- Still riding the high of a brand-new nudibranch species discovery that I stumbled across while muck diving on the Big Island. The absolute beauty doesn't look like any other previously documented nudibranch in Hawaii - it was a showstopper! The family Unidentiidae includes small, hydroid eating aeolids that have very long cerata, you'll notice both the feeding/association of with the orange-pink hydroid (Corydendrium cf. parasiticum) as well as the extra-long cerata swaying in the water in this video. This is the only species in the genus Unidentia that has been document in Hawaii to date. The scientific name is Unidentia sp. #1.
This species was also in association with rare Teneliia species #16 nudibranchs.
Much appreciation and gratitude to the sea slug expert, Cory Pittman, who provided the ID and confirmation. The record and documentation can be seen here:

Congratulations on an amazing find
Thank you!
That's amazing Pam!! ❤❤❤
Thanks, Yv! Hope you’re doing well & still blowing bubbles!
@@shoredivingalongthekonacoa6450 all is well, but unfortunately no bubbles for me for another year. Having a forced break due to some immune issues, which hopefully will calm down by taking a long break from scuba diving. Am focused on going back to blowing bubbles around next year autumn!
