It entirely depends on what you're doing as well, and can narrow down to hardware. I have two capture cards. One is specifically for retro consoles and the other is for HDMI. The one I use for retro consoles has HDMI, and even DVI and VGA inputs, but for some reason the HDMI capture drops frames (Not severely, just enough for those sensitive to microstutters like myself). My Elgato HD60S is smoother for HDMI purposes. So I use the Elgato for HDMI consoles like the WiiU and Switch, and the Startech USB3HDCAP with modded drivers I use for native 240p input over component for my retro consoles for near emulator quality from real hardware. Originally I was just using the USB3HDCAP, and while microstutters won't matter for most people, it was driving me up the wall and I'm glad I hadn't gotten rid of the Elgato that was supposed to be replaced.
I have a solution for those of you having issues with streaming even if you have a good pc and good enough internet. Streamlabs: Click on Advanced and then enable New Networking code under the network section OBS Studio/Streamelements: Go to Advanced, then check Enable Network Optimization Everyone upvote this, I tried this with 1280x720 30 fps and 1920x1080 60 fps. I get no frame drops whatsoever on whatever I decide to stream with, on 6000 bitrate. My internet only has 10 mbps upload. See here: www.speedtest.net/result/9253569925.png I do not know if doing this will make your streams pixelate, but given the bitrate I don't think it should Edit: Just tested stream, it did not pixelate at all, now I need to set my cpu encoder preset higher
@@KyZeNickX well, it could just be your internet and the encoding preset that you are using. Make sure to watch Harris' video and take the tips he gave all of us and apply them
@@KyZeNickX honestly, I have no idea about that one. My guess is net nuetrality is gone?? Not too sure So, if its not your internet, did you construct your layout in streamelements like Harris had recommended? It really does help

Bryce Dixon maybe you can help me?? My stream and or recording always gets laggy/ glitchy/ twitchy. Sometimes it looks like it’s slow. Slow motion like. But on my screen everything looks fine. I have a Icore 5 8300h. Which is probably the problem. Gtx 1050 Ti. 16gb ram. My internet is fine too about 200down and 40up
There is no way you would be sending 2mil pixels 60 times a second. You'd need an incredibly fast internet speed to both stream and watch that. Analogue signal used to send the whole screen, digital merely sends the DIFFERENCE between frames. Hence why if you have things like snow/confetti on TV it starts to look terrible. Tom Scott has a great video explaining this, search him up for "inter-frame compression". Boss video as always otherwise.
First off, amazing video as always. Something I've experienced which has caused myself to have lag issues is a simple tick box on the Advanced settings on the Output tab. It is called "Enforce streaming service encoder settings" if you're still experiencing issues, try un-ticking that box. It may help. Also, for people running with the NVENC H.264 Encoder (Graphic Card) on the Advanced tab there is also a tick box called "Use Two-Pass Encoding", un-tick that box as well. These are just two other tips for peeps, however if you follow what Harris is saying, i'm sure this will eliminate most issues.

Hey Alpha I have a 2400g and 5700 XT, I have around 16 uploud, and I want to stream fortnite is there a way I can get a consistent stream or do I need to get a new CPU
Just wondering, Did you miss including Best Audio Bitrate setting to be set to also maybe lower PC usage and better stream output or wouldn't you think it makes any difference, I could be wrong. Cool improving streams video Btw.
U forgot to talk about webcam, it uses a lot of cpu, so i use 2 webcam sources set up differently. For the full screen web i go for it's full resolution, and for the gaming scene i've set up a webcam source to 320 cuz it's a small image anyway.
In youtube I can get 1080p@60 with 5000 bitrate but in twitch I cannot get 720p@60 with 1500 bitrate I only can do a 720p@30 with 800 bitrate. My internet works for UA-cam but not for twitch. Maybe because of the servers? I am in the Middle East. If anyone have any info to help. Please 🙏.
I have a 2 PC set up and have been trying to hit 1080p 60fps cause when I do that I maintain more viewers but when I go back to check it out I have the bitrate at 6000 but it still pixels and I'm using a 1050 gpu just for streaming
So there's a difference between "lag" and "delay" right? Im wanting to start streaming and I did a few test streams, I been watching the stream while making my content. There's a delay, that's not lag right? Basically "live" stream isn't true live due to stream delay right?
Idk whats wrong i just made my pc and my stream looks like a potato with nvenc on and 2500 bitrate and higher ive used to see and its still bad quality
Deeply appreciate the videos man! Every single one has been immeasurably helpful! Possible topic or question about something I've been trying to figure out. What's the best way to go about networking with people and/or getting your name out there (without being a douce haha)? I'm already doing the grind, playing games I want and such, and got the stream going decently well imo. I'm honestly not doing it to try and make a career of it, just trying to have fun and meet new people and communities, but it's hard to do some things without viewers. Example, Dead Cells stream integration. Tons of fun, but useless without people.
I had a stuttering stream to facebook. I was streaming in 1080 60fps obs was buttery smooth no warnings or dropped frames and bit rate was constant. But the stream Facebook's end was choppy and stuttering not pixelating at all. Not sure what was causing it and I cant work it out
I have no clue, I tried every setting, and I'm still lagging. I have 80 upload, and constantly 20% cpu and 40% gpu usage while gaming, yet stream is still lagging. Game is fine, just stream.
@@DopeTutorial Even I myself don't agree with how Microsoft is run but I feel like Apple products are too dumbed down for me. I usually recommend Macs for people who want good resale value for web surfing or people who are content creators, especially producers. Windows is a nightmare for audio production but I don't mind it lol I figure Harrison is Apple biased because of his background, which makes sense. Otherwise over time you learn and adapt, and Windows becomes virus free and you didn't overpay for your specs. There's drawbacks both ways, when people ask for advice about what to buy, it always comes down to what kind of person they are and what they usually use it for. I would rather someone spend 500 dollars on a used Macbook that will run like new and likely feel new because of a tight OS, and good construction than get a bloatware laptop. But it depends on the individual. Then again there's always individuals who just want the coolest thing. Those people, are fools and we won't talk about them here lol
Definitely a 2 PC setup is a great option. So much so that the biggest video on my channel is about a 2 PC setup that you can do for free (utilizing OBS NDI), so long as you have a decent second PC already (and you don't need as much as you think). I love doing content on stream optimization, this was a great watch. Thanks.

