@user-pg4jg5eh8kI mean you’d have to be challenged to take Peter’s words with anything more than a grain of salt unless it’s in his domain. This clearly isn’t it.
I follow Peter Attia and appreciate his brilliant mind and insights. I do note that it seems one must have more of an upper class financial staus to have the time and money to put many of his recommendations into practice. I still listen and do what I can.
Very thankful to Dr. Attia for sharing his protocols in such detail! To be honest, when he warned about how regimented he was, I thought he'd be even more rigid in his schedule than this. I'm sure he does more things that he didn't mention - such as supplements - but it's definitely not an extremely regimented program. 4 hours of zone 2 and 4 strength sessions I don't find excessive at all. It's the sauna before bed that is impractical to probably the vast majority of viewers, because I think it's very rare for people to have a sauna in their home. I also admire him for addressing the issue of alcohol, because a lot of people (probably a lot of his patients as well) don't want to go cold turkey on alcohol. However, to add my 2 cents to this issue, I am increasingly noticing that the times in my life I felt happiest and performed the best seem to coincide with the times I quit alcohol cold turkey. And I don't mean a drink a week, I mean zero. But, of course, this is just anecdotal. And one more note of encouragement to anyone reading this - most of us can do more than Dr. Attia and Dr. Patrick because we don't have their travel commitments. Flying, jetlag and staying in hotels surely isn't helpful to their protocols, whereas most of us don't travel that much and can stick to our programs more consistently.
I quit alcohol 100% years ago. I’ve never in my life heard of somebody who regretted it. Millions of people in this country know that their life would be better without it, but they are too weak or dishonest with themselves (i’m not talking about you), or too afraid of what life might be without it (eg parties which, absent alcohol, are insufferably boring). What life is like: wake up feeling great every day, zero chance of dui, zero chance of all of the multitude of health afflictions alcohol can cause.
A game-changer for me was 30 minutes of laying on my acupressure-mat right before going to sleep, on my bed, under my blanket. Once you feel yourself dozing off, you just have to roll of the mat and drop it off the bed
Omg I do this as well, it’s been amazing !!! I’ve been trying to tell everyone I know but a lot of people are skeptical. Hopefuly many more will catch on !
The people that criticize too much routine for going to bed are so lucky to just go to bed and fall sleep immediately until you cannot. Besides doing all this routine helps to have a more deep time sleep and be more energized the next day
Lmao being practical is not drinking anything at all, he even says it’s best to not drink because there is no benefit, nothing Practical about alcohol tobacco or any other drugs….. My drug of choice is cannabis & caffeine at least with those I can’t damage my kidneys & liver or overdose & die, still none of those are really that great for everyday consumption in the long haul, this man drinks at least 1 drink a day, there will be no “longevity” when he’s 70
@@Cassius-m5v Oh god here come the pot gypsies talking about weed like it's some kind of folk hero. Yes everyone knows alcohol is not ideal, but the social component of it can not be understated in the history of civilization. Pot however never has and never will fully be accepted in a socializing manner. The heavy use of pot at a young age clearly inhibits cognitive development and instills a poor work ethic. Even here where pot has a pseudo-legal status, if I smell it passing by in a car, sure as hell is some loser, dregs of society in the beat up old vehicle.
For anyone thinking "This sounds quite ridiculous, how is a normal person supposed to do that?", here's some advice for your general health: 0. This point goes above everything, hear me? EVERYTHING. Start SMALL. If Dr. Attia here is doing 1,43 workouts every day with 40 g of Protein before and after every VO2-max cardio session, who cares. It all sounds way more fancy than it is. Don't worry about. And I'm not even talking down on him, he's awesome. But sometimes people hear that stuff and fall into despair and don't do anything. It's simple: If you haven't been running forever and want to start - start small. Two to three 15 min. walks per week. If it's hard enough, remain there until it becomes easier. If it's easy enough and you have time for more, go ahead and add another 5 minutes per trianing day. Keep that up until you're satisfied. Same goes for food and everything else. If you want to drop weight and be healthy, don't jump from mostly fast food to chicken and broccoli immediately. You won't make it. Make the steps manageable. Reduce the suggary drinks, then get rid of them, then get rid of the diet soda, then reduce the sweets, and so on. You try that stuff overnight, you'll be binging in two days. 1. Move. Whether you go to the gym 2-3 times a week, go running, do Yoga or whatever else - move. One of the best things you can do for your cardiovascular health to this day is take a walk. Doesn't matter if you walk around in your room while reading, go to nature (preferable) or walk to get groceries instead of driving (as long as it's a reasonable distance), just walk. You don't have to be crazy about it. 2. Eat healthy food. Get some veggies in there, eat good protein and fat sources (whatever lifestyle you follow) and reduce suggar and alcohol as much as possible. One piece of chocolate, a candybar or muffin once every other day won't kill you. But especially the suggary drinks (yes, diet sodas, too), spike your insuline and will do damage in the long run. For anyone interested in further reading, check out Metabolical from Robert Lustig, he goes into crazy detail. Or watch some of his videos. But it's not rocket science people. 1/3 of your plate veggies, 1/3 healthy fats and proteins and 1/3 carbs (potatoes, non-suggared bread, rice, etc.) and once in a while a desert. Drop the alcohol if possible, it's a toxin that has no health benefits. Otherwise treat it as desert - seldom and enjoyable, instead of often and in spades. 