Anyone else feel really bad for Imohotep when Anck-su-namun just abandons him at the end? Everything he did was for her and she just runs off and leaves him to die. I think she's the true villain of the movie.
Actually makes you feel for him. Sure, they killed the Pharoah, but he didn't ask to be under an impossible curse, didn't ask to be resurrected either time, and he basically restored her. Twisted love, but at least he had it in him to follow through.

Despite the drop in quality of the second and third movies in this trilogy, Tom Cruise will never be able to outdo Brendan Fraser. He had such good charisma in these movies.
The one thing I loved about this movie was when Rick and Ardeth are casually chatting guns as they're loading up from the trunk of the car for the shootout "You want the shotgun?" "No, I prefer the Thompson". Two badasses picking out the tools of their trade like you pick out your shirt for the day. lol.
Aiight, I normally don’t want to be “that guy” because I know what to expect when I come to this channel, but there’s actually a cool story here. If you remember, the dude from whom Imhotep stole his eyes actually had super bad eyesight (remember the scene where he’s frantically feeling around on the ground to try and find his glasses). The actual canonical explanation for why Imhotep thought that Evey was Anaksunamun is that the eyes he stole could barely see clearly, and so he couldn’t tell that she wasn’t the right person.
I have not watched the Tom Cruise one, but I generally liked the Dragon Emperor. Certainly not fit for the mummy series, and it was full of bullshit, but it was enjoyable at least :p Like I said, I think the Tom Cruise one sucks simply because it will ruin my memory of the good mummy movies

i love how rick stabs the king and for like 10 seconds they're both motionless then the mummy runs up and makes a super dramatic pose and is like "NOOOOOO"
EarlOfMaladyCrescent Or the bracelet gave the kid the ability to understand him. I mean it protects him from being killed while he wears it for some reason and gives him the ability to pull out 3D projections of all the future points of the journey...is language translation where we draw the line?
+Angela Nova Alex could read it so it's possible he naturally understood. Could also be the bracelet tho but yeah it's clear Imhotep was still speaking Ancient Egyptian, the switch was only to indicate he could understand. I don't think it protected him from being killed tho, only that they wouldn't kill him until they found Ahm Shir.
I always took it as since they both spoke the language they just had them "speak" in English for everyone else to understand. But the bracelet thing makes sense, too. lol
I'd remove three sins for three specific moments in the movie. 1) When Rick says, "You, big trouble; you, lighten up; you, get in the car," because it's very funny. 2) The part where Lak-Nah tries to stab Alex's hand and he's complimenting his aim beore Lak-Nah says, "What are you talking about? I missed." That line was golden, and Alex's face was priceless. 3) When Alex needed to figure out the last symbol, he did the exact same motion Johnathan did in the last movie, which was both funny and a good callback to the last movie.
CORALINE PARMENTIER, pianiste But... Rick says Alex spends more time in the museum then he does at home, so since the old man is the curator it's kinda obvious he knows him. SIN BUSTED
CORALINE PARMENTIER, pianiste I wish there was a sin counter for every douche that makes a comment quoting the video they're watching. we know what your watching..... we're watching to too!
Woohoo! I wanted The Mummy Returns, and I got The Mummy Returns! The movie may not make a lot of sense, but I loved it! Except for the owl killing. Oded Fehr ("Ardeth") is such a hottie, especially when these movies were made! Thank you, CinemaSins!
javierreyes405 *Kurse, aka Malekith's second in command. If none of you remember who the hell we're talking about, then it's further proof that he needs to find better movies.
Sin 32: It was explained in the movie that Evy was the keeper of the bracelet in her past life, Rick was a Medjai who's supposed to protect Evy, and their son Alex is the one who guides them to Ahm Shere, they're the 3 sides of a pyramid. That's why the box automatically opened when Alex approached it, he is the guide. Sin 38: it was also explained in the movie that the 2nd movie took place in the year of Scorpion which was prophesized to be the year the world would end. And Evy started to have those dreams at the beginning of the Scorpion year. Yeah I'm a nerd I know, but you've also got yourself 2 sins Cinemasins.
The box didn't open. The bracelet opened inside the box. We see at the beginning of the movie when Evie and Rick find the bracelet that it's closed. When Alex uses the key to open the box though, the bracelet is open inside, open so that it can close around his wrist.
Fun fact: The 2017 version was originally going to be an actual continuation of this franchise, with the O'Connell's in Latin America and Antonio Banderas as an Aztec mummy (also the villain of course).
the mummy thinks eve is his girlfriend because in the first movie he stole the eyes of the guy with glasses... so, he also had problems with his vision is just that a scene was cut off that kind of explained that. Your welcome.
he never thought of Eve as his girlfriend, he wanted to use her to resurrect Anck-su-namun, the eyes of the american scholar have nothing to do with it.
