The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Hardly underated with 25 songs in the us top 20. Also 12 songs in the UK top 10.

All the "Rockers and Rollers" must say "thank you" to Pat Boone. He - with his clean image of young married and father and his wonderful voice - when he decided to record "rock and roll" just in the beginning of his career helped the american people to accept "rhythm & blues" and "rock and roll" more easily. Black singers with their hard music with sexy lyrics and Elvis Presley with his sexy manneirisms scared the older american people. Pat Boone in those heroic times helped to reassure the older american people and "rock and roll" settled down.

If Pat had begun his career with ballads - his forte - would he have caught as quickly as he did with his white-washed versions of R&B songs?
his white bread rock and roll songs never really sold that well like all these music experts always mention. His ballads like April Love were the million sellers, not Tuitti Fruitti .
Pat's 1956 recordings of "I Almost Lost My Mind" and "Friendly Persuasion" demonstrate what a talented male balladeer he was, with beautiful technique and phrasing. Listening to his hits, after the fact, always made me think he was under-utilized and deserved more appropriate and "better" quality songs. There's no denying he was also very attractive and his onscreen appearances proved his likeability, but the film studios never showed his full physical potential. Just watch him with Ann-Margret in "State Fair." He was a hunk. Nonetheless, Pat had an extremely successful career.
