Mike. Thank you for demystifying the interactions between gain, ceiling and threshold. I have been using limiter, but was always unsure what was going on under the hood (bonnet). I truly appreciate how you EXPLAIN YOUR STRATEGY, when it comes to applying effects, and your gentle but thorough, teaching demeanor. P.S. I did indeed find this very sexy...but that's just me. : )
Another helpful video, thank you! I've actually never, or very rarely, used it on my master bus but I do use a combination of this and plugin alliance bx limiter on individual tracks/buses.
@@studioonerevealed yeah, I just prefer Oxford limiter, sonible’s limiter, or ozone’s maximizer on master bus-just one of my many weird quirks I guess lol.
I wish you could go a bit more in depth with the metering settings and the difference between soft clip, true peak and both of them turned off and actually hear the difference. Perhaps you could make a dedicated video in the future 😊 Thanks for this video anyway. Cheers
I didn't hear anything about the relationship to LUFS levels if you are going to use the Limiter on the Master Bus for increasing loudness/volume for demo's, for instance. I also use Studio One. SO I usually use a -18 LUFS for the Song Page and -14 LUFS for the Project Page. It's also been said that IF you use a Limiter on the Song Page, to Remove it before you move the song over into the Project Page, which is ONE of the main reasons I use Studio One. In your Envelope section, you mention "documentation"? TO me, S-1 doesn't even have User Manuals for its plugins, like Waves does, although I've been weaning myself away from Waves, as I agree with Barry Johns, their Update plan is actually an Extortion Plan, and they FIBBED about their plugins having a "perpetual license", so their definition of that phrase is contrary to MOST people's opinion. MIKE, I like your teaching method, as you don't seem to be in a hurry to get to your next meal! ha ha
Hi Mike my name is Quentin from the UK, I'm subscribed to your channel as I find it very useful as a beginner. Hoping you can help out as I'm not sure if my interface is going to be recognised by studio 6, I'm a studio one + subscription. I have an ESI M8U midi interface with an audio interface for 3 items which I have 2 arranger workstations and my native instruments S61 midi controller keyboard plugged in to those 3 device USB sockets on the ESI. All this gets pushed back out to my pc via usb 3.2 host plug. That's my rig, again I'm so worried that S1 won't recognise the ESI, what do I do then. I'm ready to switch on Mike, so could please help me. Please understand I'm a beginner. Hoping all well, Kind regards Quentin.
This Limiter is confusing because of the Threshold setting. Most other brands don't have Theshold. They normally just have Gain and Ceiling. I think this puts people off using it.
Thanks, and I will cast a vote for a K metering video
Yes we need K System metering video❤
yes please!
I also vote FOR the "K" system video
Thanks, Mike. Another succinct and informative video. I'd cast a vote for a "K" system video! I've watched some but I bet I'll understand yours best.
Great explanation with your signature style sir!
Thank you kindly!
Thanks Mike. Another great video. A video on the K system would be greatly appreciated

Lol. Thank you!
As usual a very good explanation ,-) Thanks
Glad you liked it!
A lot of metering plugins show overs when the Studio One limiter is set to -1db ceiling. I usually have to set it to -1.4 or something.
Your videos are great. Thanks!
Awesome Video !! Thanks!
You're welcome!

Interesting! Thank you :)

You hooked me. Yes, K System video!

Good One Mike ! Thanks
Again, an excellent tutorial. I think Presonus should hire you as an engineer (if you'd like of course)!
