    Mike’s such a cool guy to offer Mike his mic when Mike didn’t have a mic of his own. Now that Mike has Mike’s mic, maybe we’ll hear more of Mike when he captures Mike working - although without a mic. Good job, Mike. You too, Mike.

    Just a FYI on the ceiling. Bleach does not kill mold. You need to spray it with an antimicrobial cleaner. If you paint it, you should also use a antimicrobial paint to protect it and than paint over that.

    With 20 years in the heat and air trade I would have left the registers in the sidewall blowing toward the windows now that the door is walled off. Now the air won’t reach the windows to help cool off the bedroom. That area will be warmer than the rest of the room due to the air being blown down and then being sucked backwards away from the windows.

    Can't wait for the entertainment wall to emerge, as that's my forte, I just got done with helping a producer friend of mine re-vamp his system into their new home with kind of a similar design using his huge Magne planar tri-panel Tympani 1-D's and some custom-built 12 in. subs that we built into and ported through the bottom cabinetry section so as to be invisible, which turned out nice.

  • @rich603
    @rich603 7 місяців тому

    Matt, I painted high-end homes like this for many years. I would be wary of painting that ceiling for two reasons, 1. the wood will expand and contract over time and the caulk will separate and look bad, and 2. all those knots are going to bleed through the paint eventually leaving brown spots all over the ceiling. If a client insisted I paint a ceiling like this, I wouldn't caulk it at all, and I would seal all the knots before priming and painting. The only product I've found that actually stops knots from bleeding through, believe it or not, is titebond wood glue spread on thin with a paint brush -- it's a ton of labor though, especially on a ceiling of that size and height.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  7 місяців тому

      We've had good success with priming and caulking. I'll capture it when David does it, but we had this same issue at my Woodgate house and were able to solve it.

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 6 місяців тому

      Did you ever use Zinsser BIN primer on the knots? It is shellac based and I have used it on dark wood ceilings and to seal the entire inside of a large house that had smoke damage. We thinned it and cleaned out the airless with alcohol. It is nasty stuff but works.

    • @rich603
      @rich603 6 місяців тому +1

      @@CGT80 Yeah, I've used a lot and it does stink. In my experience, BIN didn't do a very good job on knots and a lot would end up bleeding through the paint eventually. Wood glue is the only solution I've found that blocks knots 100% of the time.
