same introduction to this game was subscribed to a pc mag back in the mid 90's and got this game as a demo fell in love with this game ever since... 43 years old and i still love this game more than most newer games today.... along with fallout 1 and 2

also, for people that didn't catch the streams of this a while back, this pack is great and this series should be a blast.
Have not been keeping track of the OpenXcom modding scene unfortunately, i'll have to give this a shot though. Always love mods that make these games more challenging as well as adding new content.

It's a bit odd to say one prefers TFTD over UFO since they are more or less the same game with a different coat of paint. That said, I also always preferedd TFTD. There are not enough games set under water dammit!

I just tried this mod. KICKED MY ASS. I thought I was doing well, doing the 'alien activity' sites. Then I got my first landed SMALL USO...christ, Aquatoids are absolutely grenade happy! Never took a single shot at me, just every turn, grenades, grenades everywhere! Didn't survive 3 freaking turns!

OpenXCOM Extended, correct? This is different than just OpenXCOM. Also, seems silly, but be sure to enable it from the "Base Game" dropdown menu in Mods from the main menu.

The ending to xcom2 (2020) sort of hinted at TFTD sequel. But it never materialized. Loved the lovecraftian and mild steampunk elements of this game.

Personally I find making 'ideal' bases makes attacks pretty boring.
Boring is good when you get a base defence before your alien containment is built and your best weapon is laser rifles (which you have three of).
Boring turns an absolute rout into a tense drag-out fight where your last survivor who was one of the starting eight then survives the entire game, the only starting member to do so.

Because TFTD is set in an alternate future where the events of UFO caused political upheaval.
Its the future. Presumably they gained independence at some point during xcom 1.
I dont get it this is a newer game by the same studio but the graphics look worse than UFO, is this like the dos version
This game was released 12 months after the unexpected success off Xcom Enemy Unknown. It is basically a reskin made by a new team hired to do it, while the main team behind UFO1 went on to make xcom apocalypse. I was mildly disappointed at TFTD being a reskin, but the atmosphere kept me playing.
