Reminds me of a story from MLB in the 1970s - a reporter was doing a pregame interview with - I think - Sparky Anderson - and he got so involved with his questions that he didn't notice that the game had begun and the first batter was at the plate. He apologized profusely to the manager who waved him off and said "Hey, don't worry about it - we do this every day."

That said, Bartman did not deserve the treatment he received.

I struggle to even call it a gaffe, he didn't reach over the fence and there were multiple other fans going for the ball. Sabal is literally an awesome guy, he's overlooked as a player especially. A couple weeks ago me and my gf went to a sf game really early to see if we can get some autographs and apparently Sabol was the last person to give out autographs to fans. As soon as we were next, sabol tells the worker that's guarding the line "that's it right?" The worker replied " yeah that's it, thanks" right before he was about to leave back into the locker room, he saw my girlfriend holding her jersey out and decided to grab it and sign it for her. She's a huge fan of sabol that she got star struck in that moment, that I had to be the one to say thank you because she was just to excited haha.