Im having extreme buffering problems for ESO. I mainly stream Call of Duty Modern warfare and had no issues. my PC SPECS: Ryzen 7 2700x clocked @4ghz RTX 2080 16GB Ram 3000Mhz and 36mb upload speed with 230mb Download speed. I usually streamed at 1080p 60fps with no issues my bitrate is at 6000 steady. BUT when i go to stream ESO it constantly keeps buffering endlessly and im not sure why. I tried lowering resolution to 720p 30fps and to no avail it doesn't work. my Bitrate was raised to 7000 bit rate and my stream STILL endlessly buffers. if ANYONE can help me on whats going on i would greatly appreciate it and will be indebted to you. I just want a solution to this so i can go back to streaming like normal. If it helps i am running a 144hz Monitor @1440p and am playing the game at 220-240fps. Please in am looking for help and went to multiple videos and none of them helped including this one. Thanks Everyone for reading!
I had a strange I guess you could say non issue. Im running a gtx 1060 3gb, I5 8400 6 core and a logitech C615 with 16gb 3000mhz ram. I was running the x264 encoder because of my gpu. However the video was clean but jerky at 4000kbps bitrate. I switched to NVENC H.264 new and the jerkiness stopped but you could see some slight blurring. It just seemed weird that the stream would run better using NVENC when I'm running a gpu that shouldnt have that on it. Using x264 the cpu ran at 41% at 60 fps streaming at 720p. Using NVENC the cpu ran at 28.4% at 720p 60 fps. There were zero dropped frames during both tests.
1) Get rid of things in your stream, that eat a lot of CPU time. 2) Use GPU Encoding instead of CPU Encoding or vice versa. 3) Lower the Bitrate of your stream output and/or the Resolution 4) Get a better PC. Most People use an ill equipped PC to stream. 5) Get a better Internet Connection, if you cannot upload fast enough. 6) You tried everything you of this or cannot do some things of 1-5? Well.. Then, i guess, you're screwed. ;P
Hello stream doctor, im using OBS and streaming to facebook live. I have setup the stream settings according to the obs guide as follow, cbr set to 6000 Kbps, disable encoder setting from streaming service, encoder nvenc (new) because i have gtx 1060 6gb. My upload speed is 10000 Kbps. When i stream, my cpu usage is below 10% gpu usage is 30%ish. Canvas set to 720p, stream resolution at 720p and 59.94fps. the issue i had is that, although i have set my cbr to 6000 Kbps, it will sometimes spike above 6000 Kbps until 9800 which make my game stopped or lag that whole moment then again it will go down again to 5000-6500 Kbps, is there a way to prevent OBS from spiking the bitrate above 7000 Kbps ? Thanks in advance.

