It's interesting that they have copper based "blue blood". Makes you wonder whether the so called "blue blooded aristocracy" are really shape shifters 😉
I once read that an Octopus escaped it's own tank and was found in the shrimp tank (its favorite food). So the keeper decided to "punish" it by giving it an little electric shock. And then put it back in its own tank. Then they set up a camera to watch it, and it would escape, feed, and then go back in its own tank by morning! They are very smart creatures.
I love how Octopods always look so suspicious of everything. With the way their pupils are so narrow, they just constantly seem to being going "Yeah? And what are *you* up to, ya sketchy bastard??"

I used to eat octopus and I love it. But when I found out just how intelligent they are and so unique. I have never eaten them again. I absolutely love them now.💞
Octopuses are so special, they evolved on a completely seperate line. Our closest ancestors lived more 600 million years ago, when life was in a simple multicell form. Yes you're looking at an alien, where nature invented itself again. Intelligence in a different form
@@lb52person69 I mean that this octopus was created and didn't evolve. Like fish grew feathers and became birds. There is no fossil evidence in the world that supports evolution and there are millions of fossils that have been found. No fossil has ever shown any sign of becoming something else. eg a fish growing wings and suchlike.
Is anyone else here because of Joe Rogan? This is some amazing footage by the way. I can tell they do not like us. They always look grumpy when found or followed. Telling their buddies "Dude I changed like 4 times, and this thing just kept following me."
These things are the most alien creatures on this planet. Like holy crap are they ever cool. They have superhero powers, two of them, and people barely mention them unless they’re on a menu.
Not only can an octopus change colour instantly like that, I also learned recently they can edit their genes, effectively re writing their DNA/RNA to adapt to their environment. Unbelievably cool.
Wow! Did not know this! We will have some of our RNAs re-written with covid shots soon too, not sure if this will give us ability to change skin colors!
Revisiting this INCREDIBLE footage, I must apologise for critiquing the music when everything else is so wonderful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing this incredible video.
thank you... I spent other 30 hours underwater and 10 days of diving to film those clips... I think what I've seen down there is worse to share to other people who wants to learn about life underwater... music... yeah... using some UA-cam music and free modified demos, while learning how to make it... some projects takes years and lots of practice to complete.
I always wonder what the octopus are thinking when a human swims down and shines a flashlight on them in the middle of their disguise lmao. "Bro wtf are you doin rn fr" 3:06
They are, but their camouflaging ability goes far beyond what chameleons can do. I believe all the best camouflagers are in their family. The ones capable of creating complex patterns in under 1 second.
Apparently an octopus escaped from its tank in one of those big indoor aquarium facilities, then TOTALLY escaped the facility itself by ripping a drain cover out of the floor and crawling down the drain like fucking Andy Dufresne in Shawshank, which emptied directly into the nearby ocean...I think this happened in New Zealand like 15 years ago.
as much as I love seeing how incredible the color and texture changes are, I hate that they have to be chased, poked at and spotlighted to get it to happen. I'm conflicted.
If you conflcted watch spear fishing channels. Divers I dive with are not allowed to touch anything on the reef, simply because it' s a rule to protect the environment and it could be deadly.
@@beyondthewatersurface Thank you. Yeah I'd rather not watch spear fishing! And of course they are killed without compunction or understanding, you're right.
Jay Charles LOL An elephant is exactly what I was thinking he looked like too. I know he had something else that he thought he looked like but other than an elephant I couldn’t figure it out.
Beyond The Water Surface You took this footage? You did an excellent job. Great video. I had to laugh at the beginning because I thought you were following a normal sized octopus and when it was trying to hide behind the leaf I just assumed it was a giant leaf or something. Then you moved the leaf with your finger and I realized that the octopus was a tiny little guy. I love octopuses so much. Where were you when you filmed these guys? Or places, plural? Thanks for posting this. I’m going to subscribe in case you have more great videos or videos to come.
They can just camouflage in matter of a second, their camouflage reaction is superb, they can not only replicate colours but also the texture or irregularities of the surface they use to hide, their tentacles are said to be able to act like their brain, their body is super slimy and flexible that there is no hard body part except for their beak, it can squeeze through or fit into any tiny space unless it's smaller than their eye cavity size, all these abilities makes the octopus almost invisible to its predators. It's just joyful to watch.
To be honest I've always wanted to see all 15 transitions this beautiful creature could do but I've mostly seen people only place in the Lionfish, Sea Snake, and Flatfish I'm glad I got to see some other transitions here though! Thank you!
The last one is rapt! SO curious! Almost absent-mindedly walking along. But the entire time, watching the diver. So curious, just couldnt seem to take his eyes off of the diver!

@@beyondthewatersurface No, it's just simply had you played the game I mention you would understand. It's an espionage masterpiece, Solid Snake the main character... His suit is specially developed to masterfully/effortlessly blend into backgrounds, which surround him. When in this suit, the user needs but simply remain still while in contact with any background of colour or texture, and the suit completely mimics both the colour and that texture, making him almost impossible to detect as he fades into his surroundings. You may be reading this and be thinking... "Okay, but what the fuck has that got to do with my octopus video!!?" Well... The inspiration for this incredible sneaking suit is completely inspired by the octopus, the idea was conceived because of this wonderful creature, the masters of camouflage.😊 You're welcome.
yeah but its not a friend. your assigning human characteristics to something that isnt human, or even a pet. if you dont wanna eat it fair enough, and if you had one as a pet i would think it weird to eat it. but the ones you get in a restaurant shouldn't be emotionally linked to u in any way.
Octopuses are solitary in nature. Some do get more curious than others and will interact with divers and those who keep them at aquariums. For the most part, though, the octopus likes living alone and will interact only for breeding purposes.
It's the fact that they understand and can add texture to their skin that stands out most to me
Yeah i m still confused that those spikes are real or just the imitation.
Their suckers are extremely sensible and almost have brains of their own, maybe they somehow map out the texture so they can reproduce it but I'm no expert

Me: I'm bored.
My brain: Let's go see some octopuses changing colour
Me: oh yh. That'll be fun
I love how Octopods always look so suspicious of everything. With the way their pupils are so narrow, they just constantly seem to being going "Yeah? And what are *you* up to, ya sketchy bastard??"
Amazing! The octopus even managed to change colour of the ground around him from blueish to reddish. That's power!
+Winston Churchill once they see you are not dengerous, they are fun to watch... and, yes, they can blend to any surface around, not just underneath like cuttlefish.
Beyond The Water Surface
Yes but these octopi even changed the colour of the ground, not only of themselves.
really? where did you see that?
Beyond The Water Surface Right in the thumbnail and the beginning of the video.
You realise he's shining a light on them right? The light is changing the colour of the ground.
Imagine having that much brain power and control, to be able to touch something and turn into it... as a human.
good idea! any lizard people replies? :)
Its not brain power that lets them do that. It's magic.
Octopus are like water wizards!! They glide and then stand.

As a scuba diver, I can assure you that some octopuses are absolutely impossible to spot (at least not without a lot of experience).
Agreed. When they are not moving, we can't spot them.
The music is fine, why are people complaining
Chameleon: I can change color.
Octopus: Hold my ink.
These creatures are magical.
