I don’t get why Kevin needs those to gps I can understand the dashcam needing but looks like those screens seem awfully small, I’m wondering if Kevin hasn’t thought of using a iPad or a tablet that’s got trucker pass on it or something bigger that can combine some of that wire mess he uses in his cab?!!!
The Garmin 800 is pretty big. He has Trucker path on his phone. He’s happy with his set up.

Not since the ‘Never Again’ video series. And Crete saw the videos, called Kevin, and said they would make changes there…
Kevin is so down to earth! I really enjoy your videos!
At my company, I didn't have to write the numbers down, because they have an app. I just take my phone to the shipper/receiver to give them the numbers they need. I send Running Late, Loaded Call, Empty Call, Arrival Calls etc through the app. Scanning paperwork is also done through the app. All work is done on phone.
Crete drivers can also use only the app on their phones. Kevin is ‘old fashioned’ and likes a written record of all his loads. And…if something were to happen to his phone he’ll still have the load information on hand.
I wish the freightliner fridges were like the KW. The KW fridge is way better and more convenient.
I was just watching another guy who is local to me. He's driving for Crete/Shaffer driving a refer. I can't wait to land a otr job. I've had my class b for 6 years as a power line clearance bucket truck operator and a trash truck/ heavy equipment operator for a college for 3 years. I'm going to school for my class A this fall and I'm worried I won't get a job because they want a year of class A otr even though I have "commercial driving experience" I'm sure I can get a local dump truck job due to all the quarries around me. Just sucks to have to take another job in a completely different lane to get the job you want.
Definitely worth it there are days where I do miss it both my wife and I trucking is worth it I got my CDL back in 2017 at roadmaster in Tampa
That’s a lot of Class B experience!!!! If you want to drive OTR that’s not a problem!!!! Most companies that hire new drivers offer them OTR. You can go to Werner, Swift, Schneider, Stevens, Knight, etc….We’d suggest calling Crete to see how much time you’d need driving with your Class A. It’s usually between 8-12 months depending on the experience, school, starter company. Who knows, maybe they give you some ‘credit’ for your Class B experience. Otherwise just start with a company that takes rookies and then move up to better paying company as soon as you can. Either way you’ll definitely be able to go OTR and make your dream come true!!!

Thanks! Yes. We like the long runs as well. They aren’t always long, but mikes are always decent. Especially when drivers communicate with their asset managers if the use of HOS isn’t productive. Need to speak up about it. Asset managers will try their best. Better for driver and the company.

So I purchased my first green stalk planter, and I know I have done everything wrong to the experienced Gardner. LOL but honestly I am happy with the progress of the plants. I do have a question though. I keep getting mushrooms coming up and I pull them out. I don’t have mushrooms anywhere else in landscaping. The only difference I can think of is the soil I purchased for the planter. Is it possible the soil had mushroom fungi in it?

To answer your question…it’s not our specialty…but, yes…soil could have fungi spores and they like moisture. Our friend has a tower that doesn’t use soil. Maybe double check that? And…best to talk with the tower company and see what they have to say…

How is the hometimw with crete
We are happy with it! Better than at Werner, that’s for sure. Kevin is on a minimum 21 day OTR account. He gets one day off for every six days out. So he usually drives 24 days (and takes resets during that time). And then he takes four days at home. Generally, they are very good at getting him home on time, though there were a couple times that it did not work out perfectly. But hey, that’s trucking. Lol!

Just a nugget for you on those trucks is that the power steering clamps will start leaking after hundred thousand miles. Also the front bumper will crack around the bracket mine fell off at 200 something thousand due to the vibration of the motor

Comfy mattress is very important! Thanks for that tip! Crete supplies our mattresses and we add a layer of memory foam on top. Makes the bed a real refuge and comfy place to relax.

Yup…we are still going. 😆 Hope you get accepted. We are very happy here. It’s still trucking, so of course nothing’s perfect. But things are good and lucrative. Be sure to work with your asset manager to make sure loads are ‘productive’ with your HOS. We really appreciate you giving them SLOKEV. You can give it to the recruiter over the phone and fill it out on paperwork at orientation. Best of luck!!! Let us know how it goes!!!

It's great to see you guy again. Seeing you load up your stuff for the run made me very jealous. I can remember loading up my truck for trips and not being able take nearly as much stuff as you, as I had a cabover with a 24 inch sleeper and that was all. What ever I wanted to take had to fit in the jump seat and on the bunk. Of course when I had to sleep I had to take all of the stuff off the bunk to be able to sleep. Oh, those were the days!!🙄

We read the ingredients and try to get the purest we can.
No preservatives. No sugar. Organic if possible. Usually buy at Costco or Amazon.
If someone is vegan and doesn't like hauling meat. Can he negotiate with the asset manager not to haul certain products?

We’ve not heard of drivers requesting exceptions for loads based on religion or ethics. That’s a question for recruiting or something you might be able to work out with your asset manager (especially if you have a good relationship). But if not, we think with dry van, the chances of meat product loads are very slim. In Kevin’s two years with Crete he’s only had a couple loads that included some type of meat product (that we were aware of). Sometimes drivers don’t know the details of their loads. For example, Walmart loads of mixed goods don’t necessarily list the details of what all is included. Could just be codes and numbers on the paperwork.
Is that an inbound facing camera on the windshield
No. Outward facing camera for the lane deviation warning. And our Garmin OTR710 with dashcam. Crete does decide on an individual basis when drivers first start with them if they might temporarily put one in the cab. Depends on driving record and experience. Kevin had one for his first 60 days.

Nothing particular. You’ll do a pre-trip. If you’re not familiar with Freightliner (Kevin had been driving a KW) it’s ok to say that or ask a question if it’s different. Then you’ll do a short drive and finally park the truck back in the yard. At Lenoir City…do not turn right when leaving the terminal. When and where is your orientation?

Depends on the account. Best to speak to a recruiter. Last we knew the 21 day OTR started at 60cpm.

Happy to hear you passed everything during onboarding!!! Best of luck with the sleep study. 🤞🤞🤞Hopefully you don’t have any issues. But, if you do have sleep apnea it’s best to know. It’s really under-diagnosed but causes lots of health issues. I, Tanja, actually have it and have been using an APAP machine since 2020.

As a new OTR driver myself I love watching videos of the everyday things that a trucker must do and deal with. Plus your work ethic is thorough and solid which is inspiring as too many “truckers” nowadays are too halfass about the job and really shouldn’t be anywhere NEAR an 18 wheeler.
