  • The CSIS Project on Prosperity and Development is hosting the eighth Global Development Forum in Washington D.C. on April 18, 2024. This forum will focus broadly on economic growth, decarbonization, and pressing challenges and opportunities for development.
Africa is a continent experiencing massive transformation, with booming youth populations, fast-paced digital innovation, and abundant natural resources connected to global demand, including critical minerals. The continent's population of 1.3 billion is projected to grow to 2.4 billion by 2050, and it is already home to over 570 million internet users. These factors and many others position trade and investment across Africa as a massive opportunity for global markets. China has capitalized by becoming Africa's largest two-way trading partner, dwarfing U.S.-Africa trade by a factor of four, and by providing twice the level of U.S. foreign direct investment. This panel will explore the potential key elements of the next chapter of U.S. trade and investment in Africa.
