- The Penny Lane Beatles song has brought thousands of Beatles fans to Liverpool to walk along Penny Lane, and reach the Penny Lane roundabout to discover the story behind the song.
Mentioned in the famous Penny Lane song by The Beatles, they talked about a bank, a barbershop, a shelter and a fire station. But the nearby Fire Station has been changed into housing, the shelter has been closed for 20 years, and now, one of the last remaining symbols from the Beatles song, the Penny Lane Barbershop is undergoing renovation, with rumours that it will no longer be a barbershop, but a wine bar!

Harry Biolietti was the owner until the mid sixties, and We all had our DA & crewcut haircuts there, (including Paul!). Albert Marion had the photo shop opposite with our group photo in the window (Johnny Temper & the Hicats). Harry Bioletti lived in Stamfordham Drive, Allerton and had two sons; Lawrence & Stephen and We all grew up together. Paul McCartney lived up the road in Forthlyn. Happy days & great memories. Shame We do not seem able to keep some famous landmarks of Liverpool history...Even the Fire station is now flats, but at least the building is still there!
Thanks Tony, your memories are so important to keep the stories alive of those amazing times.
Great memories. With so many buildings erased like they don;t matter, it's the local people who are the landmarks left standing now.
@@4-dman464 How true.
Hello David,
My friend and I are scheduled to be coming to Liverpool from California next May 5th through 7th. We would love to book a private tour or two with you. What is the best way to contact you to make all the arrangements? Steve Wilson
I got my hair cut sat on the plank there in the late 60s. If I kept still I got a sherbert fountain from next door. I must have known the grandchildren? in around 1981 from the CB. Older girl about 14 and younger brother. Funny Bioletti made no claims to fame in his shop. Just a tattered cutting or 2 from the Echo. Happier times.
Good times indeed. Remember those days of sitting on the plank!! Brilliant.
@@BrightmoonLiverpool remember the hair model pictures everywhere? The all looked like Peter Sutcliffe.
@@strawberryfields1149 Ha ha!! Scary
It would really be a deep and sad loss…
Definitely.
Wonderful- greetings from Chicago Illinois- thanks ✌🏼
Oh
Man David I hope they keep
The original glass front with the Barbershop name.. it would be such a shame to loose that 😬
Exactly. They need to keep something authentic.
Sickening. When historic, cultural landmarks are gutted, so am I.
Me too.
Sad news. I was there six years ago.
I am glad I got a chance to see it.
Hope we can keep something of its character.
A drunken barber wouldn't be good for health and safety 🥺 they might keep the original barber seats as stools in the wine bar 👍👍🎸😎🎸 BB 👍14
How true BB! It could be done really well, but ...... who knows?? 🤔🫣
Unfortunately this is a sign of the times, and as it says in another classic Beatles song; "There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed, some have gone and some remain." We can only hope that whatever becomes of it, that it remains something of it's association with The Beatles classic song.
That's what I hope for too.
Surely there must be some reminder of the Beatles connection when it's finished, well.. hopefully.
If only they could do something with the bus shelter. I’d like to see the Beatles story take the place on as it could make a great cafe/ tourist attraction/ bicycle hire place.
GOOD NEWS!!!! I have spoken with the previous owner who has told me that they are only making good where there had been some fire damage to the upstairs flat.
There is still a plan for it to remain as a Barbershop!! 🎉
That's good. So many historic buildings are being irreversibly changed.
Good to hear that.
Great news
Oh good!! I feel so much better now.
oh, no! not a winebar!! that's nothin' the world needs less than another winebar. and on sacred ground no less!!
It is ok, it will stay as a barbershop.
@@BrightmoonLiverpool keep middle aged women away from the wine! i think we ALL can agree.
Thanks for another interesting video. Still, a bit disappointing to hear.
It is. Only found out today.
Is the barbershop actually on Penny Lane or is it on Smithdown Place?
It is on Smithdown Place, known locally for many decades as the Penny Lane roundabout.
Oh no! There will be nothing Beatles related left on Penny Lane if they carry on. It's already been wasting away for years. Very sad.
Hoping that a small committee I am on will help preserve Penny Lane and improve it too.
@@BrightmoonLiverpool That sounds good! I'd love to get involved in any way I can.
@VinnyPereira Hoping to get a website up and running and then we can keep everyone updated.
You got the wrong Penny Lane. Think Yank.
First Brexit now this!
