The contemporary changes have ruined what could have been an amazing experiance. There is nothing inside this build that sets it apart from any newly built modern hotel.

We have 30,000 Castles in Ireland, and what these two young men have done I will say is awesome! ☘☘☘☘☘☘☘Erin go Bragh. Vive la France and to all EU. I wish you Francis and Benoit all the best in your future!
Absolutely correct people have no clue how much of an undertaking this project was not to mention the cost and now it will generate income and revenue for the community in many ways good on them I for one will stay there 🇬🇧👍
buying a ruined castle is dirty cheap, renovating it is dirty expensive. And the thing is most castles are protected by law so if you buy them you cant demolish them, only renovate. In Ireland is the same situation?
The transformation is just remarkable considering what Francis and Benoit had to begin with. A lot of hard, hard work. The interior is modern and I see a lot of negative comments but remember many laws govern construction of public restaurants and hotels. It may not have been possible to retain some historical features and still meet building codes. If all the UA-cam videos are viewed, it is documented that quite a few historical features were saved at great effort like the Knights Templar stone from the Chapel and outside fountains. Great job and good work for everyone who worked on this project.
There's nothing in building codes anywhere that tells you you can't have white bed linen and chic stylish interior design. It looks like an IKEA store inserted into a fine classic castle. The restaurant layout, LED lighting and character are really quite dismal.
@mistersniffer6838 This former castle was falling apart and would probably have collapsed within a few years if these young men had not embarked on this crazy project. There was nothing historical to save apart from a few stones. So they had every right to go the way they did. They saved the building that probably no one else would have bothered to do, it was about to collapse. And it must be said that this is an incredibly successful project. There are lots of buildings like this but in better condition that people are renovating across France where it's easier to keep to the original. So congratulations on an excellent result Francis and Benoit...
@@sigurlaugoddnybjornsdottir9905 - I think you missed the point!? What WAS exciting in the beginning was they were saving a castle, expectedly to be a........ready for it.....CASTLE!! All due respect for saving the house - I'll give You 100% credit for that. However, I would have done many things differently. In my opinion, after the renovation, the house-and especially the interiors-were too clean and clinical; all of the building's history is gone. Old details haven’t been preserved or honored enough. A building like that needs old objects, furniture, and details inside it. The rooms were just like in any new hotel-as if they had been furnished with IKEA furniture. Why?
It’s questionable how many details they could have saved given what shape the building was in. But agreed. The whole selling point of the property is it’s a castle! It would have been nice if they had decor that reminded the guests of that once they were inside.
Not sure I'd go that far. I can't imagine a credible travel based company rating it 4 stars. It is quite likely that there simply were no funds to do it 4-star justice. I have undertaken a virtual teardown and rebuild of a house, with considerable design changes, both floorplan and styling. I felt for them as they undertook the task. And wondered how in the world they could finance it all, recalling my journey. I was done in by the housing crash in the U.S., like being on the beach exposed fully when a tsunami strikes. I can't imagine how they managed such a monstrous financial committment, even with 'angel' investors. Also, I was surprised that they didn't leave more rustic surfaces exposed on the interior. People expect some measure of authenticity when they book a 'supposed' original chateau.
They have their own UA-cam channel (chateau du theil) that I've been following for a couple of years now. It's in French but they have good subtitles and it was fascinating to watch the detail and how much effort they put into it. It turned out absolutely lovely.
I enjoyed watching the incredible rebirth of this chateau early on and always hoped they could realize their dream. Kudos to these two young men who dared to take on such a huge endeavor.
beautiful work, it's a shame they didn't leave the mansion in its original condition inside, instead of the concrete floors, the original wood could have been used, and I personally think that the plasterboard, tiles and floating floor don't belong in such a beautiful place, everything could have been replaced with wood and stone like it used to be, a beautiful castle from the outside and a new hotel from the inside made of modern materials, it doesn't fit together, but otherwise it's a beautiful job
This is the second or third time this channel picked up a project I have been watching over the years. These guys are awesome, and I hope they make good money on this project.
The arch would not have been done like that. The stone blocks should be angled wider at one end. So they slot neatly together. Those are just oblong blocks with a lot of ugly cement filly the huge gapes left at the top.
Exactly, the amount of mortar between the stones shouldnt have needed to be more than say 1/2" thick, 1/4" even had they been cut at the correct angles.
What made me laugh, the commentator said they removed the roof tiles carefully. Then further on in the video, they were throwing them off the roof. That was careful 😂. Fantastic job, hats off to you both👍👍
I dont know, i saw a lot more than 2 people working on the castle. So saying 2 friends with no training in the field dit it is definitly missleading and wrong.
This is the second or third time this channel picked up a project I have been watching over the years. I would not consider this as staying in a castle.
This is amazing. I would've love to have been a part of this restoration. WOW! I was bummed when the video ended. I had the opportunity to restore many old homes. One was built in 1911, which had apartment's upstairs and grocery store downstairs. Restored three units and turned the grocery store into a car garage/shop for the owner, who restores and races the British MG cars. My dream is to renovate an old home for myself one day. This is inspiring! Thank you for sharing.