3. Supplement if you want and have researched enough. But as long as you feel like crap while you're still drinking alcohol or suggary drinks, don't worry about the right amount of vitamin B12 as a priority. Worry about it, sure, but the Coke will do more damage. Talk to your doctor, get your blood checked. If you have Vitamin D defficiency, take that. You can get fish oils if you want, Omega 3s basically. You can research all of it from Peter Attia as well, since he's an expert on that stuff. But if your car has slush for fuel, it's not much use trying to add dropplets of quality gasoline to the slush to improve it. Get good fuel into your body, then worry about modifying the fuel. 4. Take care of your mental health to whatever degree you can, if you have difficulties. Journaling can be a great start, once every two days for 15 minutes is awesome already. Read a book or two and apply what you read, instead of reading 20 without doing anything. If you can afford therapy and need it, get it. But as with everything, your mental health is not a mechanical clock that needs to be put together in the most precisest of ways. Yes some people need therapy. No change is not always easy. But most of the time, for people who don't suffer from severe mental disorders or live under horrendous conditions: Stop chasing emotions, start doing things that are important to you (yes, YOU), try to do difficult things and don't avoid challenges (in reasonable steps) and finally reduce shit that stresses you out for no reason (manipulative people, social media, etc.). This is all very simplified. I'm not an expert on most of the things. Take this all with a grain of salt. Yes culture and country and many other factors play a role, this is just a youtube comment. Best of luck to you all.
Totally agree with you. All these health UA-cam channels makes my head spin. Eat this, not that, types of exercise HIIT, Weightlifting, walking vs. running or jogging. Eliminate the SAD diet and a little exercise, sleep; and most of us will be 95% good to go!
Want to live a long time? Don’t stress about money. Humans are not meant to work super hard everyday for a measly wage that can’t pay your bills and leaves you with zero energy at the end of the day. The universe provides🌺 When you learn to let go, it all starts to come to you. It gets easier to live the more wisdom you acquire. Do not let negativity into your thoughts. Guard your thoughts well, These are the halls of creativity and manifestation. Impure thoughts lead to negative actions. Keep a strong daily spiritual practice. Yoga/meditation/Chi-gong. Glycine has helped me greatly taking them before bed. I feel great and feel I got the most out of my sleep whether it’s 6 or 7. Felt change right away after first night taking them. Haven't stopped since. I also take NAC as well.
Regarding alcohol, they say your gut biome is super critical to your health. Well, we know alcohol kills lots of things. So how does alcohol affect your gut biome? I can't imagine how it would not affect it negatively. I stay 100% away from alcohol just as a knee jerk reaction to the alcoholics in my life, but this adds another justification to never touch the stuff.
If you drink quality natural beer that is unfiltered and unpasteurised (still has yeast and bacteria in there) then it is the opposite of what you said, it is good for the gut microbiome. The alcohol still has to be processed by the liver though which is the bad part.
I'm glad that Peter Attia shared his routine. Overall, that sounds pretty reasonable. -I bet Peter Attia would agree with that enjoying nature should also be a high priority.
Key to longevity is eat less and be active. My father lived upto 96 despite smoking and drinking. Everything he did was in moderation. Never went to a gym or worked out. I hope this guy makes it to 90. Remember if u eat more and lift weights, body tightens and you are not flexible and u need to workout all the time. Just eat less and be active. No need to Goto a gym or take supplements. Btw he never ate protein. Mostly ate rice and its derivative for all three meals. He hardly ate meat or vegetables. Don’t get big, don’t eat too much, be flexible, skinny but strong. That was his recipe for longevity. He was very skinny but had tremendous grip strength. He can bend down and lift household stuff from the floor. When he was no longer able to walk, he died within few months.
Thanks for sharing. The secret to longevity is a moving target. As one who is seriously concerned about Chronic Kidney disease, Mother, uncle, aunts all passed away doing a similar circuit of hypertension, diabetes, dialysis and then death. That said, high protein diets really concerns me. I choose to be in the camp with Dr. Gregor and I watch the creatinine numbers like a hawk. I really believe genetics plays a big part. Pregnancy induced hypertension kicked it and never left; my sister experienced gestational diabetes and it too, post pregnancy, never went away. Love the sauna routine and the 0 to 7 drinks per week; I don't believe alcohol has any benefits either, however, death is inevitable, and from what I hear, it lasts a long time, makes since to have a guilty pleasure, now and then, while you can.
Dr. Greger is one of the worst people you could look to for information about health. If you consume an animal-rich diet with lots of saturated fat and little to no fruits or vegetables, no nuts or seeds, then you would be on a path to recovery.
@@camwhitman5425💀 you can’t be serious? What literature supports a high saturated fat diet along with animal proteins that activate Mtor high inflammatory responses?
Sleep is the only thing Peter talks about that you cannot make happen by hard work. No matter how hard you try, you cannot force your body to sleep 8 hours. You can do things to make it more likely but if your body won’t sleep then it won’t sleep.
That's very true!! You can do everything you can to improve sleep, and that does work to a degree, but only if your minds in the right place. The one thing I've found that consistently disrupts my sleep is stress and worry! When I'm going through a relatively stress and worry free period, That's when I find I sleep the best!!
Minimize or totally kill caffeine and you'll notice vast improvements to your sleep after a couple of weeks. Nobody mentions this because everybody loves caffeine too much to consider that it might have some harmful health effects.
I train 6 times a week, 4 strength sessions, 6 HiiT sessions. Every 6months I run StrongLifts routine for 12 weeks. This creates a strength base that is next level. So for 24 weeks a year I’m running a serious strength program. Rest of the time it’s HiiT with airdyne, sprints, KB’s, burpees etc. with between 50-70% of 1RM strength lifts. This coupled with Zone Diet eating guidance, my body responds amazingly. Tried Keto, IM etc. never found my body responds as well. Key is to find what works for your body. Keep a log, make sure you track your training and results, review every 6 weeks and make changes if required. It’s unfortunately not a one size fits all.
Sleep must be very regimented & it's TV off & lights out by 10 everynight & I live with my family not alone, diet & exercise routines are highly individual.