Can I add a second GPU to handle the encoding? Assuming I have headroom in my PSU, for ~$400 I could add an RTX 2060. That's the same price I could refurb a 2nd computer with a GTX 1660, as described here - www.tomshardware.com/how-to/350-pc-build. Second question: What are the specs on a second machine - can I just pick up a $200 used laptop?

my upload speed is 31.7 Mbps, download is 400 Mbps, ping 4-8 ms (according to speedtest.com) I have a 980ti, i7-6700k 4 core 4 GHz processor, 32 GB ram, Monitor is at 1440, I've tried every combination from 2500 - 6000 bit rate and downscaled to 720 30 fps, to 1080 60, my stream is still always laggy and choppy, what am I doing wrong? please help lol.
I have a Ryzen 3600X paired with EVGA 2060 XC Ultra and Gskill 32gb 3600mhz. I also have a gig of internet speed with xfinity. Everything seems fine in terms of no lag but I can not figure out why my twitch stream delay is about 15 seconds long. My cousin can stream with about 2 seconds delay and he is in the next room so I don’t get why it’s not working properly. I already went into twitch and switched to low latency made no difference. Please help thanks
I’ve also noticed that at 720p at 3500-4000 bitrate I’m still extremely pixelated especially my webcam. Even tho I’m using my GPU ( Rtx 2060 ) and if I do anything above 4000 on the “quality” setting. It overcodes. But i literally have to dub it down to performance at 5000 to keep my bitrate but I’m losing quality again. I can’t find a balance
So I know you mentioned that the bitrate will drop below the number you set it on. But what does it mean if it’s jumping ABOVE the number you set it on. If I set it at 5000 it will generally stick around 5100-5400 consistently. Why is that? It’s like it’s not capping itself and it’s causing overcoding
I’ve been fiddling with my OBS settings these last couple days thinking it’s my laptop (and while it is still my laptop) only to be clowned by the main issue being my wifi 😭 when when lowering my bitrate to 2500 and changing my resolution to 720p I still get random lag spikes on stream but for now I’m gonna have to tolerate it because I can’t afford a PC and I don’t pay for my wifi
Im setting up my dedicated stream pc tonight. Its a 2600k with 12 gigs of ddr3. I do have a gtx 970 that im not using. My gaming pc has a 1070 in it. Would the dedicated 970 encode more efficiently than the 2600k? I know the cpu is crazy old but it still has decent benchmarks. Im paying games like insurgency sand storm and league of legends on a 2560x1080 ultrawide. I get 90ish mbps down and 12 mbps up.
I play with a switch, so I'm using a capture card. Does that make a difference on the CPU? since my computer, MAC book Isn't running the game play, only OBS and the image from the switch? I know its not my internet. So I'm troubleshooting settings with OBS and I know my MACboiok and my MAC arent probably the best for Gaming. FFXIV didn't work well on my MAC (no streaming)
Question, if you do all of these. Like you have really good internet, and while streaming you see that your CPU is using no more than like 25% at the most (usually around 14%) and everything seems fine on your end, but then the stream is still dropping frames and audio is going out so sync and it seems laggy. Does that make it something with twitch or still with my computer? Because thats what is happening to me lol I tested everything and it was fine but looking back on the VOD it was TERRIBLE lol
One quick question Heller, if you suggest I stream at 720p but I have a native 1440p monitor, how can I get my stream to look like 1440p? I assume it’s a twitch partner thing isn’t it? I want to have a high quality gameplay with no pixelation. And bitrate and internet connection is no problem for me.
my problem is that latency isnt stable its jump from 3000 to 900 3 sec later 2500 than 1200 so stream from Good to Low to Poor to Error to Good again, i live upstairs but router is btm floor, is that fault? still signal is strong between my pc and router is about 8-12 meters, on router going all house telephones, sometimes netflix, i check net speed its say 20mb dl 16mb upload, can i fix it anyhow? or to weak internet
Hey! I have a problem when streaming. My download and upload speed is booth around 40 mbps, and ping os great, but i still have unstabil and lags in the stream. Hey alpha, I streaming from a console, 720p but my internet speed is 1.4 upload, 3rd person shooters look fine but when I stream fps shooters its pixelated, will I get a better image streaming on 480p then 720p in my case of only having a 1.4 upload speed ? Also while streaming it looks fine on fps shooters but when video saved and play it back on twitch then its pixelated
I have an i9 9900 and rtx 2070 super. I’m getting perfect gameplay on my end but stutters on stream. I’m at 720 60fps using gpu to encode. should I switch to cpu to let my graphics just handle the game and the i9 encode?

