I have a "Septic Tank Riser." This is a neck on top of your lid, with another lid on top of it. The top lid is then at ground level. You can mow over it and you'll never have to dig dirt to reach your septic lid. And, if you suspect a problem, you can do an inspection with little effort, not like digging up your yard to try to find your lid.
Yes, we need risers!
3-5 years for a clean out is what is recommended. Depending on how you use it you could make it over 10 years without a cleanout.
They recommended an annual cleaning of the outlet screen to the distro manifold but it's been 18 months with fairly light use. I need to put risers over the tank lids! Thanks for watching.
Love the excavator dirt work, and grading of the ground. I love the many projects you have all the time! Liked, Viewed, Shared, Subscribed!
Thank you very much! We have an endless list of things to do!
Here in Delaware, the septic people recommend pumping out at least every 3 years . The septic contractor should have packed around the tank as they were back filling. Using the narrow 18" bucket .Just like you were doing in the video.
I think your septic is working fine. Get your grass seed at Brickyard Feed and Seed in Chipley. They have the best seed prices I have found in the area. My wife and I did what you guys are doing and moved into the country, clearing our 10 acres, and building my dream home on the property. You will be surprised at how fast time goes when you are doing all the little things required to maintain your property. Retirement is great and I highly recommend it....🤣🤣🤣
We can't believe 6 years have gone by on this property. We use Harris in Vernon for most of our farm stuff.
My 2 cents. It basically a brand new tank. Only two people are residing there full time. Path of least resistance. Right down the center drain. Something to watch but I'd gardner that tank isn't even operating at 50% capacity.
That makes sense!
"The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank" By Erma Bombeck 😏
#truth
I would say that your septic is working properly. I would install a riser on the septic tank cover to bring it flush to the surface .
yes, definitely need to do that!
If every year you put 1 lb of yeast in your septic tank (flush thru toilet or down a drain) you could go forever with no pump out. Some take a lb or two of hamburger and put it outside to totally rot then flush it the bacteria in the spoiled burger helps keep the tank working hard and no clean out.
rotten hamburger....interesting!
I feel your pain.
I have a 1000 ft trench cut by a power company and it has not settled in after a year. I have been over it and over with the tractor it but it is a mix of sand stone layers and clay and hard to grade back to 'normal' . Some parts are OK and other in the sand stone regions are still a deep trench.
We've trenched so much that I'm constantly moving dirt to the depressions and smoothing it and planting grass! Thanks for watching.
I'd show the plumber the video if he has suspicions.
I believe you’re correct in your assumption, the goodies are closer to the grass.
My experience with septic tanks is it’s green around the tank not along the drain field.
Maybe all the discharge is going to that specific line that’s green.
If you fill in lifts followed with being watered down between lifts, it will help compact the soil.
I feel better having dug it up and check the manifold with a level though!
Dirt always settles if you water it down for abouts 1 hour it will do it faster
Great content this morning!
Have a great time‘til we see you(and Miss Piney Grove)again, Brad
Thanks for watching!
dealing with dirt work like that is alway a chore! breaking ground is the worst!
That clay can get so hard when it's dry!
Great Vid, your concerns are valid, good on you.
40 years of onsite sewage disposal. Your center lateral is getting all the water thus you see the drainfield striping above the center even though the right lateral is lower the effluent is running straight into the center infiltrator not able to make the tee left or right. The correct way to gain equal distribution is to add a d-box after the outlet of the septic tank but before the infiltrators. The d-box is to be water leveled and three 4" PVC pipes from said d-box then feed each infiltrator lines individually and equally, so the pipes will have to be changed to effect this change. Basically if it is done this way all lines will get equal disrtibution. Solution get them back to fix it. Not a huge deal but is a quality control item that can affect your system in time by larger biomat formation on the center lateral, leaving the other laterals unused. The idea is to hit the entire drainfield with equal lesser flows to promote longevity and minimize biomat formation of the trench bottom.
Yeah, I didn't know anything about septics when they installed.....getting lots of comments about a D-box. Here's the installation video: ua-cam.com/video/cKGRqR4KI0Y/v-deo.html
Slope isn’t this man. That’s translocation, put some null value dirt on top of it as a leveling agent. Do not drop sand, as it just loads everything with silica (a secondary nutrient, but still super important) it also is kinda a shitty substrate for turf to establish roots.
It's Florida...we mostly have sand!
To me it looks like the greenest grass is directly out of the septic tank over the center leech line. This may be because that leech line is a straight line out of the tank and the liquids will flow the way of least restriction. For the liquids to flow into the other 2 lines the liquid would have to make 2 ninety degree turns. I believe your septic is fine and with only 2 people in the house and sandy Florida ground the one leech line is taking the bulk of the liquid at this time.
Asking around, nobody uses D-boxes here!
Very enlightening. TU
This is our first septic tank so it's all new to us!
@2:05 Do you not have a Distribution Box for this system? I don't see a Distribution Box from your main septic tank...this would provide for an even distribution of wastewater into your leach field. From the video you can see the 4-way connector doesn't easily provide for an open even split to the left of right, therefore, the fluid coming out of the main tank pipe is going to go straight ahead due to forward moving fluid via gravity. A Distribution box would allow for an even distribution of fluid from the manifold to each of the 3 drain fields. Eventually, due to clogging, paper build-up, roots, or waste backup, this 4-way to will backup. 90 degree angles are not ideal for fluid/waste because they can easily clog or have blockage. I'm also surprised there is no clean-out directly above the 4-way...a Distribution Box would have a clean-out and allow for easy maintenance. Please consider this when you build the main home here shortly. I'd also would have this retrofitted to install a Distribution Box on this existing system. Just my two-cents.
No distro box....just a manifold. Something for us to keep in mind for our upcoming home build!
This the best advice I've seen here . . . distribution box should be an integral part of the septic system installation . . . maybe check with system installer and find out why it was not installed . . .
Tank pumping intervals vary greatly. The system will let you know when a pump-out is needed. My own experience was 10-15 years with a gravity system here in N. Fl. I have always gone by the adage "if you're good to your septic system, it'll be good to you." Our practice was that we didn't have a garbage disposal in the kitchen, always made sure to not put any greasy liquid or food particles down the drain, and tried to limit the bacteria-killing chemicals used in cleaning. Your septic contractor can best advise you regarding system maintenance and cautions. Parker Septic in Bay County would be my go-to source for all things septic.
We don't have a garbage disposal in this house and we miss it!
Extra green drain field. Don't use toilet paper in your toilet. I use rid x once a month to help keep the tank clean
Don't use toilet paper????
@@PineyGroveHomestead because it settles in the and more frequent cleaning. I've been on septic tank for years that's what the pumping told me