16:42 I can't breathe! Omg, I can't stop laughing!! Why is this scene so funny to me? The way the Rick is just hovering over the pit and the Scorpion King is just staring at him is pretty silly, but the way Imhotep just runs in strikes that pose and yells, "Niy" is so fucking beautiful. And then the Scorpion King slowly looks up at him. I am literally in tears right now.
Hey, it made back triple its budget at the Box Office. Which is crazy, I've never even heard of it... and with the Scorpion King, that's FOUR fucking films in this franchise, it blows my mind it was popular enough to have more films than most franchises, considering the shoddy quality of the films. I guess people ate that shit right up in the 90s/early00s. No wonder they're making a reboot.
CinemaSins comment section: "Pls do this movie!!!!" *when they actually make a vid for that movie* "Noooo!!!! Why did you sin this movie! I love this movie!!!!!!"
I wish you'd have taken a sin off for the scene where the henchman stabs the knife between the kids fingers and when the kid is surprised at his amazing aim, he says "I missed!". So funny every time!
Is it so wrong that movies I've always enjoyed I've been so blind to the errors right in front of me that it takes a video from CinemaSins to open my eyes?
You do know that the movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" came out at basically the same timeframe right? Compare the two levels of CGI and tell me again how this is "fine". The first time i saw the movie even then i commented how bad the CGI was for the scorpion king himself.
8:24 In the first movie, he was blinded and his tongue cut out. At the end of the first movie, he died with the eyes and tongue he stole. So it makes sense that those items still " remain" (quotation fingers) for his resurrection in this movie.
Are we going to ignore the fact that the bad guys hand gets eaten to the bone and it still stays attatched like all the skin parts are still there. Sorry movie, bones don't work like that. Add one Sin
I just watched nostalgia critic's review of this movie and I'll never be able to take the "Niy" scene seriously again. The way he runs in, bows on one knee, and gestures with both arms, he looks like he's in a musical.
I remember watching a sort of behind the scenes thing of The Mummy Returns and I remember when Rachel said they had to use Japanese Martial Arts cuz they didn't really know what Egyptian Martial Arts were like or how it was done.
I think CS tends to stay away from video game movies, I think they generate less interest because the fanbase almost always calls the movie bad before they even see it, so making a video about said movies is less fulfilling than actual movies. Also, probably a tight schedule now that it's summer, with all these blockbusters coming out he's probably got his hands full trying to get relevant videos to the predecessors all out during this time.
I guess, but they did just do Assassin's Creed. Probably. I just commented because a sin video for that movie is something I'd like to see. It's fine if they don't.
Well, I did say 'tends to' because there are times they did video game movies. However, AFAIK Prince of Persia has a way smaller following than stuff like Assassin's Creed or Mortal Kombat so it's inherently less "wurf" to do a video on it. I could be wrong, maybe he's sitting there in his chair malevolently drumming his fingers together Mr. Burns-style and eyeing his copy as it sits in the case. "Soon- soon you will be sinned!"
10:27 Imhotep thought Evie was Anck-Su-Namun because he stoles eyes from the guy with bad vision. So he knew Evie was a reincarnation of someone he knew, he just assumed Anck-Su-Namun.. why? i have no clue
To be fair, in the first movie Imhotep stole his new eyes from a guy who is legally blind without his glasses. So when he first saw Evie, not only were they in a dark tomb, but he was partially blind. Don't at me, I just really love this movie and if we're being honest it's still better than the 2017 thing.
16:45 - i know its a running gag to sin "No"s (or Niy's, i guess) but i want to point out that run-up that Imhotep does...the way he gestures towards Rick and Scorp, reminds me of Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls...Jim Carrey does the exact same 'run up and "No!"' bit when his slinky stops one step short on that giant staircase...
The reason Alex knows the curator of the British Museum after he sees the photograph is because Alex spends most of his time at British Museum than he does at home, as said by Rick himself immediately after. Can't beleive everyone else missed that part.
at around 10:50 the point of that scene was supposedly that the woman who was Anck su Namun's reincarnation really did kill herself, ejecting her own soul from her body for Anck su Namun's to enter it. Because this movie doesn't understand that cultures that believe in reincarnation believe in the soul being reborn, and thereby there is no reincarnation if the soul is trapped within the underworld.
I am waiting for a video on Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. I am expecting "Wait, how could she read Old Chinese when the Chinese general cannot?" "Thanks movie for letting me know that Mandarin 3000 years ago sounds exactly the same as Mandarin today. I wonder why the Chinese general needs a translation."
