    • @elliottcrews4997
      @elliottcrews4997 5 років тому +4

      @@lukashislop5890 It is hard to know the actual condition of the vinyl itself. They will certainly need a good clean and vacuum but unless there are deep scratches that should eliminate most of the pops and crackles. The condition of the jackets are certainly another matter, but if half of them clean up well then they should be $1-3 records. That would be maybe a long term $1,000 to $1,500 profit.

    • @TheSRamos03
      @TheSRamos03 3 роки тому +2

      @@elliottcrews4997 how would someone clean a jacket like that though? I mean the vinyl itself is pretty easy but once the jacket is in this condition, I don’t think there is truly a way to clean them up. I was just wondering your take on it?

    • @elliottcrews4997
      @elliottcrews4997 3 роки тому

      @@TheSRamos03 There isn't much you can do. Wiping with a baby wipe to get mold and dirt off helps. Clear tape to repair seam splits. I wouldn't use the clear tape on valuable records, there are better more time consuming ways to repair splits but for these records it wouldn't be worth it. Put the record in a new poly inner sleeve and put the whole thing in a new poly outer sleeve and you've done all you need and can practically do. There are lots of people that aren't too concerned about the jacket when they can get an album that might sale at a record shop with a good condition cover for $10-15 and they can get it for $5 or less if the vinyl condition is just as good.

    Something worth noting is that the original owner seemed to be a big Beatles fan (had a lot of solo records, a cover record I believe?) but there was no Abbey Road, White, Sgt Peppers, Revolver, etc. which leads me to believe this was already somewhat skimmed through, but obviously not super well. Even if half those records are unplayable, it's worth it imo. Has nearly all the classics.

    Totally worth it. Just the original Rolling Stones real-zipper album (Sticky Fingers) is worth about £30-40 (that's what I paid for it in Romania at a flea market) in very good condition (which yours seems to be in at a first glance). Plus that a lot of them are original pressings like Dylan, Neil Young, Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, which are worth a pretty penny as well. I think these are worth 10 times what you paid for them (at least) if sold individually.

  • @markbeauchamp7207
    @markbeauchamp7207 5 років тому

    There are lots of good titles, some not so good, but that's usually the case with big lot buys like this. The jackets look okay but they're not pristine which is what a lot of collectors want. Splits on the seam and noticeable wear and tear will only devalue. The most important thing is: How do the records themselves look? Scratches? Dirty? And how do they sound? You need to test play a lot of them (the first few seconds is an indicator) and listen for static, pops, clicks, skips, etc. If all of the above is present then you didn't make such a great deal. If they're pretty clean looking AND sound good then you probably did okay. It depends on where you plan to market them. Usually, swap meet LP's like that go for around $1 - $2 each. Yard sale, even less. Good luck, Don.

    Man, if the condition of the covers were better then you would have made the haul of the century. Just hope the condition of the records are decent. My rule for a haul is if the price is $250, there have to be 250 records I would actually want to buy. I would have made that deal. Congrats!

  • @TorontoJon
    @TorontoJon 8 років тому +1

    $250 for 1,000 records, i.e. 25 cents per record, is not a bad deal at all and it would take you years to amass that many vintage rock records if you visited thrift stores and Goodwill stores on a regular basis and you would have to pay $1 to $2 or more per album, not to mention how much it would cost if you purchased albums individually online through Ebay, etc. and had to add shipping costs to the total cost, so I think you did pretty well overall.
    However, a lot of the album covers are very rough, torn, moldy, and with ring wear, etc. which definitely diminishes the value significantly so one can only hope that the vinyl inside is in much better shape (often not in my experience, but one can be pleasantly surprised now and then).
    In any case, you got a great sample of records from a single purchase, so enjoy them! :)

    Hello Don. I have been a record collector for 43 years now. Sold almost all of my vinyl records like the ones you have there in 1984 in Seattle, Wash. I had over 3,000. I got 12,000. But, All of my albums were bought back in the day. They had the original everything. If your covers are shot, And your records and liners are mint, Then you need to find the original mint cover and match them back up. Also, Did any of your albums Like you copies of Bob Dylans Gearest Hits Volume One have the original Poster inside? You hit the jackpot on those. If they are perfect, You can easily get $20.00 a pop. I see other gems in there. Your a young guy and very smart as far as creating a very smart investment. If you keep doing it, You can make a good living. Don't plan on getting married anytime soon until you have a major talk to your girlfriend who you might marry. What does that have to do with anything? Females become very annoyed about the husband having too many albums? Why? I could give you many reasons. Jealousy is one reason. Another is they feel that over time you might need more room and the more you buy the more room you need. The list goes on. Trust me on these issues. I am 64 and I have lived here a while. Or, You could say it is just my experience. Anyway, Continue your record buying. Your doing the right thing. People will laugh at you and tell you your crazy. I did exactly what your doing when I was 18 years old in the late 60's. Trust me, You learn as you go. If you did find posters in any of those albums you did really good my friend. And for a quarter each you cannot lose. All the best. Larry.