He mentions the internet could be a factor but, I may have missed it, what should your internet upload speed be? At the moment I am stuck with ATnT and the upload is only 1.2-1.9 Mbps, horrible I know but it is the highest upload here outside of business class.
Yikes I stream through my Xbox and have to keep the bitrate at like 1000-1500 otherwise it gets fucked up. Weird though cause I can still stream at 1080p and it looks and runs pretty fantastic
Hey Alpha gaming what if every couple seconds xsplit freezes almost like its buffering. This is happening b4 i even start broadcasting. But when i open elgato 4k capture utility it does freeze or lag.
This video helped me a ton. I've watched several other videos to help me optimize my settings, since I'm streaming from a crappy laptop. I had no idea my internet was ALSO an issue. Such easy little fixes, and although I'm not streaming at the same quality as those who stream on better computers, lag was not an issue, and for ONCE, Streamlabs wasn't yelling at me for dropped frames/lag/etc. I'm no longer chomping at the bit to buy things I can't afford. For now, this is enough. Thanks!
The problem is, my cpu load is literally 1%, or 0. Something, the max it’d go up to is about 4-6%. But the stream still lags. It’s awful I lowered the resolution from 1440p to 1080p, then to 960p, then to 836 or whatever it is and it’s still bad lmao. I’ve tried any bitrate from 2500-6000 and it never works fine. I use my RTX 2070 Super Strix for the encoding and I stream at 60fps, usually games like CSGO or Rocket League. Today it was okay at the beginning but some time into the stream it just started dropping frames like crazy. I just want to fix it:(. Back at home when I streamed I had 20mbps upload speed because that was the maximum in that area, now I’m in the capital in uni halls and my speed is 100mbps up and down speed yet it can’t even do 5800 bitrate. Idk if it is a bandwidth problem or a PC problem but it doesn’t make sense for a R9 3900x + RTX 2070S + 32GB 3200mhz RAM to be performing badly, unless it is an overheating issue but the PC is only a year old. I really dk I need help :/
how would you eliminate the pixalisaation? my settings are right but I still get a little bit of pixelisaation. My pc and internet are plenty strong, so it comes down to the settings I suppose.

Made me drop 10% on my cpu, great tip mate!
Please 🙏.
what happens when my cpu is under 10%? do i need to increase kbps for better quality?

So there's a difference between "lag" and "delay" right? Im wanting to start streaming and I did a few test streams, I been watching the stream while making my content. There's a delay, that's not lag right? Basically "live" stream isn't true live due to stream delay right?
I have tweaked my settings as how i like, i have 10% - 15% (CPU usage). And my stream is smooooooth. But anyways nice video 👍👍
Idk whats wrong i just made my pc and my stream looks like a potato with nvenc on and 2500 bitrate and higher ive used to see and its still bad quality

Those people, are fools and we won't talk about them here lol
does anyone have a setting to turn down to make it easier to stream at 60 fps 720p my pc can only handle 720p 30 fps

I mainly stream Call of Duty Modern warfare and had no issues.
my PC SPECS:
Ryzen 7 2700x clocked @4ghz
RTX 2080
16GB Ram 3000Mhz
and 36mb upload speed with 230mb Download speed.
I usually streamed at 1080p 60fps with no issues
my bitrate is at 6000 steady.
3) Lower the Bitrate of your stream output
and/or the Resolution
4) Get a better PC. Most People use an ill equipped PC to stream.
5) Get a better Internet Connection, if you cannot upload fast enough.
6) You tried everything you of this or cannot do some things of 1-5?
Well.. Then, i guess, you're screwed. ;P
None of these steps worked but I did something else so I'm good now
Hello stream doctor, im using OBS and streaming to facebook live.
You worked in the Genius bar...not something to brag about...considering Apples rate of fixing their own issues is under 70%...on controlled hardware and OS. Nothing wrong with Windows, lets see OSX support an unlimited amount of possible hardware configurations...and be 100% stable..

I have a Ryzen 3600X paired with EVGA 2060 XC Ultra and Gskill 32gb 3600mhz. I also have a gig of internet speed with xfinity. Everything seems fine in terms of no lag but I can not figure out why my twitch stream delay is about 15 seconds long. My cousin can stream with about 2 seconds delay and he is in the next room so I don’t get why it’s not working properly. I already went into twitch and switched to low latency made no difference. Please help thanks
I have a 2060 super and 125MB/s and I still have lag I stream on 810p@60
why do u stream on 810p stream on 720p
Because there is a small visible diffrence
I’ve also noticed that at 720p at 3500-4000 bitrate I’m still extremely pixelated especially my webcam. Even tho I’m using my GPU ( Rtx 2060 ) and if I do anything above 4000 on the “quality” setting. It overcodes. But i literally have to dub it down to performance at 5000 to keep my bitrate but I’m losing quality again. I can’t find a balance
You just saved my life, auto subscribe :)
I always have a red square when streaming on OBS. THANKS SPECTRUM. *sigh*
If someone saw me using a spectrum box I'd honestly kill myself.

He mentions the internet could be a factor but, I may have missed it, what should your internet upload speed be? At the moment I am stuck with ATnT and the upload is only 1.2-1.9 Mbps, horrible I know but it is the highest upload here outside of business class.

Thanks!
i have a dual core processor without any gpu Lappy..

I shouldn't stream :)
I got the bitrate at 7000 (1080p 60 fps) and everything is running ok, just the pixelisation seems to be a problem