The reason Imhotep is immortal when he reawakens is because the curse placed on him in the first movie is still in effect,it stated that if he was ever awoken he'd have all the powers he had and be immortal, his powers were stripped at the end of the film but and because he was resurrected again the curse was reset along with his powers
*a million loud, rapid claps* THESE ARE YOU ADDING IN 'MY SONG' AT THE END!!! The rest of the video was fun but THIS MADE ME SO HAPPY!!! I've got a lot of awesome memories attached to this song and I've always loved this movie and I'M SO HAPPY THANK YOU!!!

some of these sins actually have a reason behind them if he actually watched the movie and paid attention but i know this is for comedy sake
slifer7777 Oh, that makes sense. Nevermind then
i love how rick stabs the king and for like 10 seconds they're both motionless then the mummy runs up and makes a super dramatic pose and is like "NOOOOOO"
"KNNEEEEEEE!"
"NNIIIIIIIIYYYYYY-"
8:23 ALSO, when Imhotep is resurrected here, suddenly he can speak English! Ding!
and German (nein)
And he learns to speak it fluently with Darth Vader filter , and with no Egyptian accent, but a hint of British 9:05, Ding!
"It's never a good sign when your 8 year old son grabs a picture of an older man you've never met and says "Hey I know him"! "
Hahahaha
CORALINE PARMENTIER, pianiste lol!!
Ben Walsh It's only pointing out what someone found funniest in a video. It's not like she's restating everything. Is it really that bad?
haha! That was the best
Sins aside, this movie and the first one are still one of the best Mummy movies ever made.
Compare that to the China one or the new one...
I can't place this accent... oh I know.. SESAME STREET!😅😭😂😂😂😂 I love cinemasins
Estizza Babawande lol I laughed instantly when I heard that
"Anubis was quite adept at CGI. Or not. Depends on if you look at this as 5000 years ago or in 2001" hahahahha
Woohoo! I wanted The Mummy Returns, and I got The Mummy Returns! The movie may not make a lot of sense, but I loved it! Except for the owl killing. Oded Fehr ("Ardeth") is such a hottie, especially when these movies were made! Thank you, CinemaSins!
Oh yeah, the BIT older teens & moms were there for Ardeth Bey (no doubt)!
Sassy Devil It was a falcon, not an owl. But it definitely hits my feelings too every time.
You're fat and ugly.
Sassy Devil it was a hawk
They limited the tattoos on his face cause they knew his appearance would bring many kinds of people.
CGI scorpion Dwayne was the biggest sin of this movie.
You know the guy who played Lock-Nah was also Killer Croc in "Suicide Squad"? Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje really needs to start finding better work.
He also played Mr. Eko in Lost, didn't he?
Haven't you ever seen him in "OZ"? ...and I do mean ALLLLL of him
jbvader721 he's was also in Thor the dark wild as a dark elf/nurse.
javierreyes405 *Kurse, aka Malekith's second in command. If none of you remember who the hell we're talking about, then it's further proof that he needs to find better movies.
Meh. He's beautiful.
3:11 one sin off for not knowing the geography of London. Big Ben and the Tower Bridge are not next to each other.
Some random kid actually gets credited before The Rock...that's how far back 2001 was :)
Lol that's fucking hilarious.
Most of the times the credits are made by order of importance of the character and the kid's character was more important than The Rock's.
Still better than Tom Cruise The mummy
amen brother amen like those mummy films from 1999 and 2001 sucks than see the 2017 the mummy ah nvm this one is worse.
So true. That Mummy movie was so boring.
Not to say that's a challenge.
@@robbieredrum5953 The videogame, however, was surprisingly good.
Your welcome.
plus 5 sins for saying your welcome.
he never thought of Eve as his girlfriend, he wanted to use her to resurrect Anck-su-namun, the eyes of the american scholar have nothing to do with it.
David James +10 sins for *you're
Well it's obviously "our" welcome and not his.
If the scene was cut, it still deserves to be sinned. Producing and then cutting explanation to plot points does not equate to having it explained.
Everything wrong with The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in many many days
At least they didn't keep trying to milk Epygt past the point of plausibility.
They moved on to ancient China
Yeah, but ancient China is pretty cool.
Thebes
Evie on first date with Rick "You should probably meet our one year old son."
"Everything Wrong With The Mummy 3", it was made. Done.
^^^ yeah. Whereas the first two can get away with just being guilty pleasures for a lot of ppl the third one just straight up sucked
"This movie exists." *Ding*
2nd sin: No Rachel Wheitz. (I don't know how to write her last name) *Ding*
margareth michelina Ikr? Why make it if she can't be in it? I will never get over that.