    First you have to answer the questions: Are these just for my personal use, or are they to be used as an investment, for sale later. Only you can answer the first question. There are so many records, of course they easily could be worth $250. But, you need to factor in the amount of hours you will spend cleaning the records and putting in better sleeves. As an investment, the albums look only in fair to good condition. I would say that a record needs to be in Mint condition today if it has any real investment value. You will need to store the record carefully, clean, remove static, etc. Just testing these records to determine their value (scratches, warp, playability, sound quality, pressing, age) will require many hours: you need to play them in order to determine their correct condition for investment purposes. Basically, you need to assign a value to your time. Your expenditure of time and energy in cleaning up and testing the records is probably far larger than the mere $250 you spent. But for most of us, we are just Vinyl-holics. Hey, the albums are beautiful, never to be replicated. They remind you of a by-gone era, in a way that CDs never will or could. And going forward, it will all be on a zip drive, smaller than your finger. Not much to see, feel and touch. Although the album covers look only in fair condition, a few of the records could be in mint or mint- condition. If so, they could have some value. But for those of us who are vinyl collectors, it is not really the economic value that counts. Did you not love just fingering through all of those great albums, those albums that reminded you of the past, of an era that once was, a great era of music that far excels the "stuff" you hear today?

    I see a lot of people complaining about the condition of the covers. Who
    cares as long as the record plays fine! I mean isn't the point of vinyl
    to listen to the music and not just look at it. lol. I just don't
    understand all these people that have to have the records and covers in
    mint shape or not at all. And what about these people who buy new albums
    and never open them. What is the point of that? A vinyl album is meant
    to be enjoyed. It seems like a lot of people are collecting just for the
    sake of collecting. It's not even about the music with a lot of people
    in these comments.. Smh.

      You are right, the vinyl and the music is what matters most. That's what we listen to. The covers on these records don't matter because there are no collectors items or limited editions really. The more rare and limited though the better to have the jackets in good condition. No corner dings or seam splits or ring wear. Some people do collect to have a collection in good condition and worth money.

    AWESOMENESSS!! Love The idea of you hunting for Vinyl and digging for the good stuff. Besides the Ring wear and also don't know about the condition as far as the Records go, just some of those pink Floyd, led zeppelin , Hendrix, MJ, Sabbath I think ya got you moneys worth and made the trip worth while....Just subbed!

  • @garyscarpulla100

    You definitely got your money's worth. Shame about the trashed covers but with all the duplicates you have you might be able to Frankenstein a clean version if the cover matches the pressing. All in all a good score just with the Zep, Stones, Dylan and Sabbath. Obviously hard to tell but if the vinyl is in at least VG+ on the cleaner ones it's a major haul. Man, you've got some records to clean.

  • @newdomtanner
    @newdomtanner 8 років тому

    New to your channel, BUT, as a collector.....I think you scored!! If these are playable @ VG condition, then they're treasues. Just take a cleaning wipe to the covers, slip them in plastic sleeves, and they'll look good. Envious, great find.

    Since you asked, my opinion is like a lot of the comments. I buy for the music, if the record is in good condition, that's fine, if the cover is good too, that's a bonus. A bit of glue and a new inner can do wonders. Since your video is now three years old I guess you've done things with them. With so many double- triple- quadruples you may have even got a few bucks back.

    Based on the condition of the record covers, do we really expect the vinyl inside to be in pristine condition?
    Then again, if you're happy.. thats all that matters

  • @beardedjazzman1234

    Hi man! In my opinion, i think you are do a right thing. 1500 for 250 are a good deal. If you just listen a 80% of all that vinyl's, are even more great. I'm from Europe, Serbia (there is no war at Balkan, 24 years and more, dont worry :D ), and I must say some vinyls there (Eric Clapton - Slowhand, The Who - Whos next, Canned heat...) they are no less then 23-24 dollars each, in second hand condition. So, i like your videos, there are so so cool music, my dream is to come to America to shop a little, LP's especially. :D

    Depends on the condition of the vinyl and whether they're first pressings. If the Led Zeppelin have no significant scratches and are on the Atlantic plump coloured label opposed to the green label you've hit the jackpot with those alone.

  • @MrDaiseymay

    Surely, it depends on Condition. The cover's are a clue to how they've been handled, and the playing condition. They look rough to me.

    Big question ! How many didn’t you have and what was the quality of those ? If 10% were ok that makes 100 records at $250 equate to $2.50 each ... That’s a good buy

    If you love music, you hit a home run. If you bought them to sell them....it is hard to say. Serious record buyers want there Lp's as close to near mint as possible unless the record is incredibly rare. In general, they also prefer 1st pressing over later pressings.
    An example I like to give is a Beatles Lp on Vee-Jay called "Jolly What", on Stereo. Even though rare(I believe less than 3,000 were pressed), I could only get $50 for a Vg+ example. When I sold my near mint stereo copy, I got $500 bucks for the same record. Elvis records are dying out as collectors are drying up (except TrueType rare pieces. You could have some rare lp's, buy a book and look them up (Dylan and Hendrix to name a few). Why not show the 45's??
