You told me about this this summer.
I just did a few over pours of existing poured urethane gym floors from the 80’s. I used drum sanders to sand that top coat down, then used an auto scrubber 3 times to clean. Hopefully we got good adhesion. I was offered screen and re-coat jobs on wood gym floors, but never tried. Good to know! Love your videos!
Thank You!!
There's a place here in Birmingham Alabama that hosts handicapped Olympic basketball. Very similar to this issue. If you have the time, you could pull up the entire floor. Some of the chunks would be 1x1 foot. Some would go 10 feet. No one knew why. Long story short.. I go to this gym maybe 6 months after to add a few logos where some kind of sponsorship had changed and... The nice lady there that cleans up was using WD-40 to remove wheel chair skids. Several cannisters a week.
Nice detective work!! 😀
Can’t really blame the cleaning lady for thinking outside the box…… but that certainly could explain some adhesion issues!!!
Great story!!! Thank-You!
I had one with small areas delaminating. Turns out the caretaker was using WD40 to remove chewing gum. Spray it on and leave it to work under the gum.
I was going to say it probably wasn't screened before the final coat,it's all about scratch pattern and you want something for the urethane to have something to grab on to,it was probably slick as glass underneath that's why you had to abrade with 80
Big money right there
Do you not buff the lines
What would the recommendation be for a floor that has encountered peeling? I'd like to eliminate the subtle areas that would "show" where peeling occurred when covered. Faint lines beneath the applied coat. Recs?
Hey Pat, as mentioned in this video….. the solution is sanding the floor down to bare wood & re painting the game lines.
However, for a short term temporary repair, you can cut out the worst of the peeling spots. We try to cut along board seams or game lines to make it less noticeable. Good Luck!!
@Wyoming Wood Floors Thank you. You guys are fantastic. If I were in Wyoming you'd already have my resume!
Hi Paul. What is SSP pads?
An SPP pads is a surface preparation pad, or often referred to as a Maroon Pad.
They lightly abrade the floor in preparation for wax or finish.