I think that people are very critical and should just stop. These two young men took on a very monumental task and have done a fantastic job. I for one commend their efforts and I wish them continued success and much happiness. Stay focused on the tasks at hand and pay no mind to the naysayers. I like the narration…it’s different, but what’s wrong with that. Blessings to you both and thanks for taking those of us who appreciate your efforts along on this very interesting journey. Yes but they completely destroyed all histotic value in this building It would have been better off being left in ruin. If I ever get to france I'll be looking for historic sites to visit. If i want a Disneyland experiance i'll go to california.
What an amazing build, kudos to Francis and Benoit for their perseverence thru all the obstacles they endured, when I come to France I'm sure will book a stay there, congrats....Javi G.
Unfortunately, there is not much left of the energy of a castle. Of course, in terms of craftsmanship, this is a great and commendable achievement. But sometimes less is more.
They were not preserving the castle rather making it modern and liveable and they succeeded in the task, if it was about preserving the castle the approach and budget would’ve been different

Lovely. Except for the 1950s-60s style chairs in the dining room. A maybe Templar, maybe 1200s castle with 20th century finishings, however chic, would make me feel I was in a time warp. And if you wonder if those really are 50s style chairs, you didn’t live through the 50s-60s.
Gran restauración, que locura, excelente trabajo. 5 años que bien valieron la pena. 😊🎉.
I’ve seen this video with lots of respect. Amazing how you renovated this huge project. Craftmanship guys! Hope the hotel will be fully booked all the time❤🎉
What a genious idea-from outside it looks old and from inside it looks exactly like any other cheap motel with generic cheap motel walls and furniture. To ruin something this old should be a war crime. They could have demolish everything and build a new hotel for much cheaper.
I never expected this to be 0:04 such an ambitious project! Kudos to Francis and Benoit for their perseverance and successful completion of a truly stunning masterpiece.
Skill, determination, persistence, and good vision all came together to produce this pioneering project. I congratulate the two friends on the resounding success of their project.
@@loooooooooool58 The idea itself is the special thing. Transforming a dilapidated historical castle into a luxurious tourist center will remain for a long time. This is the achievement. As for the building itself, as you mentioned, money provide (almost ) everything.

Looking at the state of the the castle in the beginning, it is amazing what they were able to do. They preserved the exterior look of the castle. While updating the inside so it's not as cold and damp. It doesn't look as good but you would be more warm and cozy then if it was stone walls. Now if this was a structural sound castle to begin with I would be saying different things. Probably all had to do with the investors they aquired to. Still looks great and they saved it regardless. Cheers🎉
I guess the owner of this house loves classic values. The owner had to spend a lot of money to make the house the most perfect. And prolong its life to the maximum. The construction team is also great, I saw them exchanging techniques. Perhaps with a house that is very old, it requires people with good technical expertise in renovation. And finally, a perfect house, many people wish to own that house. Thank you to those who filmed that magical journey, the video is great.
I would try to save some of that stuff like the shingles and what not. Any wood you can sand and stain and preserve. A wood craftier could do lots of things with that stuff.
I really like this type construction house's videos this give me motivation to do good work for everyone i really appreciate this channel which have no racism and showd love to every nation just support knowledge or unique things...😊

