Missouri and illinois was never a football rivalry but it's a pretty good basketball rivalry. The missouri kansas rivalry stems back to incidents in the civil war between union and confederate sympathizing groups, and literally involved people dying. They don’t need to join the SEC, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia all play out of conference on rivalry week. LSU would just have to give up an east game early in the year to make it happen.

Being a Mizzou fan this is good news Mizzou has games scheduled against Kansas and Illionis coming up in years ahead. I only wish playing Kansas could have become an annual early season mathup in football. Mizzou played Kansas many years and are basically 50/50. I think that 1960 Mizzou team was the closest they ever came to being number one and remember they even won their bowl game that year. Mizzou was given a forfeit win but the voting for the national champion knew Mizzou lost. The SEC is trying to make Arkansas a rivalry but maybe it will take another 30 years to play each other first.

BYU vs Hawaii was BIG…. At least in Hawaii. The island of Oahu has a large Mormon population in the island’s north shore & BYU is THE Mormon school. As such, BYU & Hawaii (former WAC rivals) battled both on the field and on the recruiting trail. Hawaii may not have been BYU’s biggest rival, but they have played spoiler to them on occasion. In 1990, Hawaii upset #4 BYU which was led by Ty Detmer (who had just won the Heisman Trophy) 59-28. In 2001, #9 BYU came to Honolulu with an undefeated 12-0 record claiming that they should be National Championship contenders. They proceeded to lose to unranked Hawaii (8-3) 72-45 - all but ending any BCS talk. Washington State vs Idaho is another interesting one. This rivalry existed due to the proximity of the 2 colleges and the fact that they were both in the same conference (Pacific Coast Conference) at one point. The PCC was the predecessor to the Pac-8/Pac-10/Pac-12/Pac-2. After the PCC folded, Wazzu was invited to join the fledgling “Big 6” conference in 1962 which became the PAC-8 in 1964 when Oregon & OSU joined. Wazzu remains in the conference to this day. Meanwhile Idaho spent time in numerous conferences such as the Big Sky (as a founding member), the Big West, the WAC, & the Sun Belt conferences. They would voluntarily drop to the FCS level in 2018.
Not that its a big deal, but as a Southern Miss fan, Southern Miss and Tulane had a rivalry from 1979-2010 that was for a spell kind of a big deal. The rivalry was our and Tulane’s brand of “Battle of the Bell”. The rivalry does have future matchups but isn’t as intense as it once was. Meanwhile, unless you want to count a way out of date Memphis “rivalry” or the sad excuse of a rivalry we “have” with LA Tech, Southern Miss has no major rival today, kinda disappointing :(
Cal vs UCLA. "The Bear Bowl" according to some fans of both teams. What was one of the longest active uninterrupted series' prior to UCLA leaving for the Big 10 and Cal leaving for the ACC. Stolen fight song (UCLA "stole" Cal's "Big C" fight song and renamed it "Sons of Westwood around 1959 and a Cal alumnus and later UCLA Associate Band Director made the arrangement of the song). Basically the same colors (all schools in the University of California system which both these schools are in have school colors of blue and gold or any variation of blue and gold) If I had to take a guess, Cal and UCLA are each other's 2nd biggest rivals (after Cal/Stanford and UCLA/USC). Everybody looks at the history of bad blood between Cal and Stanford and the same with UCLA/USC so because of that, people probably don't look at Cal/UCLA as a big rivalry. UCLA/Fresno had a small rivalry. Biggest school in the University of California school system vs one of the biggest in the California State University system (and both schools have the biggest football tradition within their school system as USC is not part of the U of Cal system). I don't UCLA really cared either way for Fresno, but Fresno probably looks at UCLA as the "biggest brother" and would want to beat them badly whenever they met. That said, I think both these schools would probably agree that they have 3-4 schools that they would list as their top rivals before they list the other school