CinemaSins comment section:
"Pls do this movie!!!!"
*when they actually make a vid for that movie*
"Noooo!!!! Why did you sin this movie! I love this movie!!!!!!"
Yes I believe the last 40 top comments were the same thing
BattleUp Saber you act like these are the same people commenting
I've been wanting them to mummy for a while and I am happy they did, why? because it means they consider them worth talking about
I was about to comment "pls do The LEGO Batman Movie" though i'm not the one who'll complain afterwards
Please do Enders Game, a goofy movie, adventures of rocky and Bullwinkle, demolition man, and Oliver and company.
LOL. I'm the same way. I've been watching these videos for movies I've seen and surprised by them. It's funny what you miss when you're young(er).
These movies had some shitty plots but tbh they're fun to watch
I like the comedy parts witht he mummy guards.
Like when the bus drove on the bridge and the mummy was like "oh shit"
my thoughts exactly
That CGI in the end looks like a PS2 game.
Well considering the movie came out when the PS2 was the latest console. That's not surprising.
this movie was made in 2000 you dumb fuck, it looks fine.
Yeah but The Lord of the Rings came out the same year too.
The1Andrew No it does not. It was ridiculed when it came out. I know, I remember this film releasing.
You do know that the movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" came out at basically the same timeframe right? Compare the two levels of CGI and tell me again how this is "fine". The first time i saw the movie even then i commented how bad the CGI was for the scorpion king himself.
I love the way Imhotep runs into frame to dramatically scream “Niiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!”
Anubis went for the "Quantity over Quality" rule when he was thinking of building a supernatural army.
Like China's products
8:24 In the first movie, he was blinded and his tongue cut out. At the end of the first movie, he died with the eyes and tongue he stole. So it makes sense that those items still " remain" (quotation fingers) for his resurrection in this movie.
Are we going to ignore the fact that the bad guys hand gets eaten to the bone and it still stays attatched like all the skin parts are still there. Sorry movie, bones don't work like that. Add one Sin
Koki Lynn *ding*
It worked that way with my assistant...for the few heartbeats it took to die of severe blood loss.
I just watched nostalgia critic's review of this movie and I'll never be able to take the "Niy" scene seriously again. The way he runs in, bows on one knee, and gestures with both arms, he looks like he's in a musical.
The CGI was not accepted in 2001, I saw this in the theaters and was left with a giant WTF.
Windows 2000
CGI not accepted
He is to dangerous To be left alive
Activate the Assasinator
@@sumreensultana1860 Hahahahahahahahaha
I remember watching a sort of behind the scenes thing of The Mummy Returns and I remember when Rachel said they had to use Japanese Martial Arts cuz they didn't really know what Egyptian Martial Arts were like or how it was done.
Well, the "Egyptian Guide To Kicking Ass" probably is in a place that hasn't been excavated yet.
@@LadyOnikara yeah
Rofl, that Mortal Kombat part was fucking perfect!
If someone redubbed the whole series with Mortal Kombat music I would be fight dancing quicker than Robin Shou
Jo Biggle I looked over at the screen to hear and see that bit. and was omg and started laughing so hard
I lost it at "craaaaaab people...craaaaaab people"
would have been even better if he began the scene with imhotep hitting the gong at 14:37
8:33 "vanrubuhl" I was 7 the first time I saw this movie. 13 years later & that word with that accent still cracks me up
I feel like the CGI alone was worth 150 sins or so. You've been very charitable here.
"Niy".
Just by coincidence I read this comment at the exact same time he shouted it in the video and now I'm dying xD
Can you guys sin the movie 'Prince of Persia: Sands of time'?
I think CS tends to stay away from video game movies, I think they generate less interest because the fanbase almost always calls the movie bad before they even see it, so making a video about said movies is less fulfilling than actual movies.
Also, probably a tight schedule now that it's summer, with all these blockbusters coming out he's probably got his hands full trying to get relevant videos to the predecessors all out during this time.
I guess, but they did just do Assassin's Creed.
Probably. I just commented because a sin video for that movie is something I'd like to see. It's fine if they don't.
Underrated af
+Friendlysociopath But , they (Just recently ) did sin " Assassin's Creed (2016) " . So , not entirely .
"Soon- soon you will be sinned!"
why did Imhotep do the run-then-kneel thing just to shout "Niy!"?
Because he lost the army!
@@nancyomalley6441 Or bad direction
Wanted to make Scorpion think He was loyal
Everything Wrong With The Truman Show
Shelf Strider Duuuuuuude this would be so fucking awesome
Shelf Strider
Idk how to feel about this
Nathaniel Mauro same.
