What makes the MixFX Engine effects different from say the Waves SSL console is that the MixFX actually REPLACE the default audio engine of Studio One, whereas inserts only sit on top of the audio engine of Studio One. This means that the MixFX actually effect the audio at the audio engine level, before the audio actually hits the mixer channels. insert plugins cannot do this. So the mix FX plugin behave much more like the actual console they are emulating.
This is truly a genius feature of Studio One and it can make a big sound difference if applied correctly. Could not live without it!
Excellent demonstration of Mix Engine FX. Studio One just keeps getting better and better :)
Great video (as always)!
What I find a bit irritating, is that Mix FX is not applied to tracks or buses that are receiving a sidechain signal. To me this seems like a bug in Studio One.
I also noted that Mix FX is not applied to FX channels. That is probably by design, and is the first real difference between an FX channel and a bus that I have seen.
This is one of the reasons I fell in love with studio one. Now add ons only under susbcription..what. pitty
You can still get Presonus' MixFX from at least a couple third-party vendors; for example CTC-1 is available at B&H. I couldn't find the Retro Mix pack anywhere though. Presonus *currently* say that their webstore will come back at some point though, and at least strongly imply that their add-ons won't remain subscription-only. I really hope that's true for the MxFX line at least, because that entire Studio One feature is close to useless if all you can have is Console Shaper and maybe Softube's Tape.
subscription vs going to a full studio is a no brainer.. especially for the passionate
The Mix Engine fx in S1 are absolutely brilliant, and so is yoir explamation (the only thing missing is a comparison with the controls at realistic, usable levels using the only default one abailable to all, Console Shaper).
👍🏻👍🏻
The Presonus/Fender "subscribers only" push idiocy... not so brilliant at all.
subscribing to a passion doesnt seem very complicated
I count among those who only recently found out about this feature. I bought the CTC-1 upgrade and use the classic setting with an emulation of a Neve 80 series console from Lindell (which also has a feature for using different processing algorithms on each individual track). When combined further with Kiive Tape Face, it's the closest I can get to a dirty old analog sound "in the box." Works great for the kind of late 60s sound I'm going for.
lol, ive been using s1 for 2 years and didn't know about this, well done, cheers geeza !!
My pleasure :)
@@studioonerevealedcan I add the Waves NLS on the mixfx?
@@ELLIOT8209nope
Nice video! Would love to see a demo of you using this. Keep up the good work.
Ufff! Really complex, but definitely useful. Thanks, Mike!!! 😃🎵🎶
Awesome tip! Thanks so much
Hi Mike, your channels are great and help me a lot. Can you perhaps go into more detail about AUX buses? Thanks a lot.
Thanks! I did not know that.
they have dropped the ball with Mix FX not doing more variety and third party collabs. same with the Fat Channel add ons need expanding.
Excellent!!!
Bedankt
Great video Mike. This has been the best kept secret of Studio One for years.
Essentially, all DAWs mix engines add numbers the same way, perfectly.
This adds the "Imperfections" of the Analog mixers they're emulating, both under the hood, but with very useful control over the behavior.
(Pro Tools H.E.A.T. was the closest thing and used to be a $500 add on that used a ton of DSP)
I'd love to see you do a follow up where you demonstrate the Differences between all the models.
And go through all the Gainstaging implications.
I'd also add that, for me, starting with rock solid Static Mix, getting the balance locked in, Before auditioning the MixFX is critical.
You'll then have to re-balance everything, but with a solid balance before you can get a sense of the overall Vibe of the mix through each of the models. Then you start Mixing.
Awesome! Hey Mike will the SSD5,the free version (vst2) work on Studio One?....the console shaper "crosstalk" would really be awesome for SSD5
Do we need to be connected to the internet to use Studio One+ Hybrid?

Wow I could totally hear the difference of the Brit on my laptop speakers. Sounded more open.
I was impressed as well by the Brit Console.
@@JanEkbom cause u have great taste.
@@mentalprogram5256 thank you.
Most usable for subscription only users..what a shame. You should rename the perpetual pro version into studio one standard or something like this. If I buy a pro edition software marketed and priced as the top tier version of the DAW I expect it to have all the good stuff in it. Making those plugins and also the new instrument and stuff subscription only, you guys force me into the subscription model if I want it. As someone who already paid and bought his first perpetual Pro 6.5 license 4 weeks ago and learning two weeks later about the new hybrid version and stuff, I am very unhappy about it. Don’t name something pro when you don’t treat it like other daw‘s treat their pro customers…
I’ve been having these mix fx since they came out.. I’m not on subscription. But since this update I’ve moved back to reaper.
👍
How did you get that third party mix fx plugin in the list?
AFAIK The 3rd party plugin has to support the Studio One Mix Bus. The only one I know is Softube's Tape. And I think that's the one Mike has on his list.
@@mikehagen7385 thanks
@@mikehagen7385 thanks - just went to the softube website and you're absolutely correct!
@@mikehagen7385 That's correct. If you Own Softube Tape, then you have this for free as well. It is also different than the regular plugin as it has 'Multitrack' capabilities that work with the MixFX
heyy yall, been using for about 10 days but noticed today it ruined my voicemeeter Asio driver. Im on win 11, and cant get it back up and running. Any htouguhts?
👍👍👍
The video title: "...you ned to know this"? Is there a guy named Ned? 😉
I ned to know this?
Oh, boy, Studio One! You’ve brought back the despised 1960s crosstalk. And, we even can get massive amounts of hiss. Why stop there? Maybe make my computer fail at random times, like track electronics might have. Or, you could make the sound dramatically different for no apparent reason, leaving us to do a detailed troubleshooting and re-alignment of the ‘machine’ instead of finishing the session. Should’ve done this April 1st. Hiss and crosstalk. What an industry leading feature! Just make our music suck, why don’t you. Worst idea of all time.
Subscription + features now?? NO WAY Switching back to Cubase
I prefer to avoid mix engines, and record straight to hardware, avoid digital summing completely.
Why?
