat Asmodeus on the first try.
Recorded using a Core i5-2500 (Sandy Bridge) and MAME v141 on my arcade machine. The arcade game was released in 1996 and used a 3dfx graphics chip on the Seattle hardware. Intel's latest Sandy Bridge processors can play this game at full speed with no overclocking required.

This game was so underrated and ahead of its time.
Clean game. Hidden gem.
Especially with the spatial impact of the area. Like the stages actually impacted the fight with dangers. That was def ahead of its time

I like to see a remake, but I doubt NRS would do console exclusive games in this age, since the games they released are for more than one.

Yeah it seems like the programmers decided to have a little fun and have the fighters say something out of character every once in a blue moon.

Takeshi was always the bane of anyone’s playthrough. His basic 2 hit combo was enough to take off a good chunk of health and it was so quick. Nicely done.

This game looks amazing for a arcade game, I agree with the others, it should be HD remastered for modern consoles and Steam.
It was also a N64 game
i know i got it on my tablet with a emulator it runs flawlessly with no graphics problems

For me on the n64 the bots are INSANE, I'm used to games like mortal Jon at and killer instinct. Noticed my gf had this on her n64 and got into it and I like it honestly. But shit soon as I get to the monk dude on normal. The dude was nearly blocking every move I did no matter what I did, tried doing over heads to lows and it's like he knew what I was doing almost. Shits hard.
I remember trying to play this when i was 8, it was just too fucking hard. I just re bought it and i still don't think i'll do any better
Me and my buds spent many a day figuring out combos. Helped that we were friends with the guys who worked at the arcade,... free credits all day.

Hey great gameplay! I loved this game so much back in the N64 days. I used to play Al Rashid and i thought his execution was one of the cooler ones. Anyway, you make a great Executioner. Kudos!

I Gotta give credit 2 AL Rashid(favorite character) he's so relentless even with his last bit of health he'll still fight you to the death look at em around 12:28 not many characters are like him at all in fighting games period
Streetfighter 6 now has a Rashid some moves look familiar i am sure they took it from this but Rashid will be a hit because his moves are fluid just like in this game

me and my brother would play this on an emulator for the wii, all the letters were just corrupted squares and lines, and the graphics were a little buggy, but the game play was really good.

Ive always wondered. Is the Executioner a Moor? I was always disappointed that this game seemingly lacked an African character. As I became older and realized that he was from Spain and clearly had the skin of someone of African ancestry I started to believe that to be the case.
Mace the Dark Age is what I imagined Bonestorm in The Simpsons was like.

Grendal is from Beowulf, which is British poetry, but he's Taria's brother, so he's Spanish.
Pojo is Spanish for chicken. She was turned into a chicken by Taria, so probably another Spaniard.
The janitor has no background what so ever.
That leaves war mech, who does have a Scottish accent, but he's a dwarf, so you decide if that counts. :P
I'd love to see some kind of revival of this game by NRS.

Everyone would be on Mortal Kombat 4 all damn day at the arcade. This game wasn't played as much at the arcade so I played this a lot. My goodness it's so awesome seeing this in action again lol. I loved playing this. At first the little scene where the heads would fall on the spike was uncomfortable to look at being a kid but then I got use to it lmao Sweet victory

+Rotoid They are time-locked characters, simply put when the arcade machine has been used a certain amount of time a new character was unlocked, Tekken had a similar mechanic it was used to keep people playing the game.
beat the game with The Executioner for Grendal. then hold start on The Executioner and thats where he will pop up. When the game first come on u gotta make to full 360's on the D Pad. This will unlock the other samurai guy and the lil guy inside the machine. they will b at the top of the scroll of the character select screen. For the chicken u must do the fatality of that girl with the dagger and sword, wich she turns someone into a chicken. Then ounce at the character select sceen u hold start on her n the chicken will appear

I'm mean, this game should be revived. Revamped, just like soul calibur but even better!!! All of the characters are different amazing in there own way.

I played quite a few B lister fighting games back in the late 90s and early 00s, but Mace is the only one i remember...and quite fondly. It could easily have grown into a franchise to rival the likes of Soul Calibre if the stars had lined up a bit differently
A talented studio definitely needs to scoop up the IP and deliver a modern incarnation

this games is good but has a big problem in n64 is dificullty is unballanced even in easy in so much hard. actually i think this is one oh the hardest fighting games ever. but for some reason nobothy thinks that.

Damn I can see part of the reason why people went out to the arcades in the 90s, the graphics were way better then the home systems at the time. The character models in this look like later PS2 era in terms of detail.
