Hi I am Josh Freeman with Kooker Tech and today were getting technical. Today I am going over our new lower shock bracket.
    Into
If you are looking to modify your suspension there are a few options out there already such as Rod Hall, GT Cepek and extreme hummer performance to name a few. But what I am covering today is the bracket for the guys who want to make their own modifications the DIY’ers out there.
Currently you have to work around the factory mounts if you’re trying to keep your shock in the factory location.
What I have in front of me is a HMMWV a-arm upside down to get a better visual. The issue with the factory lower mount has it has a 1” hole, it’s made of cast iron, and the height may not be correct for what you are trying to do. This makes it difficult to make an aftermarket shock work around this. For these reasons I wanted to make my own bracket to provide a better start point for guys wanting to customize their own suspension. This bracket gives a better flat surface to weld, it’s made of ½” A36 hot rolled pickled and oiled sheet steel, 1 ¾” wide, and the bolt holes have been reduced from the factory 11/16” down to 41/64” to allow a tighter fight around the mounting bolts, cold bent to create it shape and laser cut for actuate shape and fitment. I went with ½” plate because the factory ranges between 3/8” at the thinnest to 5/8” at the thickest. ½” is the in between of these and mine is ½” all the way through which should be plenty strong. The bracket fits in the factory lower shock bracket location with no modifications needed. The only issue I have found with fitment is you may have to grind some of slag from the welds around the outer mounting bolts like I did here.
Here would be an example of a shock mount being added. This still has to be tested and I will be using it on my upcoming suspension modifications.