What made me laugh, the commentator said they removed the roof tiles carefully. Then further on in the video, they were throwing them off the roof. That was careful 😂. Fantastic job, hats off to you both👍👍
They rescued a bit of history. Then made it modern with a lot of chrome.
I dont know, i saw a lot more than 2 people working on the castle. So saying 2 friends with no training in the field dit it is definitly missleading and wrong.
Unbelievable commitment and workmanship 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is the second or third time this channel picked up a project I have been watching over the years.
I would not consider this as staying in a castle.
This is amazing. I would've love to have been a part of this restoration. WOW! I was bummed when the video ended. I had the opportunity to restore many old homes. One was built in 1911, which had apartment's upstairs and grocery store downstairs. Restored three units and turned the grocery store into a car garage/shop for the owner, who restores and races the British MG cars. My dream is to renovate an old home for myself one day. This is inspiring! Thank you for sharing.
Too much clash between modern and stonework. The restaurant should have matched the castle.
why dont you go repair your own chateau and show them the proper way to do it.
@davidanalyst671 you have no sense of historical preservation and must love Trump's bordello sense of design
@@davidanalyst671 As soon as i find a small loan of 4 milion dollars and a castle for sale i will !
@@GeraldMiller-mp8fc
It’s lovely. What a huge accomplishment for those guys. Awesome to see history restored. They look like they have been doing it for years
Respekt.
It’s a beautiful restoration job on the exterior, but the rooms have no old castle charm. Sad to go so modern on such a historical building.
From California👌🥰🙏
Yes but they completely destroyed all histotic value in this building It would have been better off being left in ruin. If I ever get to france I'll be looking for historic sites to visit. If i want a Disneyland experiance i'll go to california.
@@markseehawer3762 Bien de votre avis!
@@markseehawer3762dont visit the hotel then...

Bravo 👍💪💪
My wife and I watched them build it all on their UA-cam channel. We admire them and would love to stay there.
I’ve seen this video with lots of respect. Amazing how you renovated this huge project. Craftmanship guys! Hope the hotel will be fully booked all the time❤🎉
❤..
My honour and deep respect to all those made this success...
So glad to see the finished look...
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊 quedó precioso!
Such a lot of work, I wish the owners good luck in their business venture.
Lol
@@loooooooooool58 Believe me, money alone does not create distinctive achievements, and the video answers the financing method.
@@loooooooooool58 The idea itself is the special thing. Transforming a dilapidated historical castle into a luxurious tourist center will remain for a long time. This is the achievement. As for the building itself, as you mentioned, money provide (almost ) everything.
Great work and guys. All the best Francis and Benoit 🎉🎉🎉👏👏. . Love from Hyderabad, India❤❤
Great Job! Only critique is I thought the rooms would be more .. castely
I followed this project and this channel did not even acknowledge all of the outdoor space that they worked on they have done a lot more work than just this castle.
Messieurs Chapeaux bas !!!!! Là nous voyons La France !!!! BRAVO !!!! Que le meilleur pour vous !!!
Ye are amazing. Congratulations and I hope this fabulous Hotel will bring ye many blessings 🙏
Cheers🎉
Much too modern looking for my taste. None the less, I wish you much success. ✌️
They all did such a wonderful job. High risk in restoration and it turned out perfect. Great Job

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤so beautiful indeed !
Me encanta espero algun dia visitarlo😊😊😊
I would try to save some of that stuff like the shingles and what not. Any wood you can sand and stain and preserve. A wood craftier could do lots of things with that stuff.
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!!! These young men are amazing.

Yes but this isn’t really a restoration. The public funding is directed to restoring the historic buildings.