This all sounds wonderful. But as a normal person who has a job which entails getting up at 4am, is a long stressful day. Its practically impossible to duplicate what these so called experts do. I go to the gym 3 times a week, i swim once a week, i have a few beers at the weekend, i eat pretty good, but not alm the time! But i do try to take the recommended supplements, i do try to have at least 100 grams of protein a day, (i weight 185-190lbs), im 63, im an ex pro athlete, whos been through good and bad times. I do find these chanels interesting, but you have ti be either extremely wealthy or lucky to live like these people do.
These health experts just observe what is the most efficient and healthiest way to live. They didnt make the rules and nor were they consulted in the "designing phase" of the human body😄. If you want to live to your full health potential you have to do certain things. The type of life we live today is not ideal for the human body. It wasnt design to live the life we currently live and do the jobs we currently do with this fast-paced, always sitting down jobs. We have to understand that these experts just point out the metrics within which the human body operates. I think that the best solution is to study the human body in depth and then do your best to shape your daily routines and also pick a job which allows you to take the most care of your health.
@@upatree10 how'd you start. I have never been hunting and would love to learn how. Are there any people who bring newbs along? How do I find a pack of hunters? Do you hunt alone?
I came from a non-hunting family, but had two good friends that helped get me started in bowhunting. I just read everything that I could get my hands on and practiced daily with my bow, to become proficient. With the advent of UA-cam, there is a ton of information to help get you started. I recommend watching Cameron Hanes, Levi Morgan, Chris Bee, John Dudley and there are many others that provide informational hunting videos. It’s probably more difficult to get started in hunting at this point in time than when I started, but it certainly doable and definitely with the effort. Love Peter’s information. Would love to be his client. I’m an ex marathon runner and have always followed a healthy diet. Never smoked. Drink socially. My dad died at 56 from a heart attack. My mom’s dad died at 49 from a heart attack. This year I developed Afib and also it was discovered my circumflex artery is 90% blocked. 2 stints later I’m ready to go. I guess the reason I write all this is because I believe genetics is the trump card.
Take good care of your dental health, chew xylitol gum to avoid cavities and plaque. My dad had great health, but suffered heart attack at 60 likely due to poor dental hygiene habits.
Genetics are super important, I agree. And I also think we can increase the quality of our lives beyond that of our parents, by a lot, with better diet and exercise, better sleep, etc. And good medical care, so issues like yours are detected and can be treated as well as possible.