No thing
10:27 Imhotep thought Evie was Anck-Su-Namun because he stoles eyes from the guy with bad vision. So he knew Evie was a reincarnation of someone he knew, he just assumed Anck-Su-Namun.. why? i have no clue
6:45 I live in Arkansas and that freaked me the hell out
And I work next to a cemetery
Same
Live in arkansas to and i just chuckled
Jared Miller I live in Arkansas....but I didn't get the joke
Professor Smoove Me neither, no build up or reason, and that's why it freaked me out so much
To be fair, in the first movie Imhotep stole his new eyes from a guy who is legally blind without his glasses. So when he first saw Evie, not only were they in a dark tomb, but he was partially blind.
Don't at me, I just really love this movie and if we're being honest it's still better than the 2017 thing.
Still a better Indiana Jones movie then Crystal Skull
than*
Juan Inchauspe why is that mistake so common .. smh
Eddy Storms They're both equal in shittiness.
Jim B. AMEN!
Galahandhi exactly
Let's see how many sins the terrible cgi scopion king gets
It only gets one sin. It should have gotten at least 50 sins.
Agreed, that was some of the worst CGI ever in a major Hollywood movie.
I remember everyone in the theatre laughing when he appeared 😆
it didn't look bad back then but it looks bad now for sure.
No, trust me, CGI scorpion The Rock looked terrible back then too. Like, prerendered PS1 cutscene level graphics.
"You have the high ground and they have no cover."
_Obi Wan shakes his head in dissapointment_
16:45 - i know its a running gag to sin "No"s (or Niy's, i guess) but i want to point out that run-up that Imhotep does...the way he gestures towards Rick and Scorp, reminds me of Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls...Jim Carrey does the exact same 'run up and "No!"' bit when his slinky stops one step short on that giant staircase...
Rachel Weisz is so hot in this movie...
But come on she is more hot in the first movie with that dress she wears in the ending.
And in any other movie.
Oh yeah. I'd devour Rachel Weisz
5:36 Jonathan would be very good at CinemaSins
Everything wrong with the Scorpion King?
The reason Alex knows the curator of the British Museum after he sees the photograph is because Alex spends most of his time at British Museum than he does at home, as said by Rick himself immediately after. Can't beleive everyone else missed that part.
love the lion king reference at the end of the video. XD
at around 10:50 the point of that scene was supposedly that the woman who was Anck su Namun's reincarnation really did kill herself, ejecting her own soul from her body for Anck su Namun's to enter it.
Because this movie doesn't understand that cultures that believe in reincarnation believe in the soul being reborn, and thereby there is no reincarnation if the soul is trapped within the underworld.
I am waiting for a video on Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. I am expecting
"Wait, how could she read Old Chinese when the Chinese general cannot?"
"Thanks movie for letting me know that Mandarin 3000 years ago sounds exactly the same as Mandarin today. I wonder why the Chinese general needs a translation."
Ratipol Opasjaroenkij Tomb of Dragon Emperor is ALL SINS
I’m still waiting dammit
She had been shown to be an egyptologist, & never showing an interest in any other ancient civilization. How could she read it?
The reason Imhotep is immortal when he reawakens is because the curse placed on him in the first movie is still in effect,it stated that if he was ever awoken he'd have all the powers he had and be immortal, his powers were stripped at the end of the film but and because he was resurrected again the curse was reset along with his powers
No matter how many sins, these movies were awesome! I miss Brendan Fraser :(
Once again: a gentle reminder that 'Twilight and 'A Fault in Our Stars' both received half the sins this movie did.
Cyborg Gunslinger thank you for enlightening me of this fact. I shall now find the creator of this channel and bitchslap him for doing so
Cyborg Gunslinger they where more forgiving with sins once
Cyborg Gunslinger in the words of Cinemasins:
"The sin counts have no real quality because if they did, we feel they'd lose their real quality."
Cyborg Gunslinger The fact that you're insinuating that 'A Fault in Our Stars' belongs in the same category as 'Twilight' bothers me immensely.
Snow0282 Be bothered, then. They're both trash movies, and you're a trash-person for thinking otherwise.
"Is he from......... Sesame Street?"
I DIED
16:43 can we address how fucking hilarious his movement is as he runs to drop to his knees to scream "NIIIIIIIY!"
I sure hope there is at least 500 sins for the Rock CGI at the end

Yh and if I remember right, it was pretty good fun for the child me back then anyway!
I was kind of hoping they'd sin Rick catching a flying knife with his bare hands.