I can't understand these people who need to cool before sleep. It's the exact opposite for me. The warmer I feel, the sleeper I get. Same with the food. The fuller I am, the sleepier I am. Bro facts, I don’t understand how any doctor or “longevity” expert could just casually say they drink every night😂 it’s really a joke to drink alcohol PERIOD but to do it everyday is non sense. I also just eat healthy and exercise reasonably. Too many diets and crazy exercises. It's important to enjoy what you do and also use discipline and common sense.
This is a habit that definitely can be broken, just as it was formed. It’s not natural or normal to eat carbohydrates before sleeping - that is when your body needs the LEAST “cheap energy.” I used to snack a lot on carbs before bed but I started eating a high-protein meal earlier in the evening. It’s hard for a while, but drink water instead when you get food cravings. Stick with it for several weeks.

One aspect of Longetivity I never hear discussed is the fact that many degenerative, chronich and ultimately terminal diseases are brought on and fueled by viral infections of many types. For example, if you have chronic, active EBV or HPV, your 'longetivy prognosis' isn't great at all regardless of what you do. Research 'oncovirus' and realize that some viral infections often cause mutations which lead to cancer. Also, for most of these oncoviruses, there is no way to eradicate or 'cure'. Until we win the war against viral infections, talk about 'longevity' is a pipe dream for most people.
I know this video just posted 5 hours ago, but when was this recorded? Does anyone know. Peter changes his mind about things every 6 months, so I'm just wondering if it's already out of date

7 Drinks per week is the MAX limit considered healthy for a female per the NCPHD (14 for men). This should not be treated as the example to follow. I also enjoy the social aspect of having 1 or 2 drinks on the weekend with family and friends. This is good for mental health and indirectly longevity as well. But I disagree with Peter Attia that you cannot feel it. As a triathlete, I constantly measure Heart Rest (HR), Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and sleep quality to track my training recovery. When I drink, usually around 6pm before dinner, I always see an increase in HR (+2bpm on average), decrease in HRV(-5 ms) and decrease in sleep quality (-5 pts). The only way to not see it is when alcohol is consumed earlier in the day (lunch-early afternoon) and the body has more time to flush the alcohol out.
Between Peter Attia, Gary Brecka and Andrew Huberman it will take you 2 hours and 10 grand to get out of bed in the morning. Its ridiculous how complicated and expensive they are making it when simplicity and consistency is all it takes. Unfortunately there's no money in it for them.

Pot however never has and never will fully be accepted in a socializing manner. The heavy use of pot at a young age clearly inhibits cognitive development and instills a poor work ethic.

7 Drinks per week is the MAX limit considered healthy for a female per the NCPHD (14 for male). It is the upper limit not the example.
For anyone thinking "This sounds quite ridiculous, how is a normal person supposed to do that?", here's some advice for your general health:
He has to see his book and keep relevant.
100% it's not rocket science!!
I think you're right! Good to put it down like that! Appreciate you taking that time! 👍🏼

I recently heard a quote from a doctor that said, "You need to eat for two", meaning eat for both yourself and your gut. That's good advice!
The gut bacteria get a little tipsy, appreciate your sharing, and then get back to work the next morning.
@@rawx485 I like the way you think🫡
Alcohol is metabolized by your liver, not your gut. Not saying alcohol has any benefit to your health but probably doesn’t affect colon microbes
I thought he was disappointing.
If you have kidney disease, you have to watch your protein. If your kidneys work, don’t worry about protein.
@@camwhitman5425💀 you can’t be serious? What literature supports a high saturated fat diet along with animal proteins that activate Mtor high inflammatory responses?

At least he's honest but I got him beat on avoiding alcohol 🍸 Sleep is key. I agree. 7 to 9 hrs a night no questions.
My two absolute favorite people! Thank you both so much!
Sleep is the only thing Peter talks about that you cannot make happen by hard work. No matter how hard you try, you cannot force your body to sleep 8 hours. You can do things to make it more likely but if your body won’t sleep then it won’t sleep.
Agreed
It took me about 4/5 months to get into a good sleep routine. It’s more of brain work, that’s hard on you mentally.
That's very true!! You can do everything you can to improve sleep, and that does work to a degree, but only if your minds in the right place. The one thing I've found that consistently disrupts my sleep is stress and worry! When I'm going through a relatively stress and worry free period, That's when I find I sleep the best!!
I think he’s full of it.
Minimize or totally kill caffeine and you'll notice vast improvements to your sleep after a couple of weeks. Nobody mentions this because everybody loves caffeine too much to consider that it might have some harmful health effects.
Never heard of anyone needing so much routine to sleep.
I just go to bed and fall asleep. Wake up about 7-8 hours later at whatever time I want.
Funny that he answered her since she basically asked him to summarize his entire book and all his podcasts in one short video.
This segment is taken from a 4-hour interview!
you must must not listen to his podcast. Longevity discussions like this are like 5% of his podcast "The Drive"

Yeah seriously, those health experts don't life much longer than anybody else and they have always been around...
Your routine sounds great!!

I just read everything that I could get my hands on and practiced daily with my bow, to become proficient. With the advent of UA-cam, there is a ton of information to help get you started.

Ok, this is very common for... common results. PA is 50 and he looks like this.
